For power i went back and forth with doing a LS turbo motor.  But in the end I decided to stick to a Big Block Chevy, so Hal had a spare mark IV, 4 bolt main standard bore block.  I am having Barry Obler out of Parker build it for me, he has a great reputation, and i feel completely comfortable with his work.  The plan is a 496, aluminum heads, tunnel ram with a harwood scoop.  Hoping for about 750 reliable HP.  More to come...

Got a nice pump from Eddie, but it was blue! Well that's not gonna work, so it came apart, sent out to powder coat for Jalapeno Red!  At the same time gonna upgrade the internals, hardened shaft, inducer, etc.  Went back and forth about doing a low profile intake, but ultimately i need all the room i can get since it is still a family boat.  Low profile intake would most likely mean moving the motor forward and less back seat.  Brad had some intakes, i picked one up and sent it to Jack McClure, and had it machined for the rideplate and shoe, and then went to powdercoat with the pump. 

Summer was over, and the real fun began.  Motor came off, interior came out!

Most of the red anodized trim pieces had faded, so ordered new ones from Marine Industries West.  It's all in the details!

I'm no expert on outboards by any means, so after getting it home i got it started, It was a 200 2.4 Black Max Mercury, very clean motor but I know nothing about these things.  I took it to Joe at Havasu Hot Laps, he was the man! I got referred to him by one of his long time customers and he got me in right before Desert Storm which was awesome.  Motor was in excellent shape, but definitely needed a tune up.  Compression was good across all cylinders, he changed all the fluids and filters.  I told him my plan was to convert it, first thing he said was to run it for a summer and see what i thought.  Maiden Voyage- Backbay for the mother's day SCJB trip.

Been a minute since I've been on the forums! So here's the backstory on my current project. Picked up a 89 19' Daytona last spring, Previous owner had it for about a year and bought it from the previous deceased owners daughter.  Was not listed for sale anywhere, he made a comment on the SCJB Facebook page where someone was selling a open bow daycruiser about possibly trading for a Daytona, no pictures just a comment.  I saw this right after he posted and messaged him right away to see what he had. He shot me a pic, and said he was about 30 minutes away from me, It was an outboard which I was a little disappointed about, but it looked extremely clean so off i went.  When I saw it, i had to have it!  He couldn't get it started, but that just gave me a little bargaining power, it was CLEAN!  Down to the original interior, he even had pics of it being rigged from the original owner.

Probably as far as I will get with the hull for awhile, need to start on rebuilding the motor, pump, and trailer.  Plan to replace the floor in the fall, definitely don’t wanna do it in the Vegas summer heat.

Thanks guys, i took Capogni’s cruiser for a ride down in Blythe when we were there for brads party and I was impressed with the ride. Plus I like the lines and colors obviously this will take me a while to complete because I think it is a keeper and it will be done right.

Picked this up a couple weeks ago, was gonna just throw a motor in and run it but after closer look (and falling thru the floor) decided nope. She’s gonna get a full rebuild. And it has to be up to snuff I don’t roll in junkers!
