Haha, yeah, Big River is an easier driver. Between the wind in Victorville and the grades (especially coming back), my truck will burn fuel.

Are you guys still in business? I would like to do a full resto on my 21 trailer this winter. Paint, add more lights, change a few things, fenders, wheels/ tires and etc.

There really is a big hole in the SoCal trailer market, especially now that Custom Trailers in Rancho closed the doors (couldn't say no to the purchase offer for the property). I think there is a good demand for guys fixing up older boats and putting alot of effort into older projects, and the trailer is a big part of that. If there is anything I can do to help any of you guys out, let me know.

« on: September 02, 2014, 10:08:58 PM »Yeah the CST one I used a pipe wrench and tightened it up but the seal was gone to hold in the grease near the zerk fitting. They woldnt just sell me a seal. Got the Fabtech on there so far so good.
Yeah like a Rock. I like and dislike parts of the big 3 diesels cant afford a new so I got the best mid 2000 u can get not alot of smog stuff engine might be Half Jap but theres a reason Internationals arent in Superdutys anymore (note head gasket failure x10) and Dodge cant build a tranny for shit.
I got 06 LBZ 650tq 6 speed Ally like I said before not alot of smog crap.
Lets not get into ford vs chevy stuff Im sharing info about a non factory part.
Do yourself a favor and check out KING OF THE HILL article from Diesel Power Mag. They do all 3 real world test pull skid steer and log the real world info. Ill give you the result now the Chevy won Ford a close second and they both shit on the Dodge.
Granted a 2014 Cummins will pull a 30,000 fifth wheel but would u try with that trans?
Id buy a 2014 SuperDuty but I cant afford a 70,000 Platinum Edition

I would rather have the truck you have or a 2007 classic. New truck prices are through the roof.
The tap shift 6 speed is the shit for towing up grades. I sold my 2007.5 LMM about a year ago. I loved that truck, but I live near the beach and parking sucks. I needed something that fit in my garage.
The LBZ is basically the same engine, minus the DPF. So you don't have to dread removing all the emissions crap. The truck you have will last you a long time. I have a buddy with the same year truck with around 300k miles on it. It's gone through a set of brakes and and a set of glow pugs . That's it!
If I end up buying another diesel down the road, I'll be looking for an 06-07. Or maybe I'll just try to buy my old one back.

WarZone / Hoven Sunglasses?

I have an old pair that are now in my garage. I use them as safety glasses.
The paint peeled off the frames after a short time. I'm not a fan. I prefer Spy or Von Zipper. A little more than Hoven, but much better quality.
Only problem I ever had with Spy is a screw falling out. Took them to LensCrafters or something in HB and they put a screw in at no charge.
I know they are kinda cheese ball to some and my friends bag on me, but I love those sunglasses floating straps. I bought a pair at the river last summer and haven't lost or broken a pair of shades at the river since.

I have a similar set up. I'm not the biggest fan and would prefer a "pivot-hitch", but I bought it this way. Mine has 4 bolts so it's nice and time consuming. I'd like to get it converted to pivot but someone cut off the entire tounge, so I think that option is gone.
Oh and whoever made did the work, made it swing so the jack had to be moved to the other side. So now I have a 2nd useless jack mount which looks dumb. Why didn't he just make it swing the other way? Ha
My trailer is defiantly getting a restoration this winter.

Might be a lil late now, but next time give Guy's Marine Repair a call in Mohave Valley. He picks my boat up from storage, makes the repair and mails me a bill. All I have to do is make a phone call to him and my storage and I'm done with it.

I had one on a previous boat (21 shockwave) I thought it was a little difficult to turn while cruising. My 21 ultra doesn't have one and it doesn't seem to have that issue. I also haven't noticed any handling difference while at idle.

Did you reinforce the new one? I had washers welded on to repair the first one that cracked. It cracked again a year or so later, so I bought a new one and had them weld plates on the ends to make it stronger. I sold the truck, I wonder if that solved the problem.
I find it interesting that CST doesn't make a new one and include it in their kit. It's a very common problem.

Stopping for fuel sucks, especially when you have to maneuver a trailer around the station. I had a v10 on 37s that burned about 30 gallons one way with out towing. Luckily it had the long bed tank, because that truck had the turning radius of a school bus so tight maneuvers with a boat suck.
Do some research on the Suburban tank. I'm sure there has to be a way to mount one under a tahoe. I think the burb comes with a 34 gallon tank.
I pulled my boat home recently with my 08 tahoe. It gets there (270 miles) with a half a tank unloaded, but it will burn the entire tank with the boat behind it.

My 2500HD went for 6 years on a 8" CST kit on 37s and never had a tie rod issue. Other than pulling a trailer into camp at the dunes, it was always driven on asphalt. My torsion bar mount/crossmember cracked (a common issue), but other than that, no problems.
CST makes a pretty stout set of replacement tie rod ends. I never needed them, but it was probably the one thing I always planned to do, however I ended up selling the truck.
