FINALLY, it stopped snow, raining, blowing and freezing long enough that I felt "comfortable" rolling it outside.  I can pick it apart inside under all the bright lights but outside, this thing (and that Pure White SPI) is damn near blinding!!!!  

I am absolutely not beating my own drum when I say this thing outside revs me up.  Many thanks to all of you and the others on the "other board" and to Barry Kive as Southern Polyurethane Inc. for helping me through all of this. If any of you are ever tempted to paint the boat, I cannot recommend Barry more highly.

I still have to sand and buff it but given what I saw this evening, I am done, done, done, done.  Next is installing the pump, coming up with a rail kit/4 point mount and finishing that blower motor.

PS... for some reason the pics are way compressed so I don't know if they come across correctly. Kinda looks like a 14' boat for some reason....hmmmm

There is no way in hell this boat will ever have a rub rail on it again. It was a ton of work but looking at how that metallic pearl looks on that rounded edge......gives me a chubby.

I don't know how but that clear has gotten shinier and shinier. Almost a shame to have to sand and buff it but unfortunately I got some dust in the deck that is not gonna work.....crap

Thanks so much guys. I will admit, I'm pretty damn happy with the way it turned out.  That clear is amazing. I'm gonna color sand and buff the deck but I don't think I'll do anything with the hull since it's gonna be in the water.  We'll see

Wow , That looks amazing! I wish I had the dedication to pull something like that off. After everything is all said and done , what is the grand total?

Shit, if I can do it anybody can.  I've never even remotely attempted anything this complex and it still turned out in a good ole fashion garage with none of the fancy equipment. $80 LVLP gun, Sears compressor and a ton of advice from folks here and elsewhere.

As far as cost, hmmmmmm,  including all the epoxy for the cap job and glass work......... I guess I'd say around 2K. What's tough to tell is all the other stuff that you use.  Sandpaper, Masking Tape, Gun Filters, Spraying suits.....paper, Sharkskin plastic...ect, ect. ect.......   It all adds up quick .  The paint was surprisingly cheap compared to everything else.


PS.........as it set's the the shop it's gettin shinier and shinier (sp?)........

Just a small curious question John...  but are you spraying back to back (within 30 minutes or so) between coats...  or sanding?
FYI it's always best to go from coat to coat... then clear without sanding, given enough time between coats!  Stronger bond and all.
As long as the product is of same chemical make up,  thus base clear!

No worries Rob.  I've got a timer in the shop and I set it for 45 minutes per the manufacter between coats. All of this material is SPI and I love it.  Barry Kive is the MAN! Not only the owner and chemist of SPI, but has a ton of experiace spraying and has been a huge help to me.  I'm to the point where if Barry says to shoot my watchmacallit bright orange, I'd do it in a heart beat.

Hang in there guys with the crappy storm. We got our butts handed to us last night but it looks better and should be perfect Washington weather (rain & wind) by Kickoff time for the Hawks vs. the Redskins.

Blue is sanded and is ready to be re-applied. The repair was so minor but I just couldnt let it slide.  I'm thinking one coat will probably cover but I'll probably shoot another just to be sure the metallic is laying properly.  Then it's time to lay on the clear.

Man, does that bring back memories of tremendous fireballs out of the carb on a coupe I built years ago.  Come to think about it, that was the start of Jan getting gray hair too...

Splain to me why we havent seen this boat in every damn magazine two or three times already?  It's a whole lot nicer than the ones that have.....

Thanks guys. Got some wet sanding to do and then she'll be ready for some clear...... Man I can't wait to get back to the mechanical part.  I'm sick of sanding/spraying....
