If you have already drilled a hole keep drilling the hole until you can get a punch and crush the remaining away from the threads. Plug must have really welded itselg to the manifold. To keep useing easy out it won't work just carefully crush away from the threads.

Sounds like you have the ign hot wire put on the wrong post on solonoid.

Turn the 4 or 2 corner adjusting screws out a half or so , sounds like a lean situation.

I have had the same problem on my 460. Burnt ahole in the manifold, they run exceptionally hot. I now run a seperate line  for the manifolds and put the dump overboard. For me this solved my problem, now if the engine runs hot it won't effect the manifolds and viise versa.

Put O rings onthe shaft

Do you have the gound cable on the block. To check the switch take a test light and with the key or switch on and check for power going to the solonoid.  No power bad switch also you can take and put a screw drive to cabke and ingniton on solonoid if your stranded, not a fix for problem.

All good suggestions are waranteed, however you would be most benifited to be sure the engine you have is runing the best it can. That would be correct timing, all vacumn accesories are working properly, dist and carb. Correct jets in carb. I would run a single wire HEI dist simple, work well.
When all that is correct than you can advance to different heads, manifold, exhaust, bore size etc. All the accesories you mention don't amount to more hp only to help in obtaining the above. When the engine is runing the best then what it has to push, turn pull will come into play. EX. disconnect all compentents and turn the engine to any rpm you want, hook it up its a different story. Everything componet on or hooked to the engine is relevent to its performance.

Put all the fancy ignition away and buy a HEI single wire distrubutor, they run great pretty much bullet proof. I put all msd stuff aside and went HEI runs great. Now if you are runing a high power race engine then all the HD equipment is needed.

All the things you mention help the engine to run more effeciently, however you need parts to make more HP, such as heads, cam comp ratio etc. Again not being familuar with jet pumps and what HP they demand, I would say as you explain your motor I would say you are closer to 300-325 hp .

Sound like you are not getting into the secondaries. Be sure the vacumn diaphram is moving and not stuck from sitting. Check the spring, if yoo don't already have put the lightest spring in.

If you have ever been in high performance boat and go over for what reason. You would be thankful you had a jacket on, this year a friend of mine put his 21 ft Chris Craft in the water and he flipped the boat he almost expired himself along with a friend. He nows wear a jacket, in a pleasure boat. He was very lucky a person saw them to help, now these people were 70 years old and have been boating all their lives. Wear a jacket when you go over there is no time to think, I have been there done that.

Chevy has, had lifter bore issues, take a small brake hone and clean them up. The lifter needs to be able to rotate, even if you find something else it would be preventive maintance to do so.

If you are in doubt go with a fuel return system it works great , keeps the fuel supply charged all the time.

I have had the same problem and it is a small crack in the manifold. To test plug the exhaust end and put a little air pressure and a guage and you can see.

Be sure the air bleeds are clear, spray some W-D 40 on them, back the corner air screws out a quarter or so.

I run a 460 with a v drive and it too is a pain to regulate. I run the logs on separate line and dump as they require very low pressure. Then run the inlet water to the block in and thermostadt housing out, on the out lines run valves to control the flow out. I finally run a raw watere pump that puts out about 20 lbs of water pressure, this works for me. water pressure is critical.
Their are so many orfices with them together the temps change  the water ends up being forced thru  these fittings creating uneven flow of water. If you have a infred guage check the temps as been alluded too, the wrong sender will give wrong temps.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: cam ?
« on: December 22, 2010, 02:51:44 AM »
Hydraulic is fine unless balls out engine. that cam will run in the 5000-5500 range, however it is possible to turn, remember torque and HP meet at 5250 RPM. the cam will depending on its specs can make more hp .

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: What oil should I run?
« on: December 22, 2010, 02:46:10 AM »
Also a lot depends on the engine compression the higher the comp ex. 13,14, to 1 the top bearing get squeezed tighter rather than a 8.1 comp. the wear when running a high comp engine the top bearing bears the brunt of wear, like a diesel.
The more the engine is put together the more better oil is necessary.
