Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: help stop the chirp
« on: June 20, 2011, 12:02:06 PM »
Blow through the pushrods to make sure they're clear, first. Then I'd fire up my drill and a priming stick with the rods out to make sure I'm getting oil out the lifters. Intake still on it?

Ray

intake still on Ray. machine shop says possible too much valve spring pressure but who knows. dont understand why its only 4 that are burnt could it be too long a push rod???? I know we had a hard time getting the right lenghts to get the valves to open and close right I think we had to use 4 differant sizes thanks Ray

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / help stop the chirp
« on: June 20, 2011, 10:59:09 AM »
I just removed the valve covers to investigate the chirping sound and dont like what I found. I had 1 broken rocker arm bolt and  the push rod was slightly bent. I also have 3 other pushrods that are blue at the rocker arm but fine the rest of the way and they spin in the holes. when we assembled the engine we had a hard time getting pushrods the right length for setting the valves  and ended up using sveral differant lengths of rods. Are they too long or too short the 4 blue ones dont seem to get oil to the top is this because they are too short too make a seal and oil does not come up the rods or something else I m lost help please

The No Wake Zone / Re: Anyone a GMC Truck/ Chevy Sales or Manager?
« on: June 18, 2011, 01:26:40 PM »
I hope you continue to be happy with your Chevy.  I am now on my third Dodge truck. Zero issues and over 250K miles on the first two. Minor electrical issue now at 70K.  My small town dealer is great but expensive, washes my rides even for a $20 oil change.
I wouldn't dismiss Ford so easily, they have a new F150 with a twin turbo'd 6 that gets 24 mpg and makes over 400 ft/lbs of torque.  I was thrilled last week when my Mega managed 14 mpg towing to the river.  Why would anyone pay $50K for a truck though?  My wife bought the Mega 4x4 w/ every option except sunroof OTD $31K.

diesel up here full load $85000

I'm still in! But "Policy"??? Ask Rivertard and my son about "Policy" there............... :sly:

Not sure, but I'm willing to bet we had 30 rooms or so last time I was involved in this.

Ray

They claim big changes have been made and people who booked 10 rooms would only sell 6 so hence the new policy. also the name Skip gave me for a contact no longer is with the Avi

I called the AVI and they have a new policy. instead of 10 rooms for a discount you have to book 15 rooms and I had to put up a $250.00 deposit to do it. The rates are thursday Aug 18    $26.10
                                                Friday Aug 19         $80.10
                                                Saturday Aug 20    $89.10
                                                Sunday Aug 21       $26.10

Not sure if enough will be interested but Im commited to coming and if we cant get enough we have to add 10% to those prices. I will be posting  a reservation code when they send it to me tomorrow

I finally found a few hours on Sunday and tackled the oil leak. It turned out to be the pan gasket was too large over the rear bearing cap and pinched outward and you could see right into the pan.An easy fix as I had a new gasket. we put the motor in the boat fired it up and now it has a chirp in the valvetrain. Im thinking rocker arem not getting oil or maybe a dry valve guide, the engine sat all winter without running . any suggestions or other ideas

Take it tongue in cheek brother!  Love ya like I was related to ya!

Ray
