Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Gate valve routing
« on: May 31, 2017, 04:22:22 PM »
So I'm replacing my leaky gate valve. I noticed it has a 90 fitting right as it enters. Is this necessary? All the setups ive seen run straight from the pump to valve. This has to be a flow killer right? Thanks

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: CP Performance wiring harness
« on: August 31, 2016, 11:22:39 AM »
So, Ill throw this out there. I searched a lot of the posts on here last night and it seems like building my own harness is doable. I have some basic electrical knowledge and ive done stereos and stuff. I am sure I could build it and ad my additional accessories with a little time and patience and do a nice clean job but is it worth it? I know it would save a couple bucks but thats not necessarily my concern, just wondering what the consensus is. Take the time and do it right, or spend the money and do it right now? Thanks for the input!

Ah! So that probably explains why I have 3 wires crammed into each terminal on the ignition switch.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / CP Performance wiring harness
« on: August 30, 2016, 08:12:06 PM »
So I'm going to just rewire the boat. I had some electrical issues at the avi with wires breaking so I'm thinking a short term patch isn't the solution here, thanks to the SCJB crew for jumping in and getting me through the weekend!

I'm going to order this kit from CP but is there anything I should know or any heads up before I gut this thing.

2 issues i already see are 1, this kit has no wiring for the lights, not that they worked anyways. And 2, I have dual tanks and there is a switch on the dash which switches the fuel tank gauge between the two. I'm sure I'm going to have to modify it but thought I'd ask first!

I ordered the ml-181 points conversion kit for the Mallory distributors. Is the ballast resistor not used in this setup? Thanks!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: 460 Ford fuel pump
« on: July 12, 2016, 08:00:46 PM »
So I picked up the new fuel pump and I'm working on the vent. I couldn't find a 3" arrestor w/ barb fitting. The 4" won't fit under my hatch. So I got creative in the plumbing dept. do yo think this will work? I have it so if it vents fuel it will pour down into the carb flooding the motor, in theory right? What do you guys think?

Doh! What about this one? You can see the nipple with the cover on it on the base of the carb

Is this where the vent hose should go to?

It does! I learn something new everyday. I don't this carb is marine or has the barb. I'll look closer. The Holley 830 does but it needs a major overhaul. Might be time to send that into the shop.

Thanks GT. It was just laying on the intake. I'm not quite sure where it was supposed to go. That's what I read online. I have a Holley 750. Is it supposed to go to the carb?

Finished wiring up the removable ground pounder for the cruiser. Time to build some cup holders then on to carpet.

Fuel pump burned out on me. The vent tube melted causing the pump to fail. After some research over the weekend it looks like this carter 0-2208 is made from unobtanium. I did find a rebuild kit that I ordered this morning. Just kicking around options and I want to stay mechanical. Is the clay smith worth the price and plumbing in a regulator? Pro's con's etc...

Also the vent never ran to the arrestor and the arrestor with the barb is only available in 4" and won't fit under the hatch. Thinking about getting creative with some fittings on the 3" to make it work.

Boat is a 79 Nordic with a closed hatch. Thanks for the input!

I just got the optima blue 34dm today. Dual purpose so it's good for starting and deep cell applications like stereos etc. just put  in the new high torque starter today and turned the key and she spun it like there's no tomorrow. 175 shipped from streetside auto. I have the same motor
