Oh, and I'm going to try to paint my transom and bilge today...just black though. I can't hang with Ron and his killer Rogers project......That boat is over the top!

Nope, I've been busy, steering is in, gauges are in, ignition and aux bilge switches are in. Took the rails back out for a final sanding with some 400grit on my mudhog and reintstalled.
Sanded the plates with 400 then switched to 600, 1000 and then 2000 wetndry. Gonna pick up some polish today and go at them.

Just for grins I blocked a portion of the back plate with some 400grit and it really puts a nice finish on it quickly.
The bad news is my son then just grabbed some buffing compound on a rag and leaned on it for a second and it gave it a killer shine . Might have to do that someday but I think I'm gonna stick with the 400 for now.
It is starting to look like something though....

I built an adapter that allowed me to separate the AN fittings of my line coming off the pump and insert a setup that allowed me to hook a garden hose. Took seconds to hook up and I could flush for as long as I wanted. And this was with a steady diet of Salt Water (which is the norm up here)......never a problem but I was careful to make sure I didnt overpressurize the system........

Saweet!! That would be my pump brace and the last piece to this puzzle I need. Can't wait to see it too. This hopefully will be a nice showcase for what you and Tommy are able to provide folks.
I finished my trimming and then used a 3/16" carbide tipped roundover bit in the PuertoMill and it really did a nice job rounding the sharp edges. I then just buzzed it with my DA and some 220 grit for a uniform finish. I think I'll step it up to around 600 grit before I call it done though as it's a touch to rough of a finish just yet.
Motor is going back together...yahooo!!!

A little tip for ya, when cutting the aluminum with a router give the area you are cutting a little shot of wd-40, helps the aluminum from welding itself to the carbide bit and a better edge. keep the pics coming

Thanks for the compliment and Welcome to the board Ironman and I take it from your signature that you were that Waterjetter Supreme that cut em. If so, they're beautiful. You do fantastic work. As far as the WD40.....oh yah, I used a ton. I'd lay a heavy coat ontop of the plate and whether it was the air being blown around by the router or the heat generated I don't know but whatever it was, the WD40 would wick right to where I was cutting so I had a nice steady "stream" of lubricant flowing to the cutting surface. Found that out by accident but it worked nevertheless. Thanks again.........john

I was traveling on business again and feeling a bit homesick when the kids snapped some pictures and sent them to me.
Our grandson is 2 months old today (clearly follows in his gramps footsteps for dble & triple chins) and is sporting (quite nicely I might add) a Jet Boat Performance onsey that Rhonda was so kind to hook them up with.
It just don't get no better than that..............thanks again Rhonda, Josh and ol what's his name at Jet Boat Performance......you guys are good friends......john

« on: May 05, 2008, 02:54:43 PM »got me thinkn twice about giving you pointers.........if you install the blocks on the back sides of the plates, it makes future removal of the engine easier. You don't have to lift the plates over the blocks when you pull the engine thus the drive line doesn't bind and slips right out.

In all honesty, I really do appreciate the help Josh and I like your idea about the blocks. I'm thinking that this rail kit is gonna make it incredibly easy to remove and install the motor. Very cool

Yah Ralph, this thing is the shizitsh! I don't have many good ideas but this is one of my better ones.
Called Tommy and between him and that punk azz kid (Josh) in the background, I did some more fine tuning. Got it as low as I can go and still have some room between the pan on the hull and less than 2 degrees high in the nose so with that, I'm gonne drink beer and try to get some of this 3 lbs of aluminum shavings out of of everything.....crap what a mess but it's in there...
Now I gotta blow it apart and cut the extra metal off, porthole it for the fuel pump and then buzz it with my DA. I'm not going for a full polish look. A nice satin look is what I'm after........

Yep Ralph, I'm more of a measure a dozen times and cut it once but this time around I took baby steps and took a little off at a time like you suggest. I appreciate the advice and you were spot on!
Talked to Tommy (thanks cupcake and sorry to pester you on your "day off")
Leveled up the pump per Tommy and took some more measurements and fired up the "portamill" which from this day forward will always be refered to as the "PuertoMill".
It's still a touch high (maybe 1/4") but the angle of the dangle is spot on!!!!

Okay, I'm ready to begin the rail kit install. I have the two gorgeous water jetted plates & 6 pillow blocks from JBP, 8' of 1/4" 2X2 angle , 8' of 1/4" by 2" flat bar for the outside of the stringers, stainless bolts, flat washers, lock washers and Knuts....
I'll need to narrow the plates about an 1/8" on each side for them to set down between my stringers. This is only necessary cuz I'm a dumb azz and dont want the rails to be flush with the tops of the stringers as my stringers have the most gorgeous radius on top (borderline sexy) and prefer to mount the rails just below that radius....
I will also have to open up a spot on the front plate because I want to run a mechanical pump. I'll be putting a porthole for that.
PS... the extra two pillow blocks are for a pump reinforcing plate that JBP is cutting for me so the pump & motor will all be tied to the rails making one hell for stout solid unit.....ps......this is a full stringer boat

I hear crickets, this thread is so quiet... Gonna have to get busy huh... Actually, I've been fiddling but working on the motor mostly. Had the crank cut for a 1/4" key 180 out from the stock key and now have the short block back together. Just nuthing purdy to look at (yet)...
