I got my wheel from Andy's autosports for 300 but came with BILLIT hub. New key way. New bolt. And even came with a tiny lil tube of loktite... If there is anything I can help with let me know 8049192925 Patrick

I don't know if there is a standard length on ride plates, but the longer it is the more it blocks the reverse bucket and starts limiting how well it works.
I measured 8 wide by 16 long and that is an inch short from rev bucket

Supposedly tom was the owner when it was v drive then he sold it to someone in socal they converted it to jet then ended up in Alabama and I traveled from Virginia to Alabama to get it. BTW I got it dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt dirt cheap and it was turn key so I ain't complaining not one bit. Thanks for your input. You are a knowledgeable person when it comes to these things,....

I was thinking about swapping out the 396 for a 454 and buy a place diverter. It does have a shoe and threaded holes for ride plate

Tbe question you pose is too open ended.

Personally I feel an AA is too tall for a 396.

What rpm does it run at now? What hull? Where does the motor make the assumed 400 ponies?  What do you do with the boat?

If you cut the impeller down, about the only thing I guarantee you will gain is some rpm. That being said if you can make another 50 or more hp at the new rpm, you might see a couple more miles an hour.

If you are thinking you will pick up several miles an hour by cutting the impeller, I am afraid that you will be extremely disappointed.

Can you describe your set up a little more?

Hull weight, where are the tanks? What ignition, carburetor(s)?
Do you have a Place Diveter, loader, shoe, ride plate?

And the most important question, how thick is your wallet?

the hull weight empty is 400. Motor is 40 over. Dual plane edelbrock and 600 carb. No place diverter but am currently on the hunt for one. Has a shoe. Had a split bowl and ride plate but were changed at some point before I got it. Now has JC bowl. And my wallet . . . . . . . . . .

I am currently running a 396 with about 400+ HP with Aa impeller. What would I gain or lose with a, a/b, or b? Not a drag boat just a nice lake boat wanting to go a little faster

Basically stated,  run the angle long side vertical, drill and taper a 5/16" hole every few inches on the short side and after smoothing the intake surface flat where you need to bolt the new fins on, set them in some epoxy and bolt then into some pre drilled and tapped holes. All you need to do then is shape therm and clean it up. Smoothing  everything up with Sea Going epoxy.

I agree with extending them to the opening of the intake.

I will see if I can dig up some old pictures of a couple we did.

There is plenty of meat to bolt to on a Berkeley intake.
