This has been my experience . In this part of the boat , resin and fiberglass are layed up very thick and if at some point someone decided to clean up the bilge or just didnt know whats goin on . They might have just poured a ton of resin over this area . Resin by itself is very brittle and there you have it . Fiberglass and electrical are two things I dont do . At all.

Thanks Beerjet.

It looks like pure resin as you can see. so i can either poor more on or just leave it alone.

Should i bust it out? and then glass it.

Shit i need a beer to much thinking going on here ;D

Well i just started to clean out my 454 project boat 1970 Holmes. I found some damage and just wondering can i just fill it in with resin and glass over top of it or should i just scrap this project all together?

It looks like some one has done some glass work on it all ready.  I am begining to wonder if it is even going to be worth it to get it fixed up again, Im really having my doubts.

It also has a fiberglass gas tank :o and needs new guages, motor rebuilt, pump rebuilt, and both cables, so far ;D

Starting to get bummed out, how about some advice Huh.

When or how do you know when to change it. I pulled the pump and it spins freely. I am not replacing the impeller, just gaskets so far. Now i have to find where to get  a rebuild kit with just gaskets. Do they even have one like that or is it all individual?

That's going to be a real hard sell. You might try paying someone to take it off your hands. Ask Rod aka Sanford.

Yes i know its priced high but thats where you get talked down and still get what you want for it ;D

If i could get the ol'lady to wash it i would post some pics, just because.

You have some cleaning to do! WTF is up with all the hoseclamps on the cable?  Umm maybe a HUGE flathead made for a 1/2" or 3/4" breaker bar, maybe one at Napa

Ya i know its a mess. It sat for the last nine years unattended :(

The hose clamps? I dont fuggin know, It was in a wire loom and then wrapped up in duct tape. Thats not the half of it. They also drilled a hole in the transom to shove the new hi perf cable through ;D. Dont know why.

I do have the 1/2 " drive flat head socket but it just slips off.

yes it does come off. Counter clockwise. I used a piece of flat steel pounded into the slot and then I took a cresent wrench to it.

This pump has not been used for nine years and i have tried everything to get it off, Wont budge.

What about heating it up with a torch ;D HUH HUH YA

Any one got a pic of the valve you are talking about? One boat i have has no valve anywhere, the other only has valves for the headers.

« on: August 23, 2007, 08:56:11 AM »
There's no replacement for displacement, that's my .02 on which crank I would use.

It was at .99 cents last time i looked i figured if it fits i can pick it up and save some $$ its only 30 miles from me. But then again i dont want to piece together a motor, i would be right back where i started from.

Does the 425 have a shorter stroke than the 455, or are they the same?

I dont know,  Thats why im asking you guys. I found one cheap and brand new.
But im not gonna waste my $$ on chance it wont fit. Now if it gave me a shorter stroke i would have to change my rods. But then i could get more rpm's.

Hell i dont know.
