The No Wake Zone / "Make the Forum Great Again" Project Thread Contest!
« on: January 05, 2023, 07:44:06 PM »
Make The Forum Great Again!

The Forum on SoCal Jet Boats have been around since 2006. There is over 16 years of information and knowledge that has been contributed by many members over the years to create this vast knowledge base of jet boat information. Since the conception of the SoCal Jet Boats Facebook Group, the forums have slowed down quite a bit even though there are still a handful of diehards holding out (we love you guys!), but we want to pump some life back into the forum with a Project Thread Contest!

While we are in the off season, let's get those projects going! Maybe your winter project is in full swing. Maybe you need some motivation to get your project going. Whether you're just swapping in new cables or you're doing a major renovation or upgrade, we want to see what you're up to and how you're doing it!

The Best Project Thread on the forum gets a $500 Gift Card redeemable in the SoCal Jet Boats Online Speed Shop!

Rules
  • Each Project Thread on the SoCal Jet Boats Forum is judged separately. Make only one (1) project thread per project.
  • Project Threads are to be posted in the Projects Section on the SoCalJetBoats.com Forum here: https://www.socaljetboats.com/projects/
  • Pictures/details/descriptions/instructions must be posted on the forum within the project thread's comments.
  • Only Project Threads created between 1/1/2023 and 3/31/2023 are eligible.
  • Contest ends on 3/31/2023 at midnight PST.
  • Judging will be based on picture of details, project substance, scope of detail, instruction, information/links to where tools, materials, parts can be purchased, creativity of project, etc.
  • Do not post the pictures/information directly on social media. Put it all into your thread and share a link to your thread on social media.
  • Promote your project thread on social media by posting a link to your progressing project thread (ex: Check out my latest progress on my project!)
  • Don't forget! The SoCal Jet Boats Forum has a Mobile App to make uploading and managing the pictures of your thread easier. Search for "SoCal Jet Boats" in your app store. Best of all, it's FREE!
  • The winner will receive an electronic gift card in a form of a digital code that can only be entered into the SoCal Jet Boats Speed Shop during checkout, to be redeemed for merchandise only available in the SoCal Jet Boats Speed Shop located at https://parts.socaljetboats.com. The gift card code has no cash value and cannot be exchanged, traded or sold.

The No Wake Zone / Email Notifications are working again
« on: December 31, 2022, 04:10:13 PM »
Email notifications for PM's and post replies died some time in the past few months. I finally was able to look into it and get it fixed.

That being said, there is a ton of accounts pending activation. I will be re-sending activation emails here shortly which might bring an influx of new traffic here.

Let me know if you guys see any other bugs/issues.

Let's make the SCJB Forum Great Again!

« on: August 25, 2022, 03:27:39 PM »
For anyone interested, Laughlin Marina (the big building with the blue roof) is opening up their launch ramp to use this weekend. The facility itself is closed for business, but the ramp will be available this weekend. It's $20/day and is decent when the water levels are low. They just said the weeds in the water might be a bit excessive when the water is low. It's a short idle from this ramp to the area where we will be in Bay Bay.

« on: August 19, 2022, 03:29:07 PM »
This year's One Hot Summer Weekend event will be held in Back Bay near Laughlin Marina on August 27th, 2022. The Avi is still not allowing events. We hope to be able to return there again soon!

**REMINDER: The entire area within the Laughlin Marina is a no wake zone and is strictly enforced!

SoCal Jet Boats
'One Hot Summer Weekend' Event
Our Annual 'One Hot Summer Weekend' event is coming up this weekend! Since the Avi is still not permitting events due to COVID protocols, we will be hanging out once again up at Back Bay which is located in Laughlin Marina just north of Big Bend State Park.

We want to remind and reiterate  to everyone that the area in Laughlin Marina is a strictly enforced no wake zone. This area is a wildlife preserve and there is signs marking areas where there is no motorized boats allowed. All laws of the waterway are strictly enforced - including drinking and driving.

A map of where we will be in Back Bay can be found below.

Launch Ramp Information

Big Bend State Park: Launch Fee is $25 ($20 for NV Residents). It's been stated that they have been filling up and restricting access once full so if you are using this park to launch from, I suggest you get there early. If you get there before the attendant is in the booth, please be honorable and use the envelope to drop your launch fee at the booth.

Lazy Harrys: Launch is free, but parking is VERY limited. If the water level is low, you probably wont be able to exit the channel until the water level comes up. The restaurant still remains closed at this time for renovations.

Rotary Park: Launch fee is $25, ample parking.

Avi Resort & Casino: Launch is free for hotel guests. Also, the beach is still roped off from parking your boat on the beach. So if you launch there, be aware there is no where to comfortably park your boat while you go park your truck. They do not allow any boats at all to enter their cove.

