I saw Dave at the hi po meet last month, I just assumed he was still in biz - I haven't talked to him much in the last 3-4 years. I've been using L&R for my machine work, and Flow control for head stuff.

As I once said " if you aren't breaking parts, you aren't trying hard enough!"

That was an 8500 RPM 440 with a big solid roller, tunnel ram and a 300 shot.

Lasted for 15 years - strangely enough broke (well fully broke) at idle not on the pass I had made just 10 minutes before. Lucked out on that one.

That's what I said. Seriously, if it popped off 20 feet earlier, there were kids playing on a playground RIGHT THERE.  I wouldn't have been able to live with myself. Someone gave me a second chance....

 :D No, that chain is the emergency brake.

2x 3/8ths chain is not strong enough aparently for a 21 foot boat - the new trailer (supposed to be done Wed)  is getting the BIG stuff.

Orange County Boat Repair in Stanton is doing the work, should be done by Wed.

100% out of pocket - the towing co in the end claimed they didn't do it. My auto insurance wouldn't cover the "cargo" to the trailer (the boat), and the watercraft insurance didn't cover it because I wasn't driving it and / or it wasn't on the water.


Yea, I posted the accident on HotDrama (er Hotboat), but now that that site seems to have gone away, I figured I'd just repost it here otherwise the new gel coat pics would be out of context.

Holes in hull - from anaheim fullerton towing company - Notice the impact site is on the OTHER side! They even admitted they did it to 5 people standing around when we unloaded it, and I have witnesses that saw it happen at the site - Oh yea - and I asked them to stop doing what they were doing before it happened...

And the cause?
The trailer latch bolt snapped off, causing the trailer to no longer be connected to my jeep.

It also snapped off both safety chains, and when it passed me, it was doing 20 MPH and narrowly avoided a schoolyard full of children before ending up in the ditch.

You get reversion in both the intake and exhaust. How much is dictated by the cam overlap.
 
In the exhaust, it is only an issue if you start sucking in water from the lake. It also helps create the sound of the engine, and earlier opening of the exhaust valve causes some of the combustion at low rpm to happen in the exhaust pipe - this is where the lopey sound comes from.

In the intake, it dilutes the fresh intake charge, and causes the mixture to be off at lower RPM's. You compensate by running the mixture richer at idle, giving the stink smell and blowing unburnt hydrocarbons out. This is why big overlap cams are not used with anything that requires a smog check. As the mixture is mostly diluted by its own runner, really a TR / single / dual  doesn't have that great of an impact on it.

The spring inside the lifter relies on oil to keep it cool. No oil = heat = potential to break.

I don't know anything about the cam (mild, 3/4 race, etc...). Anyone know how lifters are adjusted on an Olds, it's got this funny aluminum pivot thing joining every 2 rocker arms together.

If it ran out of oil at high RPM's and wiped out one lifter - do you think that that one lifter was the only one that ran out of oil? Replace them all....my $.02

Acetone is fingernail polish remover. As they seem to have gotten rid of every other chemical that works becuase .00001% cought some condition that killed them, I'm sure they would have outlawed it if it was truely nasty. Just my warped logic.
