Hulls / 1977 Spectra 19 hull advice
« on: May 20, 2017, 11:05:21 AM »
So I have been told in the past that 1/4 stringer hulls will never be fast boats.  That not only are they weaker without the full length support but were built with something called Hook.  This hook was meant to drive the nose down at higher speeds to improve handling.  Driving the nose down is the opposite of what we want tho, to go fast.  My Spectra is a 1/4 stinger with a floor.  I was curious on how much "hook" I actually have so I crawled underneath with my 6' level and found something interesting.  It's completely flat.  From the transom all the way to the front where it starts curving upwards.  I checked from left to right on both sides of all 4 bunks.  So my question is, am I checking this wrong orrrr would my hull be a good canidate for some added full stringers?  I don't plan on ever selling my boat and I think with a built 460, Berkeley pump and full stringers it can be a pretty well rounded cruiser/haul ass boat.  What do yall think?

Don't know what to do next.  Thinking about chroming the scoop? Need some ideas on alternative to 4" rubber exhaust hose.  Want to keep my manifolds and maybe add chrome pipe somehow but don't know how to mount it other that fabricate some flanges

Thanks AzTom and I will be heading to Parker next weekend for Memorial how is pleasant only been there to work on the cell tower

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats mobile app
Oh right on!  And pleasant is fun.  It can really beat up our little boats but if u go early and get off around 1 or 2 u should alright.
A lot of big boats out there.
But the water is really clean and it's only an hour away so I can't complain!

Jet Pumps / Re: Pump work
« on: May 11, 2017, 08:00:28 PM »
I did, went with Dan Nelson and I'm glad. Thank you for the recommendation. He did a lot of work on my pump for a very fair price. My boat pulls way harder than last year.

My pump was trashed and needed a bit of machine work to get it back in shape. Added an inducer, stuffer, detail, and cleaned up the impeller.

Right on where is he located?
Maybe I will try him in the future

Jet Pumps / Re: Pump work
« on: May 10, 2017, 05:53:13 PM »
What's up guys, I'm trying to find out who the pump guy is in Arizona. I've got a dominator pump that lost the wear ring isolator and did quite a bit of damage to my bowl, shaft, and impeller. I'm trying to figure out what parts are junk and what can be machined out.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

When I lived in Goodyear I just drove out to Blythe.  Place is called River Speed and Sport.
Guys name is Brad.
Does good work and was a pretty quick turn around.
Didn't try to up sell me on anything I didn't need.  Was very straight forward which I liked.
Cost me about 1100 for complete overhaul kit, bushings, bearings, stainless wear ring, new impeller etc.
Don't know if that's good or bad but it's what I paid lol

Random Boat Parts For Sale / Re: Big block ford parts
« on: May 10, 2017, 05:39:20 PM »
I've got some bbf parts I need to get rid of not sure what it's all worth and I don't think it's worth a fortune so please make me an offer I have a set of heads one is a c9ve the other is a d0ve (69,70) I have a block which is a d1ve (71) stock oil pan pump and pickup four point Hardin marine motor mount setup may have more things as I finish my build but this is it for now feel free to make an offer on here or call or text 8052088601 my name is corbin

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats mobile app
U may not have a fortune but those c9ve stamped heads are worth something!
I believe they're off an old 429 and have the same stud pattern to mount to a 460.
They are closed chambered high compression heads. Yes they are iron and heavy but will add a good amount of power to a motor!
Definitely not scrap metal and for someone that's looking to do a more restoration type build that might be exactly what they're looking for.
Good luck

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: Sub floor vs stringers
« on: May 10, 2017, 03:09:18 PM »
Thanks. At this point I'm not shooting for insane speeds. If it will do high 60s or or 70 I'll bee happy. Maybe in the future when funds are a little better I might throw a blower on it which is why I'm building this engine as beefy as I can. I'm definitely going to start doing the inside now though. I started a build thread already on it. Just haven't had much time to work on it. I'll get back on it soon though.

Welcome. This is a cool forum with lots of nice guys willing to help and not bash you. Fellow noon also. I just picked up a 19 myself. How fast does yours run and how much power you putting down. Trying to get an idea of how mine will do when I build the motor.

Sent from my SM-G920T using SoCal Jet Boats mobile app
Hey man that's awesome.  No one has bashed me yet lol  As far as top speeds the motor was just rebuilt and still in break in.  It's set rich and honestly I can't even run it wide open it just wants to bog down.  I need to get down to havasu and get the carbs tuned properly and at that point I can give u a better number.
As for the motor it's all stock othan than a mild cam.  Bored .40 over.  It's a Ford 460.  Msd dizzy.  Twin holly 750 DP carbs.  On a tunnel ram i take.  Eddie marine center rise exhaust.
Pump is rebuilt with stainless wear ring, aluminum A impeller and loader with place diverter.
If I were to guess by feel I'm hitting around 45 right now and that is not floored.  A very easy going 2700 rpm.  Could be faster but without gps I don't want to throw out false claims.
I think with a mild built motor around 5 to 600 horse and a tight pump you could see speeds easy in the high 60s.
