Cars / Automobiles For Sale / Re: 04 F350 - EGR Passage Problem
« on: March 24, 2010, 01:01:44 PM »
So far everyone is on with what they are saying but not 100%.  Your EGR is plugging up because of the shitty diesel we have to use and the fact that the 6.0 Diesels are so temperamental.  My old roommate is a Ford mechanic and has had my truck on the rack quite a few times for the white smoke and EGR. There is a solution. Nice thing s it only costs about 8 dollars. You have to use ford diesel injector additive every tank or at least every other tank.  When I went in for my EGR/white smoke he cleaned the hell out of the EGR and told me to start running the additive. He also checked the heads and the EGR coolant system and it was fine. I have straight exhaust and no cat.  The reason for the white smoke, mostly at idle, was un burnt diesel/fumes that the cat would normally catch. Well ran the additive and the EGR and white smoke went away. I stopped running the additive and within a week the white smoke was back and within the next few months the EGR was blocking up. Cleaned out the EGR myself this run the additive religiously and haven’t had an issue yet. Has to be Ford’s brand though. When I took it in the first time I was running Lucas additive and still had EGR blockage. So try this. Take out your EGR (two bolts) clean it with fords EGR cleaner. Be careful stuff will eat your skin. Then run their additive every tank or every other tank. It is 32oz and you only need four ounces a tank. So for $8 dollars you get 8 fill ups. If you have stock exhaust I would have the white smoke thing looked at. Good luck. On another note, using oil other than Fords Motocraft oil will cause you injectors to clog and go out faster. I know it sounds crazy but from his experience with motorcraft oil there are a lot less injector issues. This is due to the fact that the injectors are lubricated by the motor oil. LOL If you have any other questions please let me know he is a phone call away. I have 58k on mine and have no issues since he last worked on it.

I say cap as well. try larger wire at first but I don't think that is it. I have a 6 gauge powering almost 1000 watts in my truck and have no issues. Boats/trucks are the same. Motor, battery, alternator. I am running almost 15 ft from my batt in my truck to my amps in back cab.

Is your boat running when you are testing it out. If not it is clipping. It is not getting enough constant power from the battery. Trying firing the boat and seeing if that works. If you don't want ot fire the boat hook up a battery charger and crank it up and see if that lessens the clipping. It sounds like your amps are trying to pull to much at once.

The No Wake Zone / Re: Diesel Smog!
« on: March 03, 2010, 07:57:49 AM »
I got the phone call from a buddy of mine that works at ford in early January about this. From what I remember him saying all the smog places are really going to be looking for is a Catalytic Converter and a stock tuning. So set your programmer back to stock about the morning before the smog and go make a few quick laps to get all the excess diesel out of you pipes. I went to the local exhaust  shop and bought some pipe to run straight exhaust with no muffler.  I then made my own cat drop out and had the guy flare my stock cat so I can put it in and take it out as needed with two exhaust flanges.  I am pretty sure if you go to ford they will only check for a stock tuning and a catalytic converter. Intake should not make a difference on smog if it is California legal. If anyone discovers otherwise please let me know. I am running 2006 f-250 with a superchip programmer and 3” straight exhaust with an air raid intake.

Ps. If they do require stock intake I know that the stock for intakes are rated for up to 500hp. If I would have known that at the time I bought my upgrades I would have never bought the Air Raid.

« on: February 16, 2010, 03:44:41 PM »
My boat was doing the same thing for the longest time, pops and gaps all over. I couldn't figure it out. I am running a ZZ502 that had an 850 dbl pumper on it. Tried a few different things. Timing was tits. Put on a dominator and wahla. Popping went away. All I needed was about bigger stream. Story of my life. I say add more fuel.
