Wha? You will NOT lose any roost     ..... But, roost is NOT fast. I can see your "one of those".... Who the hell told you that you will lose rooster ability?

All this to pick up 5 or 6 MPH? Your friggen nuts. You think your going through a lot of fuel now?

The loosing the roost ability was my assumption. I figured if you use a drop snoop and a 4° wedge, this well lower the center of the nozzle and its pitch. So i was thinking you would loose that ability. Yes, I do agree that the rooster tail does nothing for speed.I was always told best performace comes with the roost just barely breaking the surface.

5 -6 mph with all that would be false. with the supercharger I would also have to go from the aluminum A Impeller to a stainless 9.25 to keep the boat at the same max 5000 rpm. Here I can see a little more gas use. But with just a droop snoop, 4° wedge, loader grate and nozzle insert reducer should get me from around 3 - 5mph. But I dont see how this would waste more gas. As all I would be doing is making the boat more efficient by making the boat run less wet. I think I should see a very small improvement.

I SAID if you cruise you would get good mileage. I do with my Cobra. I ALSO SAID if you have a lead foot you won't dumbazz 

I was going to try the Place diverter droop with a ride plate that attaches to the droop until TIM PLACE SCREWED ME. I tried it on my Rogers and it was the wrong direction. To small of boat for what that thing is. Buy it from someone like Tom at JBP and you will get a fair deal.

I don't believe a shoe and ride plate would do you any good. Call somebody who does this for a living and ask. Fuel injected Procharger would get you there. 5 or 7psi would work good with that engine. How much are you willing to spend? Are you able to do the work yourself? If not it's really expensive. Have you ever heard the phrase "Expect to spend $1000 for every mile an hour to go above and beyond your stock set up" I've lived it for a long time and found this to be pretty accurate.

Or you could do what I did. Buy a small jet boat for going fast.

I talked to Greg Shoemaker at GS Marine. He told me if I leave the motor alone to just add a droop snoop, 4° wedge, loader grate, and a smaller insert in the nozzle. He said only get a shoe and ride plate if I build more power and to stay away from the bolt on ones out there.  He also said, if my engine isn't a left over 04' model I can't get the 3.5 psi Procharger. If I can, I can get about 580hp from it. If its an 05' motor my only option is the Raylar kit or a new motor.
What are your guys opinion on this?

I was thinking a procharger kit that is mild around 2.5 - 3 psi with a shoe and ride plate, and an AA Impeller?

How much are you looking for speed wise?

Gonna cost you a small fortune for not a lot of gains.


Got a Blackhawk outdrive in the shop, the boat will do an honest 70 MPH with your current engine and draw the same amount of water at speed as the jet....

Just don't even attempt to pull a tube or a wakeboard.

Where are the heavy items in your boat? Battery(s), fuel tank(s) and so on. Believe it or not, weight placement and total weight is important for both ride quality and top speed, unfortunately forward weight is f=good for ride, but destroys speed, and weight aft is good for speed, but the ride suffers.

I would like to hit an honest 65 MPH.

All the weight is in the aft of the boat.  4 6 volt batteries, 1 12volt battery, then all the gear under the rear seat and ski locker.

Another question I have. Is it possible to change out the I/O style shifter/throttle to a gas pedal and separate shifter?  After the test ride I can't get used to how it operates. Even after years of owning an I/Oboats, I feel all jet boats need a foot throttle and separate shifter.

Nope not kidding. Read alot about it years ago and can't find any of it now. It does depend on the set up, I'm sure it can go better with a prop in many cases. I'm also sure many advances in technology have a difference since then. Maybe even with this 23' jet a prop would be better. My experience with both jet and I/O in 21' boats I can go much farther in my jet while cruising. Last time I launched in Havasu and cruised an estimated 100 miles I got close to 10mpg which surprised me. 4 or 5mpg is pretty good in a boat.

Hey 5150 I was having issues with a poor running boat when I got there and I had to fix it first, then it was to late to stop and meet everyone. Looking forward to next time 

In my old 20.2' Omega with an Indmar 330HP I could run all day and still have gas left over. I believe it had twin 20 gallon tanks.  Even though the Cobra says 23' its more like 22'.  there is a foot of molded swim step molded to the boat that isnt part of the hull.

I remember seeing this boat last summer a buddy of mine that works by cobra was tinkering with the thought of buying and I believe it is. Nice boat very well made and a lot of $$$ into it kinda big for a jet in my eyes but heh I've only been boating for 6 years and on my second boat, there are guys on here that will get u all the answers u need. Where do u boat, what are u looking to do with the boat etc etc if ur trying to hit 100 mph probably look at a smaller boat u want a great family cruiser or kinda party boat but still run good and go in shallow water Yahtzee u found it.

I am also curious if the boat is a little large for a jet boat. I had an 84' 20.2' Omega back in 98. Loved the boat. Buy out grew it since I usually boat in Havasu or Mojave.  At that boat I had a 30' Baja Outlaw with twin HO's. But divorce is a SOB. So getting back on my feet and starting over. Been boat less for the last three years. And the memories of that old her boat always come back. So I want to give it another try. Dealer said with the 420HP motor I should hit 60mph.

a big boat like that should handle just about anything you can throw at it.. i would use it before i put a ride plate on it.. not sure you can though. that looks like the insert pump??? not sure you wont break any speed records any way... thats a good looking boat though..

Insert pump?  Sorry for the ignorance, but what is an insert pump?  All i know its an American Turbine  set back pump.

I'm new to the forum and have a few questions for you guys. Looking at buying a 2005 Cobra 23' Viper. It has the Kodiak 496HO, with an American Turbine 12TD. My questions are; is the boat a good handling boat?  Does it handle well?  what are your guys opinions on adding a shoe and ride plate?  Loader grate?  Droop Snoop?
