Jet Pumps / Exhaust diverter to bottom of hull

I have a 86 Bahner 21' with a Berkeley jet and BBC 454. Just got the engine back from a rebuild and would like to install an exhaust diverter system while I'm putting it back in. I like to hear my radio when I'm idling around the marina.

I purchased some used, solenoid actuated, exhaust diverter valves that are kind of a Y configuration. Coming off my logs and snails is a 4" exhaust hose that heads out the back transom above the water line to the exhaust tips. I have enough room to splice in the diverter and run a 3" hose below the boat but I'm concerned about that and don't want my boat on the bottom of the river or blow my motor by pumping it full of water. Also wondering what tips to use if this isn't a stupid idea.

Is this a bad idea? Anyone have any experience with this?

What color was the smoke? White? Grey? Sure it wasn't steam and not smoke. An engine that hot spraying water on the engine, exhaust manifolds and in the engin compartment and with the bottom end sitting in a puddle is going to steam like.... How did you put it?

Anyway, I have one of those water gate valves on my Berkley jet pickup too. Always thought it was to regulate the engine temp otherwise why put it on at all? If I run it all the way open the temp is really low, like around 90-110. I try to run around 150. I run 2 bilge pumps. One on the float switch system direct to fuse and one to switched power. Seems like every time I put the boat in the water, I have to jump in because I forgot to put the plug in...

Nice to have that extra pumping volume when you need it.

Good to know. I thought the alternator dropped the charging down some if the battery was fully charged. Been pushing paper too long I guess... LOL Thanks.

I have a whole list of little things I need to start working on my boat. I purchased it back from my painter which I traded for work a couple of years ago. Its a 21' Bahner open bow with Berkley and BBC 454.

Upholstery is completely gone. Need new frames, skins and foam. Brade/buy seats or need reasonable shop.
Windshields are cracked, faded and busted. About 51.5" x 7.5" dark bronze or gray/black tint. A flat piece of Plexiglas would do.
Dual fuel tank selector solenoid is missing. Be nice to have some 3/8 blue rubber fuel line. Nothing fancy.
Bow rail passenger side is bent beyond repair. Supports at about 12, 25, 94 143 Other wise I can get it fabricated? Not sure.
Carburetor is too small (650 Holley), Not sure what to put on a stock 454 but my "out of the hole" is bad. Might be partially the pump.
Carpet thru out. Dark Grey or Burgundy.
Battery box lids. Yes just the lids...7.5x13 opening.
Power Radio antenna
Black bumper edge molding
Dual Battery isolator for charging.
Alternator stays charging at 14v on a brand new battery so I think the regulator is shot.
He didn't even leave me a ski rope.
