It was pointed out to me that this manifold is NOT a C460, But actually a "M9424-G429" intake. I corrected the C/L ad to reflect this. If some one here on the board buys it I will include USA shipping with the purchase price. Sorry for the misinformation.

Ring gap is determined by the piston manufacturer. Contact them for their specs. FYI, I just completed my 460 build yesterday. Lots of good info here.

Pair 74cc C8VE-E heads off of a 1968 Lincoln, brand new from the machine shop. $400
The other pair is very used 95cc 1978 stock heads. $100
Also a stock cast iron SCJ intake. $100
Holley 650cfm carb vacuum secondaries $175....
Located near Sacramento...-Rich in Rocklin

Also when you change cams check with the cam manufacturer. Some use a smaller diameter base circle and then you need longer pushrods....

Be aware of the back spacing on these rims. I bought similar wheels for my 26 foot nordic trailer & found out the wheels rub on the trailer frame. Wasted time & money on my part.....

I have two buckets & a 46" wide bench. They've been sitting in the Nevada desert for 24 months as per the the guy I bought the boat from. I'm going with all new interior. Both the bench & buckets have plastic frames. The vinyl needs to be replaced as the sun damage & the PO was a smoker so the bench has burn holes in the back & seat cushion. I think $300 is a fair price. The only down side is I live in Sacramento. Shipping would be a deal killer.

It is very important to use an oil with a high zinc contant to give your cam a chance to live a long life. I use Vavoline 20-50 racing oill with high zinc content. You can get it at any NAPA store for about $5-6 a quart. Just for good measure I add a bottle of Lucas Engine Break-In Oil Additive with Zinc-Plus. Also available from your local NAPA. No I do not have any interest in NAPA....

« on: May 16, 2014, 06:26:42 AM »Pipe cleaners are a interesting approach think I'll just buy the ones with the holes choked down to .40 and may be do the external drains on the heads.
Take one of your pushrods to ACE Hardware & buy 16 roll pins that can be pressed inside & you're good to go & saved some $$$$.
I welded two 1/2" bungs in my valve covers for the return lines. Saved having to pull the heads....-Rich

You might consider a compression test to rule out a blown head gasket...This will give you a basic idea of the condition of your engine.....-Rich

Before changing the cam, it would be a good idea to do a compression & leak doewn test. This will give you an idea what the internals off your engine are. Any cam with a wore out engine is a waste of time & money.

Thank you for the education. A little history, my barge is a 21' day cruiser, family boat that will never see 50 mph. The engine is spinning a stock Jacuzzi YJ pump. Fully loaded it tips the scales around 3,000-3,500 lbs. Because of the weight of the boat & the pump's limitations, I am bascially limited to 5500 rpms. So I didn't build the engine to max horse power, but more for economy & low end torque. This is why the choice of a Edelbrock 650 carb.
As to tuning it, I will be out on the lake Mother's Day weekend with my new jets, springs & metering rods.
BTW the cable extension from Edelbrock worked like a charm. Cut it to length & all is good.
