Agree with Brad on the clay smith. A nice U.S. made pump that’s fully rebuildable.

Yes, does require a dead head regulator which is fairly simple to set up.

A few more

Nice rigging so far. I assume this mini day will be run without an engine cover? I ask because I  have a mini day too and often think about future interior options.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: Reverse bucket cable

If you have access to the boat and cable you can probably get part number type of info off the cable jacket.

Doubt you’ll get lucky enough to get the info you need off the length of cable between the transom and jet so You may have to lay under the dash to look at the side nearest to the shifter to get a look at the other end.

Long story short, you can probably get the length info off the existing cable.

Love seeing this old thread resurfaced. Here’s mine. She’s a ‘78 and has what appears to be a pretty much stock 460.

Try moving the upper fixed mount location to that bolt hole that’s a little higher and to the left on the head. Then maybe the adjustment bracket will be able to mount to the timing cover.

I also have some great ideas to help with the oil filter question you posed.

Look closely at the pic below. I was using a 90 degree relocation piece made by Ford Racing, really nice piece.

Hey Joe! I’m sure you remember the set made for my CP back in 2018.

To your first question, we totally skipped those two bolt holes on the back of the motor. We only utilized the ones around the outer perimeter.

As for mechanical fuel pumps, when it comes to a Ford the best one on the market is hands down the Clay Smith mechanical. When my front plate was built there was a nice window made for my pump. Let me see if I can drum up some pictures for you.

I remember the day they were filming pulling the motor out of the truck and putting it into the boat in the parking lot of the boat ramp at Elsinore” it was the same day as the Tom Papp Memorial  if I remember correctly

It sure was a Tom Papp memorial event... Probably around 2010. I was the unlucky guy that he asked to provide a truck to help them launch the Rogers once it was ready and they realized they no longer had a working truck lol.

Good times.

Is there any chance your plug wires are cross firing? It sounds silly I know but I’ve had it happen before.

Take some zip ties and make sure they are nicely separated and not laying on each other.

Jet Pumps / Re: Loader Question
« on: April 08, 2021, 03:51:48 PM »
I’ve run loaders just like that for years. If you got it around the Orange County area I’m guessing the place it came from has put out many similar units before, again only a guess.

As for paint, you may want to get something else on it to prevent rust, and maybe even a bright color so rust and or cracks would stand out upon visual inspection, maybe a bright white paint? Otherwise put it on with good high quality hardware and nylock nuts on thru bolts.

Check your loader and related hardware periodically depending on how often you use your not. You’re checking the loader for cracks and hardware for becoming loose.

Looks like a decent deal over on OfferUp. Motor clearly came out of a v-drive but shouldn’t be too hard to swap over to a jet boat set up.

Just wondering if they were just F’ing with Lost Lake?

Gotcha. Nope, the crit “West bank” territory runs the Ca side from big river to the dam just north of Blythe. It’s my understanding they’ve locked our all parks within that section.

Yes they do. We have a place in water wheel.

We’ve been locked out since last March. The stay at hime resolution (their official name for it) was temporarily lifted in sept, oct, nov and dec and then put back into effect on Christmas Eve and has been in place since.

Was just re-upped thru the end of March.

Why do you ask?

Hey Nick, I have the blue and white one I think your speaking of. Yes mine does the same thing as yours around 3000 rpm. 4000 rpm rides real nice! My set up is stock other than a new place diverter.

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats

Thanks for the reply, sounds like we’re in the same “boat” on this topic. I’ve noticed as soon as I get the RPMs up over 3500 my boat also takes a nice set and stops porpoising.

Can anyone offer any first hand info on the benefits setting the pump back and adding a shoe and ride plate to a Hallett mini day?

I see that blue and white one on here, not sure who the guy is but maybe someone could tag him in this thread.

Hulls / New Rouse 19' Gullwing
« on: September 22, 2020, 09:04:53 PM »
Let’s see some pics. I bet someone here knows the boat.

My boat was the 11TH one out of the 19’ Rouse mold. I got mine in December 2012. Jason made 10 true Rouse boats then sold the mold to Bill Scotten, I bought the first one that Bill built (via Joel at Fiberglass Concepts) using the Rouse mold.

Your last picture looks like a standard Hallett setting to me.  I don't see any glaring issues.

The HPH would have been my choice also.  The HPH doesn't lower the thrust point nearly that of a full droop.  I feel the best feature is the internal shape.

Did you drive it much before changing the bowl, droop, and diverter?  Basically, is this a new issue that has manifested itself since your upgrades?

Good feedback on intake, I had guessed it was likely the stock location and likely setting as well, probably never touched since it was first built in ‘78.

Unfortunately, I did not drive it before the HPH and diverter were added so I can’t say whether or not this condition derived from those changes.

What are your thoughts on the loader? Could swapping that out provide any change for my porpoise issue?

Here’s a better pic of the intake. Turns out it actually has some kind of loader already.

Interesting thought about taking the HPH housing off.
