so is this a roller cam only deal? or should i be installing this for my solid flat cam?

It is best  to use thrust button  assy on BBC and SBC ALWAYS to help prevent block thrust wear.

something just doesnt sit right with me about that.....

you chevy guys sure rig stuff weird.

Brad:
1. assemble parts
2. put grease on inside of timing cover and install cover with a couple of bolts (make sure thrust button in place)
3.Rock cam back and forth too see what you got.

Not much else you can do...make sure you bend tabs on lock plate.

That just seems very 'rigged' for the timing cover to hold this piece in.

and just what is this adjustment on the timing cover? its a thin piece of stamped sheet metal  :screwy:

chevys

To adjust thrust play....ummm, put timing  cover on block,  and hit it with a BIG HAMMER  :sly:

The valve guides are not replaceable, they can be knurled or guide liners can be installed

Are you sure crew? I did a set of 781's I know they are knurled and you can have liners. But I thought that they could be pressed out and new ones could be installed. The 781 and 049 are almost identicle.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe mine were just lined!

But I agree with crew, def. have them checked first.

BBC valve guides  ARE REPLACEABLE !    but........

1. They are tapered and can only be removed and installed one way...or you will crack the heads.

2.  The guides block the water jackets , so with that being said....I PREFER using guide liners so that you do not disturb
the factory guide and possibly have a water problem.

3.  IMO the factory guide should only be replaced as a last resort.

--------hope this helps------- ;D  FORGOT TO ADD...YOU CAN MACHINE GUIDES FOR OVERSIZE VALVE STEMS  :sly:

I should have it rollin' by the end of the week...  hated that vanity anyways...

By the way, this is not directed at anybody imp-articular, but....What's with the frikken colors in the 70's...This focker was mustard yellow, then tittie pink, then violet  :P  then mint green..WTF ??? I had painted the escrow white a nice sand color, the contrast is bizarre...LOL
MAKE sure you use GREEN BOARD...and lots  of Cocking :screwy:

I prefer Clay Smith cams in Fullerton...ask 4 Goerge
                    or
Iskenderian Cams.

Something in hyd.    dual pattern,     .550 lift/  278 dur. adv. /  112 l/c should do it.  (Give or take)

all depends on your heads capabilities....and piston/valve  clear. :sly:
