Making a new front plate shouldn't be so bad. What's GOING to be the PITA is that the front mounts will not line up with the current holes for the feet on your stringers (SBC is quite a bit shorter OAL than a BBC). I just wanted to thank all for your help, what a great site  :thumbup:. Now that I have the boat its time to get to work so I will be moving this to projects and I think I might of found Franklocs build on here so I will check out his thread. This will be my first jet build so I will be asking alot of questions and looking at other builds.

Yeah I had the same idea about modafying the front mount but Ray said it would be PITA. Send me a pic of the logs when you get a chance, would the snails I have work on the glenwood logs ?

I have a set of logs, snails and Hardin motor mounts for a BCC and need the same for a sbc will trade or sale.
If no one is interested Im looking for the front mount and OT or TT exhaust for sbc. I also have a jacuzzi yj that I don't need.

Thanks for the info Ray. I think I will try to trade or just buy some mounts for a sbc seeing how I have a sbc with about 3k invested in already.

Do a search for enviromental companys or petroleum contractors that install fuel tanks at gas stations. I build gas stations in Fl and use enviromental companys to dispose of old gas when we remove the fuel tanks, they charge around .20 to .30 cents a gallon.

I got the boat home, the guy I bought it from said the moter mounts where for a BBC. I have spare small block for a chevy so figured I would check the mounts. The rear mount match's up perfectly as you can see in the pic, so I would assume its for a sbc not a BBC ? but the front one shown in the pic is definatly not for a sbc, where it bolts to the block is a wider spread any ideas what I can do with the front ? maybe modaify it ? Also hers a pic of the logs and snails which I thought maybe someone on here might have some for a sbc and would want to trade? :-\ ::)

Thanks’ guy’s, I appreciate all the positive response. I have badass sbc I will be setting in it for now.
The boat comes with big block exhaust, and all the motor mounts and fly wheel cover and I will be looking to trade for sbc parts that will be needed so once I get everything I will be posting if anyone is interested. Thanks again

Yes it does come with the rest of the pump, I believe its a WJ cause I have a YJ and it looks a little diffrent from the one I have.

Thanks Ralph. I also liked the console, I figured I would replace the gauges and set them in some diamond plate, I have a trailer from another project boat but if I get this one Ill scrap the other and use that trailer.

I found a 18' 1973 Kona clean title. I checked it out and all the glass seems to be pretty solid, full stringers seem solid and transim as well. has both fuel tanks, jacuzzi wj I believe, motor mounts and complete exhaust for BBC, no trailer but for $ 400.00 I figured i could'nt go wrong. What do you all think. Some of you may say I could find a better deal but there are very few jet boats in my area Central Fl. thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a sbc 350 already built it came out of a 78 Z28 that ran low 12's, it only has about 12 passes on the motor.

Ok I took this one with my phone, I guess my pics r to big will have figure out how to resize the one's I took before I started working on it.

A trick I have used when on the Rogue is to take some Dawn dishwashing soap and water in a spray bottle at about 10:1 and spray it on all the shiny parts and let it dry, it forms a good barrier that can be washed off easily (this is actually how they keep copper plumbing fittings pretty while at the hardware store)...


Salt is most hard on any area of the engine that is exposed to air as far as in the cooling jackets, this is the number one reason for the addition of a heat exchanger...If you don't want to go closed cooling, I would recommend running it as cool as you can get away with (salt starts to crystallize at above 150*F) and flush often....Aluminum takes the hit first....

We have ran our boat in the salt every year for that last 8 years or so.  In fact, it's been in freshwater only a handful of times compared to almost exclusively in salt.  The nearest lake that we can try to run is an 1 1/2 hours away whereas the salt is less than a minute.

Up until last year all we ever used was soap and water.  The trailer, chrome wheels are all the original ones we brought home with the boat.  This last year we have used SaltAway and it seems to work really well as well (though much more expensive than soap)

The only areas that I have ever had a problem with relates to the Bassett headers and the starter. We would often get water splashed up on the motor.  The salt water would instantly evaporate away on the headers but leave little salt rings on the chrome.  No amount of polish would remove it.  Those same headers are now on the Sanger with no rust issues.  The starter would get doused with water from everyone swinging and with time would cause problems. At the time these were just cheapo Schucks starters.  I've since switched to Powermaster stuff and no problems period.

If the salt is close, don't hesitate boating there but just plan on cleaning the boat up when you get home.  I've always been anal about not doing anything till theboat is clean and put away.  Have fun



Heres the Sanger in the salt as well. 


I have had other boats and ran in salt water but this is my first jet boat. I guess one of my big concerns will be the headers. I plan on going wit Basset OT water injected headers and realize salt is not ideal and if there is anything diffrent I should do to save the headers other then a thorough cleaning and maybe some WD-40

I have a 15' jet boat project Im working on, I live close to the intercoastal waterway in FL. What do i need to know if I want to run in salt water, or is it not uncommon to run in salt water. BTW SBC. with a jacuzzi jet.
