Project Boats For Sale / 19' bubble deck
« on: June 17, 2012, 11:48:28 AM »
-Hi I have a 19' 76 eliminator bubble deck. It has a bbf 460, high rise manifold, tunnel ram, basset headers, edelbrock carb, just rebuilt the heads and the pump this season. The pump has been completely rebuilt with the full rebuild kit from cpp. I also have a marine stereo deck and speaker that are not in the boat but will come with the boat. The boat also comes with the tandem trailer with new tires. The boat is green and white; the gel coat is in good condition. The seats and carpet are ok one seat pad needs to be re upholstered. boat seats 4. I am in San Diego east coutny. Last trip with the boat was memorial weekend, boat ran great for the whole trip. On Monday brought the boat home and it would not start. The problem is the distributor $300 give or take. That is all it needs to run again. Me and my lady are getting married so i have to start saving money and not just spending it. I love this boat I am the 2nd owner the guy I bought it from was the original owner. It has been garaged just about the whole time and well taken care of. I am not in a rush to sell it but it is for sale. Let me know. I have plenty of pictures. I am looking to get $3000 obo

« on: May 21, 2012, 08:50:48 PM »
I just put my pump back into the boat and I am trying to make sure I seal the transom corectly so it does not leak water into the boat. What  did was siliconed the gasket to the transom and the gasket to the actual transom also of corse tightened the screws and bolts.

Ok cool thanks Cole. I am going to have to find a manual where did you get yours? I also found a guy selling a pump new rebuild last year might just buy it from him. The only this is the pump he has is a 12JC, do you know the difference between 12JB. And if i do it myself with a friend CPP is the place for parts.

Update: Well I have the offical word, the pump is going to need some love like $1200 worth of love. New impeller wear ring bearings seals. Is it somre thing i can do my self and save 600 or so bucks. I am also thinking that if I can find a Pump on here or craigs list and its cheap enough that I will just get that to get me threw the next few trips. Any one have a pump laying around. HAHA

If your pulling pump for thrust bearing...replace all seals and gaskets. If your impeller is good leave it alone. The packing behind bearing is more than likely where your water is coming from. Those are to be snug not to tight. Over tighten will cause it to leak and then need to be replaced. How did it run without pump hooked up?

Well I got the pump out yesterday. It was a fun time for sure took me most of the day since I had never done it before. I have been told to replace all the seals I am actuly thinking of buying the master rebuild kit ($495) with the impeller and all the other good stuff that comes with the kit and I will be caling JP Marine in lLakeside to see what kind of price they have to jut rebuilt it them self.

Update checked what I could and all seemed fine the flex plate, inspection hole, and u joints. I think the next step is to pull the pump out. Do I just start at the rear of the boat and start to unbolt it and work my way forward till i get to the suction area were the thrust bearing is located. Do you guys think since it will be apart it would be a good time to get a new impeller and rebuild most the pump.

The flexplate is your "flywheel" or "ring gear" bolted to the rear of the crankshaft that your starter uses to start it, and where your jet drive PTO is bolted to the center of. The dampner is the hub at the front of the crankshaft with a pulley boled on it to drive yer alternator.

Ok thanks Ray those should be easy enough to check and the info on what it is and where it is located is very well described.

Just a couple of things to check before you get too carried away blaming a bad jet, or motor, for the "rattle" and start irreparably ripping stuff apart. Could be minor. Check all the bolts for your PTO shaft, adaptor (If it has) and flexplate. Seen those come loose more than once. Check your dampner, wouldn't be the first I've seen start to come apart either. Lastly, check the U-Joints in the driveline. Those are almost NEVER greased, and a lot do not have zerks in them anyway. Lastly, (firstly, really) double check a rock or something isn't stuck in the impeller.  ;)

Ray

Ok so I have been looking at the expaned exploded views of parts list for the pump I am using the 12JG model. Not to sound uninformed what is the flexplate and dampner. Today I am going to be looking in the hand hole to see if can see any rocks or blockage I will also be looking under the boat in the intake grate, an checking the pto bolts, u-joints. I plan to undo the u-joints start the motor and make sure the rattel is not in the motor.

Ok cool guys and thanks for the info. Is the thrust bearing something I can do myself by taking the pump apart. Also does berkeley use the same thrust bearing for all there pumps. I feel this pump is old like from the 70's its a 12JB-A model and I cant find info about it anywhere. Looks like I will be calling JE in the moring or first thing monday.

Hey every one. I was out on the water today, running my boat making sure it was all good for the river this up coming memorial weekend. It ran fine for most of the day but at the end going back to the launch the boat started to rattle and knock and lost just about all the power it has. It seemed like it was not coming from the engine more the pump. I immediately slowed down and limped it in to the launch. I noticed a good amount of water coming in from the pump area where the drive shaft meets the pump. I went to a local boat shop and they believe it is the bearing and seal I also meet some guy in line at the shop who seamed interested in my problem. I asked him and he seemed to have the same opinion. Once I got home I started the boat up again and for about a 10 sec it sounds fine but then it starts to rattle. Any help or ideas. The motor is a 76 460 new heads and tuned up recently. The pump is old I’m sure its the original its a Berkeley 12JB-A at least that is what I found on the pump the serial number 7559062. Does Berkeley still make parts for this or what do I do. I am in North County San Diego but the boat for the most part is stored in east county, Are there any trust worthy shops around here or people. If it is just the thrust bearing and seal is it something me and a friend can fix. Thanks for reading if you need any other info let me know.

Thanks
Philip
