Start with it dead straight and go from there till you get the best ride/speed only moving it in very small increments each time

X2,  Theres realy no perfect place to put them, its different on every boat and depends what you are doing with the boat that day. Start with them even with the bottom and see what it does, setting them down will help the boat plane at slower speed (great for towing little ones on floaties) but will cost top speed big time. 

Moving the plates down will bring the bow down (slower but better ride), moving them up will let the bow come up (faster but can develop other issues, porpoising). Like OC2Vegas said "only moving it in very small increments" a small change on the plates can make a big difference in how the boat acts and handles.

Chili, I just looked at your pics in the gallery, noticed the trim plates.  If those things are angled down much they will scrub off speed like a parachute !   Put a straight edge under the boat and make sure someone didn't set them way down.

If you move it forward you will need to move the motor forward, unless you use one of those drivelines that doest need a PTO.  As far as bad handling from the pump itself being forward, you could always use a bowl extension or a longer droop/snoot to make up for it, couldn't you ??

 Ironman and I have been talking about this same issue with his new project (same bottom same pump swap) and a few people have said, do not set a pump back on these boats, not sure why.

 Well I finally tore into the motor and found a dead cam. One intake valve had a total of 1/4" of valve lift. There were a few others that didnt look to good either.  New parts are on there way (just a basic little cam, almost stock  ) and it should be back together soon.  I took a look at a few rod/main bearings while its apart and everything looks great in there.  I guess I got lucky, all the missing metal from the cam and lifters is in the bottom of the pan.   I really cant believe how much abuse this poor old motor has taken and it still always gets me back to the ramp  .   

 Fear not Ford fans,  The MIGHTY BBF will be back in action soon, breathing fire and kicking Cheby azz all over the waters of the central valley !!!!

I agree with Proppy(I know your all shocked).lol  That would have been a good one for sure, I paid 3500.00 for my 21' sight unseen other than pics and thought I scored. Heck you could have even sold that big blender for a few hundy to boot.   Proppy you still holding on to your 21'?
 

 Yep,  Its still tucked away.  I started building seat frames for it.

 On a side note.  I did see another 19' sitting in the back of a place on 99 about half way between Bakersfield and Fresno last week when I was down at Skips.  The place looked like a used car lot for boats, and there was 19' tunnel of some kind sitting in the back with no motor.  I know theres a few members around there somewhere, maybe someone knows something about it.