Riverside Casino / Laughlin Public Ramp: Launch is free, decent ramp, but you are launching into current and dealing with the PWC traffic near the casinos.

Bayshore Inn: Launch is free for hotel guests. Launches right into back bay.

Laughlin Marina : There is a launch ramp at Laughlin Marina. A few people were able to launch there for our May event. I do not have any information at this time if they will allow anyone to launch there for this upcoming event.

***Be aware, like any section of the river, there are underwater hazards along this stretch of river. We are not responsible if you damage your boat hitting rock or sand bars, logs, etc. The water levels fluctuate on the river, so something that might be visible in the morning, might be just under the surface in the evening. If you are unfamiliar with the area, ask someone for advice or follow another experienced boater.

Water Release Schedule

Davis Dam Projected Water Release Schedule can be found here:
https://www.usbr.gov/lc/region/g4000/hourly/DavisParkerSchedules.pdf
This schedule is updated daily and only shows the next 5 days release schedule. The times are based on Mountain Standard Times and are subject to change at any time. Releases listed on the schedules are only estimates and can vary from the values listed. Boaters should exercise caution while navigating along the river.

The No Wake Zone / Re: Rudder
« on: August 01, 2022, 11:13:40 AM »
On a smaller boat like your sprint, you wont notice much difference with or without it. Learning how to control a boat at idle speed can be tricky. The main thing is to be patient. You wont get immediate reaction from your actions. When you turn the wheel, give it some time to react to it.....and out of the hole shot, make sure you have your wheel straight before you gun it.

I hope to make this event with the Baja. It's my first weekend in town. All these warnings about the law is giving me pause.

In all honesty, it's not that bad. You probably wont see a cop all weekend on this part of the river. I just have to put it out there to keep the knuckleheads in check. Looking forward to seeing you out there!

SoCal Jet Boats returns to Big River for Fathers Day Weekend on June 18th, 2022! Some of our best times and greatest memories of the earlier years were held on this stretch of river. Launch at the Big River Community Beach or other local RV parks. Local bar/restaurant is Dumas Walkers where everyone hangs out in the evenings.

Fair Warning: Local authorities (tribal) are very strict on drinking and driving. Be sober or don't drive!

Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/453609793062402/

This stretch of river can be unforgiving in some areas. If you are unfamiliar with this area, please drive with caution or follow a fellow boater for direction.

This is the third stop for the SoCal Jet Boats 2022 Summer Tour.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are so excited to be going back to Big River for Fathers Day Weekend!

The Big River Community Park will be where the majority of people will launch from. The launch ramp is a bit tough as it is directly in the current of the river. If you see someone struggling, please lend a hand. Big River has graciously reduced the launch fee from $25 to $20 for all SoCal Jet Boats members who are going to be launching at the Community Park. The park has been fighting financial difficulties with the CRIT shutdown of the river due to COVID and increasing costs of operations. Brittney and I encourage everyone to donate to the park if possible. We take pride in supporting those who support us. Let's make sure this community stays open and helps take care of each other so we can continue doing what we all love, boating!

The Park has been an important part of the community and has been the site for many weddings, celebrations of life, BBQs, parties and events since 1975! We look forward to having more events here.

Like previous years, we will hang out at the community park for a bit, then make stops at the sand bars up river (water levels permitting) then ultimately spend the day up at "Pee Pee Cove", which is on the CA side of the river, just below the Bluewater Dam.

For those of you who have been around longer, but haven't been to Big River in awhile, unfortunately the Big River Inn and Catfish Cantina are no longer open. The Local Bar and Restaurant Dumas Walker is still open and if you are up for some Karaoke, lets see what you got! This will be a great spot for everyone to hang out in the evening.

All waterway and on-road laws will be enforced. Be aware that the CRIT police patrol the area. Do not drink and drive.

Here is a map of the town of Big River. Circled in RED is the Big River Community Park. The entrance is down the hill from the intersection of Del Rey Drive and Rio Mesa Drive. Circled in YELLOW is the ramp most people use in the park. Parking is limited so please be mindful of others and don't take up a ton of room. Circled in BLUE is Dumas Walkers Bar & Grill. They have food, drinks, and Karaoke. It's where most people will be hanging out in the evenings. Reminder: Tribal police heavily patrols this area and have a zero tolerance for drinking and driving.

Here is a Google Map Pin Drop if you need specific directions directly to the ramp area.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/x5zJfoh9y43UTWaU8

Here is a map of the river between the Big River Community Park (Circled in RED) and the Bluewater Damp (Circled in BLUE)
There are a few sand bars circled in ORANGE (water level permitting) that people hang out at, but mostly everyone heads up to "Pee Pee Cove" which is appropriately circled in YELLOW.
There are several rock bars and shallow areas in Big River (no different than any other section of the river). Please use caution and follow someone if you aren't familiar with the area.

We look forward to seeing you all there!
