 I got a few more bags of foam out tonight.  The white lava rock section is still there and not moving.  I guess its time for the saw. I just hope that stuff doesnt go to far on that side.

Actually, Hemi heads can be made to fit 440 blocks pretty handily. The block only needs to be notched for the exhaust pushrod and a cut in half piece of tubing welded in. Seen that done years ago! Forget where, I'll look for the link! But would be a cool idea!

 Wishful thinking may be true.  But I do have a plan, kinda, for now. 

1. The Frankenstein pump is being replaced with a Berk. I have a good intake (already machined for a shoe/rideplate), a good suction housing and shaft, and the worked split bowl that I tried on the old boat. Just need to set the intake, buy a new/good S/S impeller, and a rebuild kit.  Also need to have some bottom work done for the intake (rounded keel intake, flat keel boat).
2. Seats will probably come from Lucky Stiff', unless I scrounge a super deal on some used ones.
3. I'm not letting on what I'm thinking about doing as far a glass work and the dash yet, I need to check a few things out first.
4. The motor.  This is where I'm really undecided.  I want something different. NO its not getting an OB !! Maybe a blower motor, maybe a really big bottle fed beast, maybe some Kaase "Boss 9" heads. I even saw a place that sells Hemi heads that fit a Mopar 440 block.  I really dint know yet, but I have a nice chunk of change in the motor fund for this one (from selling, the old boat, the flatbottom, my GSXR, my Mustang, and a few other things. not to mention Ive been living on Top Ramen noodles for the last 6mo to save money) and this one will have LOTS of hp.  I'm on a quest here, and done playing around.  >:D

Yea the porta water jet sure is making it easy. The hardest part is putting the mess in the trash bags.  ;D  I do need to go look for an extension for it though, Its starting to get to far up under there to reach, and I really don't want to crawl under the bow with it (noisy and wet, yuck).

 Did I ever mention theres LOTS of foam under this stupid bow.  :banghead:  I've taken 6 of the big hefty lawn trash bags of that stuff out of there so far, I'm about half way through it. Me and my bright ideas, but it needed to be done.  So far Ive found 1 hat, some cardboard, a couple plastic bags, and a few unidentifiable items in the foam.  Maybe they where saving on there trash bill when they built this one, must have been a Friday boat.  ::) ;D

 One strange thing I found was theres 2 different types of foam under there.  Its not a matter of wet and dry, both types are wet.  Most of the foam is a tannish color and the porta water jet cuts right through it like nothing. But, then there's an area in the pass side sponson where the foam is as white as snow and as hard as a rock. The porta water jet will not cut through it and even a shovel has a tough time with it.  It even feels different, kinda hard and grainy, like white lava rock.  :sly:  I'll get it out even if I have to resort to the sawzall.  >:D

 Leadsled, The thing is I spent over a year working on that boat because I never had plans of selling it (I even put my screen name on it).  I'm the one that put the tape stripes on it he was referring to.  And I did my best to make that boat nice.  I guess it just rubbed me the wrong way for him to post that the way he did, Implying that the stripes I put on there where there to cover up a known problem. 
When it comes down to it, all anyone has is there reputation, being an honest guy or shady.  In my quest for my perfect boat, Ive sold or gotten rid of 5 boats and lots of parts and always done my best to let the buyers know of any and all issues with what there getting.  Heck, I even cut one boat up and disposed of it because I believed it was only good for "yard art".  The last thing I want is for anyone to think I would do something like he was implying.

  I've been thinking about this all day and its been pissing me off more and more that someone would come on here and imply that I tried to cover up a "split" boat with electrical tape and knowingly sell it that way.

  I promise that the boat was NOT cracked when those stripes went on it, they where NOT there to cover up anything other then the yellow primer.  The cap job may have cracked during use when I had it, I didn't pull the stripes off it to inspect it before I sold it because I had no reason to think there was anything wrong with it.  But that boat was not "split" !! The boat was painted and capped way back in 1999/2000 when Busby owned it.  It never saw water until I finished it last year.  I had that boat in the water a total of 5 times (had motor problems almost every time) and never had it over 65mph.  I suppose there's a chance they just used bondo or that kitty hair stuff to fill the seam (I have no knowledge of how it was done). 
 Again, pulling off the red/orange/yellow stripes and doing the blue/black stripes was one of the FIRST things I did to that boat.  And I saw NO cracks at that time. 

 papaletch, I'm sorry that you are having to spend money redoing the cap job, because I heard you paid ALOT more for it then I sold it for. But I didn't cap the boat and I didn't try to cover anything up with tape !!!!  I always do my best to describe any issues with anything I sell.  That's why it took me so long to sell that boat, I told everyone that was interested in it about it's really annoying porpoising issue.

