Projects / LS install Crusader tunnel
« on: August 29, 2011, 10:32:28 PM »
well after going back and forth on what to do, I decided to go for it. I have wanted to do an LS for years now. My brother has a LM7 that has been sitting for months just calling my name. After going back and forth we decided to try some different combos and just have some fun.  A fellow board member came through and gave me a mock up block to design some motor plates and I have been hard at it. This weekend we pulled the BBC and prepped the boat. The boat already has a nice fuel system(carb setup), so we decided to use as much as we already have. The plan was to go EFI single turbo, but the budget started to get a little out of hand. In keeping it simple we decided to go with an E85 blow thru setup and see what it'll do. I have plenty of experience with efi systems and tuning, but have always wanted to see what all the blow thru fuss is about. I am hoping to have the engine in the boat within the next few days, and get all the details sorted before the carb shows up in a couple weeks. I am still missing some parts small parts so if anyone has a line on some stuff(starter/flexplate/alternator) I would appreciate the help. So here we go...

BBC out

Getting all the dims, its was a pia, had to be creative...

meet up with Sandeggo(Kevin) today(at a gun store), super cool guy. I have the LS mock up block, BBC is ready to come out in the morning. I was hoping to have it out by this evening, but forgot about a Dr. appt.(cortizone shot in my toe), so it didn't happen. Gonna head down to the shop in the morning and pull it out with a forklift. I'll get all the measurements from the front of the block and start on the front motorplate. I will be reusing the rear plate if possible. Suggestions are welcome...

Just got off the phone, looks like I'll be picking up the block on Friday afternoon. Big props sandeggo, it was great talking to him on the phone. I am stoked...

I just want look, I am too broke for more toys right now. I am going to make a fully machined front, rear, and the pto. The available kits are waterjet and apparently unavailable. Can you call me or give me your number? I am motivated...Lance 619-554-7108...

I think my brother talked to you, was your boat for sale?  Do you still have your boat? I would love to take a look at it. I tried to buy a kit from a vendor and got some back and forth, so I'll just make my own kit. My cnc mill isn't busy right now so the sooner the better...

I need a hopefully bare block and timing cover. I want to throw it in the mill and grab all the holes and draw up a mounting plate. Any help would be appreciated...Lance 619-554-7108

I thought 1400 hundred was optimistic too, but it has dyno sheets. I have most of the efi stuff laying around, as well as lots of the tools to make most of the parts I don't have. I have a few ECU's (megasquirt V2 3.57, Pectel, and a some others), I have an LM-1, and a couple LC-1's. I am not sure what I am gonna do for an intake manifold, I might just run the blower lower with a chiller and fab the rest. The heads are Brodix aluminum, I'd have to look at the build sheet, but I was told they were over $8500 by the time they made it on the engine. I'll machine up as many of the parts I can, design some, send them out to be cut(waterjet/plasma), and then weld em up. I like to make cool parts...

the blower is cool, don't get me wrong. I like the flexibility of modern electronics and turbos. I can adjust the tune way easier, a little more fuel here, a little less timing here, more/less boost, ramp the boost till the pump is hooking, etc. I can run whatever fuel I want with some simple changes, race gas, pump gas, E10-E100, methanol, etc. We have done some really cool stuff with my brothers sandcar, E85 and a bone stock JDM 2.0, 450WHP.  I fired the boat up this morning, I forget how violent it is, my neighbors just love it(not)...

Thinking about running a boat on Sunday. How anal are they with exhaust battles? The boat is pretty loud. What time do I need to be there?

the engine makes 1400-1450 now, I can get at least another 200 out of it at the same boost with some technology, and turbos. I not after all out power, I'd like a milder cam, less noise, more efficiency, and better all around manners with the same amount of power :screwy:...most of the turbos I use on small displacement engine are huge...this project will get at least 80mm twins, or 106mm+ single....

I have been lurking around this site for awhile, and enjoy looking at what other people are doing with projects. I have done a bit of high hp turbo import engines(drag cars, sand cars, etc.) I have been doing more and more big inch turbo stuff, and have had an ex drag boat(jet) fall into my lap. It has a 500+ blown bbc, with lots of supporting hardware. I am thinking of ditching the supercharger and carbs, in favor of an EFI, intercooled, big turbo setup. I keep going back and forth and just want some feedback...

I have had the suction cup to well over a hundred on outside windows of drag cars. They vibrate quite a bit on boats, for that I like my helmet mount, your head is a nice stabilizer...
