Project Boats For Sale / SOLD - 1975 Spectra 19
« on: April 18, 2018, 09:07:01 AM »
I am selling my jet boat project. I bought this 1975 Spectra 19' boat 2 years ago and have had engine issues with it ever since. The first year I couldn't get the engine to run properly and ended up damaging the engine. Oil pressure flat lined and loud screeching happened shortly after. Got discouraged so I towed it out to my parents house to store it for a year. Then got some motivation so I purchased a rebuilt 454 BBC to install and tracked down all the parts to do so but never got the chance to install the engine. Now I don't have the space or much time to work on the boat unfortunately and am reluctant to sell but I don't have a place to store the boat for much longer so I need to get rid of it.

The boat is currently fully put together with the damaged Olds 455. The 454 BBC is sitting on a stand in my garage in the same condition I bought it in.

I am asking $3,000 for the boat as is or $6,000 for the entire project. I have the pink slip in hand and registration is up to date. DM or text @ 9o9.936.328o

Here are the details for everything:

~Boat~($5,300 invested)
- 1975 Spectra 19' ($4,250)
- 455 Olds(motor needs rebuilt)
- thru transom exhaust
- Edelbrock 800 cfm
- Jacuzzi jet pump with an American Turbine energizer kit
- manual place diverter (+$650)
- MSD ready to run distributor (+$400)

~Engine~($3,350 invested)
- 454 BBC (+$2,500)
- 14015445 block (1978-1990 - 454 truck engine - 2 or 4 bolt)
- 353049 Large oval port heads (Bored .030 over)
- RV Speed Pro mild cam shaft
- Sealed Power pistons and rings
- Clevite bearings
- Aluminum Cyclone intake manifold (1965-90 oval port, p/n:53000)
- Edelbrock 600 cfm carburetor (p/n:1406 0417, 600cfm w/ electric choke)
- MSD Street Fire HEI 8362 distributor
- Accel HEI super coils 140005
- Delphi MF0068 Fuel pump
- logs and snails, engine mounts, oil pan, misc (+$850)

In the end I am invested in about $9,000 when factoring in all the misc stuff like LED trailer lights, stainless steel bimini joints, etc. so I know I won't be seeing much of that back.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / BBC Newbie Help
« on: August 22, 2017, 08:19:11 AM »
Hey all, as you can tell from my username I am new to the game. Picked up a freshly rebuilt 454 and am in the process of getting it ready to drop into my Spectra 19. It was built for a camaro but I am in the process of converting it for my boat. So far I know that I need the following:
- logs & snails
- motor mounts
- 4 point bell housing
- low mount alternator bracket
- water pump block off plates
- water hoses
Also its not a must yet but eventually a MSD distributor and ignition system.

In the research I've done I believe it is a Gen IV 454 that came out of a truck? The Block number is 14015445 and the heads are 353049.

I know I have a lot of work ahead of me but if anyone has advice, tips, suggestions, or even parts I can buy anything would help.

Topock / Laughlin / Local Boat Shop Recommendations? (455 Olds)
« on: May 31, 2017, 09:29:48 AM »
I have a 1975 Spectra 19 with an Olds 455 in it that I am wanting to have looked at/potentially rebuilt. Does anyone know of good boat shops in the Bullhead/Fort Mohave area or even in Havasu that are familiar with olds?

UPDATE: I found another code on the engine block 396021F (accidentally was looking on the heads previously) which according to online sources is a 1968 to 1972 455 so that's one problem solved. Anyone have any suggestions on shop manuals for this engine and which specific holly carb to get that would work best?

Alright, Im a newbie to all this so sorry for asking stupid questions in advance. I recently picked up my first boat about a month ago! (have only owned stand-up jet ski’s, sea-doo’s, & a wave runner (follow me on insta: @classic_jetskis)). It is a 1975 Spectra 19' w/ a "freshly rebuilt" 455 olds engine with jacuzzi wj pump & American Turbine energizer kit. Picked it up from a lady selling it for her husband so I do not have all the information or history I was hoping to have when buying it. Took it out for its maiden voyage after some minor maintenance, ran strong up until I reached around 35mph (forgot to look at the RPMs...rookie move) when I believe the secondary flaps open it then bogged down and sounded like it was backfiring until I let off. Did this a few more times to see if there was a barrier I had to get over to get into the higher RPMs until it ramped down and died.

Where I am struggling:

The Engine: 1975 455 Olds? I was told this but after having engine issues and doing some more research I am not 100% sure on what model & year it is. It has an engine block code of A with a number 383821 and is painted a light blue. When looking this up it comes back as a 1965 400 or 425. Other than that all I've found out is compression is ~140 psi and it had ACDelco R46SZ spark plugs (equivalent plugs: If you have a way to find out that I have not tried or if there are more obvious signs please let me know.

The Carb: 800cfm Edelbrock? Based on what the seller told me, the color of connections, and look I believe it is a thunder series 800cfm with a manual choke. Unfortunately the serial/part number is not located on the outside of the front mounting flange like where it should be. Other than that I do not know what jets or tuning springs it has, just reset the secondary flap spring tension back to factory settings. If there is a way to measure the size of card or visual signs, again please let me know.

If anyone could help to identify, any thoughts on how to get into the higher RPMs and/or just general engine advice it would be much appreciated! I am already considering getting a 650 or 750 edelbrock since everywhere I look says the 800s are more trouble than good. I am just wanting a reliable ( ;D lol ) engine/carb setup to start with before I do any major mods. Thanks for the help!
