Water level is NOT as bad as everyone is stressing on here.  It is low but we didn't have any problems.   Although there were some that did
Cove was "closed" and had a sign stating so but the cops said that it is a do "at your own risk" thing and would not be ticketing boats for going in there.  Plenty of boats made it back including some v-drives and other prop boats with no problems. 
Cops did mention that if the lake drops another foot they shut the entire lake down,  just FYI.

Damn.. a few of us were planning on going out this sunday now im all nervous about knockin the prop off my flatty, we were out on easter and it was fine..

I'm right there with you.  I"m trying to find historical data on lake levels to compare it to when I went in March but I can't find anything that is semi current.  And the stuff I did find is a few months out of date. 
I'm thinking I will still go but it will be with a stick to find the shallow spots.... hopefully.

Defiantly use gear oil.   If you look around on the companies website,  it will tell you what weight to use but I am pretty sure it's 90w

When you run the headers dry you get max performance from your headers.  I have heard that running a wet header robs a little power but I don't believe it is anything to worry about.  And as already mentioned, dry headers get hot!  REALLY HOT!!  So I would recommend running a wet and by using the basset t valve, it will keep water flow to your headers very low when at idle.  And as your engine rpm's rise the pump creates more pressue, opening the valve more and giving more water for your headers.  And unless you have a HUGE cam in your motor, you will not have a problem with getting water in the motor.   But i'm lazy and run a banderlog valve.

I also run the Comp Cam marine cam that is set up for a berk.... And it is AWESOME!   Sounds great too at idle.  I manage to idle at about 750 with it and doesn't die.  I switched over to full roller motor when i did a rebuild and it was worth it.

Seams like my jet boats always had that last bit of water in the bilge the pump wouldnt pick up. I noticed the pan was always juuuuust dipping into the water, Best oil cooler you can get......

And cheaper too..
