Jet Pumps / Re: What's it take to get a Hallet bubble deck into the 90s?
« on: August 23, 2024, 09:31:53 PM »
What's it take?  How much HP,?  What kind of pump work?  I assume pump has to be set back further as well.

There have been a few Hallets on the boat forums that have been into the 90?s. Like Mash on it said, about 750hp and some good pump work. The couple that I can think of, both had big Fords. Weight and an uneven bottom make a jet boat less efficient = less speed.

Although the original post was not about Smellsumore, the lake has reopened as of 2/10/23. Makes for some good local testing.

Interior / Re: Yellow boats chime in !!!!

The time has come for new seats. Stock front buckets are 17s and the back bench is probably original from the 70s. So I ordered 20" front buckets and a fiberglass rear bench shell from JBP. I just can't make up my mind on what color I want. JBP only offers a two color pattern.  The main color of basically the whole seat and a separate "trim" color. So just hoping to see some other yellow boats to get some ideas and/or inspiration. Whatever you got, let's see it!!

Are you talking about the fiberglass seat back or the upholstery?
I think a medium grey would look good.

Have you figured out what changes/modifications are going to be made?

Are you planning on getting a larger oil pan?

Well I?m not looking to spend a fortune but I want to get a good quality one and possibly looking to tow with it

This thread is from 2007. But I think this is the guy I was talking about. I think a few people on here used him over the years.
I just went on Craigslist and found this one
https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/boa/d/riverside-custom-boat-coversprotect/7525053121.html

Here is another thread from 2015

https://www.socaljetboats.com/interior/boat-covers-24908/msg290542/#msg290542

It might be worth calling around to some marine upholstery shops maybe to get an idea of price.

Here is a link to a thread that discusses floors and stringers. I?m not sure if it will answer your questions though, especially about the exotic woods. Have you thought about putting color on the stringers like in the thread I posted?

It might be worth a call to Eliminator Boats.

Depends on how much you?re looking to spend. Are you looking for a nice tow cover or just something to throw over it while stored? If you do a search, there was a guy a lot of people used, I think he worked out if his house. I?ll take a look later and see if I can find the info. Most marine upholstery places will make custom covers.

If you want just a decent cheap one, Overtons online store is a good place to check out.
I need to get a new boat cover I?ve noticed my current cover getting beat up over the years and want to get a good quality one. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance

Going off of the Olds article, Do you know what Olds oiling mods have been done?

Another thing from the article, is the divider between the center exhaust ports on the heads. It doesn?t meet flush with the header flange and has a gap from port to port. They fill it in and grind it to have a nice flat area for the exhaust to hook up to.

I don?t think he gets on here to much anymore, but 69 Kona had a pretty good running Olds. Maybe send a pm and see if you can pick his brain.

Single carb
Single carb
Single carb

That makes it a bit easier.

What Joe (Flusher) is saying about killing the packings and wear ring is that they are water lubricated. Running without being in the water kind of like running a bearing with no grease.  A start up is ok, but not too long. The packing glands can start to ?burn? and the wear ring could have debris that can mar the wear ring and impeller.

Looking for suggestions on where I should set idle on trailer.  1200ish?  Idles awesome on trailer about 900 rpm but, of course, in the water with the impeller lol ad won't stay running, and a moving, loaded boat is not ideal for idle tuning...

I think I?m about 1200ish, (my tach stopped working a long time ago).
Like you said it?s different in the water, under load. Your going to have to set it a bit higher, then launch and do it on the water after it warms up a bit.

Single or dual carb?