 The top and bottom where NOT split and the tape was NOT there to cover up an issue like that !!!   Busby had the boat capped when it was painted, before I bought it and he had red/orange/yellow tape stripes on it.  I didn't like the color choice.  I pulled them off and they took some of the paint off with them.  That's why it had the black/blue stripes on it.  This was all explained to the person I sold it to, maybe you should talk them if you have an issue with the boat.  

 BTW.  That hull was completely glassed together on the inside of the seam from the factory, and was very strong.  If there is currently any cracking around the seam I wound bet its only the cosmetic filler from the cap job.  I have no idea how it was done, but its not uncommon for them to crack if they just used filler to do it.

 Also, I think everyone here knows, if I saw any cracks on that boat I would have had no second thoughts about grabbing a grinder and fixing it, no matter what it took.  That boat was my baby, the ONLY reason I sold it was because I wanted a tunnel.

 I've got lots of excuses Mark,  ;)

1. No motor, still undecided on what do in this one. 
2. No pump, only have some of the big parts.
3. No seats, the ones that where in there are wayyy to heavy.
4. Way to much hull work to do, I have something kinda crazy in mind for this.

 Damn, theres LOTS of foam under this bow. 

 I fired up the pressure washer (from now on to be known as the "porta water jet").  This is the best way to remove foam !!!!!  It slices it up into little chunks like a wood chipper, no dust, no little pieces of foam flying around and sticking to everything.  Thanks again River Roy, Great idea.  :thumbup: :thumbup:

 I didnt have much time to work on it. Had to fix the fuel line on the "porta water jet", and fix the hose that the dog ate (again  >:().  But, heres the pile from tonight.



 Best guess is thats about 1/4 of whats under there.  My trash guy is going to be collecting foam for a couple months.  ::)

 Thanks John.  I just hope someday it turns out as nice as your boat.

  I cut the rest of the bulkhead out tonight.  I brought my air saw home from work and it did the job really well.
 

 I found what I though I was going to find on this side, lots of water and nasty water soaked foam.  Here you can see all the black foam.  As soon as the saw got down to the top of the tunnel, water started coming out of the cut. 
 

 You can see on the back of the wood how high the water level was.  Its no wonder the bow of this thing was sooooo heavy.
 

 Found a broken fuel line on the pressure washer, as soon as I get a chance to fix it I'll see how it does at removing foam.  >:D

Well I didnt make much progress today.  Stupid holidays  :banghead:.  I got the drivers side sponson section of the bulkhead out though.  I really wanted to get it out in one piece, to use as a pattern for the new one but that didnt happen. I cut the glass around the edge of it and wouldnt move, it was glassed on both sides.  I almost grabbed the sawzall then decided that wasnt a good idea, Id probably cut through the hull.  So I just cut it into small sections and pulled it out (the wood was rotted).  I was right, there was water up there. Most of the foam still looks OK except for the very bottom of it (wet and spongy).  A couple gallons of water drained out of there.  :thumbdown:

 I did find a present from someone at Brendella.  There was a hat stuck under the foam, had to have been "lost" durring assembly.  ::)

 

 Then as you can see it started to rain.  But the hull is completly gutted now, still havnt gotten that intake out of there (they did a realy realy good job on this one).

 The Brendella bubble deck was not a splash of a Sanger.  The Sanger is wider, has lots more room, and a different bottom.  The Brendella did (from what Ive seen) use the same (or very similar) bottom as the Hondo and Cole T decks though.

Welcome Jetboatunderground, and nice find.  Those Sangers are great looking boats.

 About my Brendella and the foam.  The reason I'm so set on removing it is because the bulkhead is broken and needs to be replaced anyway.  Plus I suspect the foam has soaked up alot of water over the years. When I picked up the boat it was sitting (outside uncovered) with the bow down.  The cracking around the bulkhead would have let water get under there to the foam.  And the Bow is really really heavy.  After time the foam can absorb water like a sponge, it turns into a nasty, smelly, heavy mess.   If nothing looks cracked around your floor or bulkhead, I would leave the foam alone for now.  It will help with floatation and adds some support.  The foam is not a bad thing as long as its still dry.

 Well the hull is gutted.  Everything is out except the intake, and its being a bitch.  I'll get it out tomorrow, someone did a really good job setting this intake, its really solid.

 I did find one thing I really didnt like, the little factory rideplate was mounted to the hull with 3 screws/bolts that (just like the throttle pedal bracket) where just threaded into the fiberglass.  :o  I dont even want to think what would have happened if it had pulled those screws out.  Two were still good and one was stripped/loose.  :screwy: :screwy:

 The old pump is a real Frankenstein thing.  Its a Jacuzzi WJ, modified to fit the American Turbine droop, with a Berkeley impeller in it.  Someone had lots of time on there hands.  :sly:

 So far, everything is on track to pull the bulkhead and foam Sunday
