Pulled apart the bowl to look at the impeller and clean out the rocks. Might polish the bowl while it is apart.

I have actually found a used one that comes with a wear ring, and will still be talking to Tom at JPB this afternoon. I might also have a lead on a guy who might be able to repair it, as long as I find all of the pieces. I'll be tearing it down today...

Finished all of the wiring, found rocks, gravel, and impeller bits in my bowl. Need to find a new impeller now.

Looking for an A, A2, or A3 impeller now tho. I guess now would be a good time to upgrade to a better impeller if I can find one. I haven't had the boat in the water yet, lol.

Being an E pump, super easy to pull the bowl to see how bad it is. It could be pieces of the bowl, too.
Pea sized gravel will usually pass thru. Do you have a rock grate or a loader?

Dan'l

I have a rock grate, and when I say gravel, I mean big rocks. Here is a pic to show you what I pulled out, so far.

Jet Pumps / Gravel in my bowl

I finally get my engine tuned up only to find out there is a bunch of gravel hidden in my impeller. Now, not only have I had to fish out rocks and pebbles out of my diverter, but I also found pieces of impeller. Can it be repaired, or does anyone have an aluminium impeller they are willing to part with cheap and send to canada?

It is a 12JE Berkeley with an A impeller.

Changed the oil, installed a remote oil filter kit to make oil changes easier.

Welcome, I'm fairly new hear too. This group has been an awesome wealth of knowledge for me, and I have learned so much since joining. I am still getting ready for the water, but soon. Getting very excited. Lol.

I think my boats last owner cheated and/or quick fixed mine. It has grease nipples on it now.

I am in the same "boat" as you. This is my first jet, and I got the boat for a song, and had to tear it almost completely apart. It's definitely a learning experience, but I wouldn't change it for the world. Lol. I'm out in Saskatchewan.

Got the custom built alternator installed, started the oil filter relocation system, but received the wrong parts. New, right parts on the way.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 1978 Ford 460 oil dipstick length???
« on: April 11, 2016, 12:10:11 PM »
Sorry this took so long, been on the road with work. I measured the dipstick length at 18 and a quarter inches from the top of the cap to the tip of the dipstick.

Welcome Sidewinder, I'm new here too. I just picked up a 1979 Cougar last year, and have had to redo all of the wiring scratch. Most of it isn't much different than plain old car wiring, but I have been using marine grade wire, connections, and heat shrink tubing. I actually used wiring diagrams for the engine bay of a 1978 Ford truck to help me figure out how to wire my engine(460 Ford), if that helps at all.

Got my brackets painted for the details, changed the boot on the steering arm, started prepping for the remote oil filter installation, and will start the plumbing changes for my water feed.
