;D I can not recommend Barry Kive enough. This guy is over the top fantastic and has supplied the paint and materials for many magazine cover cars.  Best of all is that he provides you his personal cell phone number if you have any question or problem......  When mine went shithouse, I called him on a whim not expecting anything but a voice message only to get him while he was shopping at Home Depot. He took the time to bail my ass out........  He's so damn nice and helpful it's scary..

As far as the baking in the sun, if Barry says it, I'm there......

Thanks guys  but it'll look even better with a blown bigblock........ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I still gotta blow some clear on it, color sand and buff, buff buff,  but I really am happy with the looks especially the cap job.

Thanks again.......john

Yup!  I be the birthday boy...

Best part is that Jan probably wont have to sleep on the couch to get away from me tonight.  I admit, I was probably a prick but I was so disappointed.........

Off to spray one more coat of blue and then unmasking for the red.... That "should" be a piece of cake compared to the metallic pearl........ O0

Barry is the best!

I was on the ledge getting ready to jump when I thought, they about the tech line, what's the chance of getting a hold of somebody?

Well, not only did I get someone to answer, but I got Barry (owner/chemist of SPI) while he was shopping at HomeDepot and instead of pointing out what I did wrong, he just said "well, then this is what we have to do" and proceeded to talk me not only off the ledge but also how to fix it.  What a fantastic guy and I highly recommend SPI. Not many paint companies have a tech line available 7 days a week let alone the owner/chemist!  Won't get that kind of service from PPG or Dupont

What I most likley did was when I was spraying the epoxy on as a sealer, I layed it on a bit too thick right on the capped area to make sure I had a good smooth base. Most likely, I trapped some solvents and as soon as I put the base on the solvents trying to escape didnt like the base coat.

Just sanded those areas back and went back over it. Worked perfect except one area where I need to do a bit more sanding.

I cant wait till john comes to my house and sprays my boat....hint hint

Thanks guys but OC, you DO NOT want me to spray your boat.  I've pretty much lost all my confidence after yesterdays Crazefest.  It's sanding out fine but yikes, that was a bummer.

Oh well, back at it today......thanks again everybody.

Let me be the first to say I would starve as a painter and couldn't carry the jockstrap of anybody that is one.
After pulling my hair out yesterday trying to tape out the graphics only to waste mulitple rolls of Fineline tape and having to have my son bail my ass out, I started spraying color today.

Shit, Houston, we have a problem. I got some serious crazing in the blue......double shit.

So, sanded it back and tried it again. Much better but I still have one spot that isnt right so I'll need to do some fine tuning.
Probably not going on as even as I had hoped but it's gonna still look pretty cool (from 1000 feet).
Here's some quick pics of the base coat.  It's Viper Blue Metallic Pearl.  Very nice color.
Still gotta shoot the red and then the clearcoat but you can kinda see what it's gonna look like hopefully soon.

You can start giggling now........

I am beat!  That was by far the most stressing thing of this entire project.  The design isn't going to be like what I had sketched but it looks really good in person. Now if I can just do my part with the painting side of thing.

Here's my #1 son bailing his pops out....

Okay, you gonna hear it first. My son bailed my ass out!  I was struggling trying to lay out the tape and I could see that it was NOT gonna happen.  I was even thinking of just keeping it white when he came out, modified the design and then proceeded to tape the thing out in a 1/4 of what I would have taken.

He's a good kid......thanks son

Okay, here we are at the moment.  The boat is all white base coat. Part of that will stay white and part of it will serve as the undercoat for the color.  To keep from marking up the white, I sprayed some Intercoat Clear in the areas where I'm going to be taping.  Jan and I are going to start laying out the graphics tonight.

The Intercoat gives the boat a nice satin look which I really think looks cool.....hmmmm

Here it is before the intercoat.  I know the picture suxs but since it's snowing there is no way in hell I'm gonna take the boat out for a better picture.

And here it is with the Intercoat on it......  Taping  comes next.

he had to use the timer on the camera....not even the wife would endulge the dirty picture fantasy!

Bingo......... >:D

Looks like a nice gloss on there already.

That's the white sealer I layed last night. Sprayed pretty smooth.

You got any paint on that thing yet???  ;D

Yup, it's all white now and looks pretty damn good iff'n I do say so myself. Not evne close to perfect but it looks really good in the base coat white that I picked. The cap job looks bitchin....... Stay tuned as I get ready to shoot some intercoat where I have to lay out my lines......

Pics to follow later today....................  ;)

Curious how many of us run them allynuminum (misspelled on purpose) rod things. I'm a steel kind of guy but given the maintenance and care that we give these motors, I bet those rods would last a surprisingly long time.
