Thanks for the input. Pulled it apart last night. Droped the pan and there was the oil pickup sitting in the bottom. Going to do some measureing tonight. As of now a couple broken rings, and one rod journal doesnt look the greatest, but should clean up. If anybody else has any suggestions? Thanks again

The No Wake Zone / Intro and 454 bbc engine questions

Just wanted to introduce myself. Ive been creeping around the site for the last few mounth trying to gain some knowledge. Bought my first boat last Sept. 78 Hawaiian Mini Day Cruiser, 454bbc, berkley jet etc. Has ran good until last week. Took it to Laughlin@Avi for a 6 day vacation. First day starter took a shit, fixed that (new sierra starter $204). Oh well its all part of the game. Next day flattend a cam lobe, done for the week. Still had a good time even without the boat. Know i am pulling the motor, going to rebuild the whole thing, from top to bottom. Motor is an older 70's 454 oval port, performer manifold, holley 650, comp roller rockers. Thats all i know untill i pull it apart. question is...looking at a comp cam (int 270/exh286) (int226/exh236@50) (lift.544/.547) (Ls112). Would this be a good mild cam? Also would like to go to 9-1 compression (pump gas). Really dont want to change carb (just rebuilt) or manifold (just plated). Looking to build the motor 420-450hp@500fpt. Just want a solid running motor. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Will post some pics later.
