Audio / Hidden Sound bar
« on: April 03, 2022, 08:06:52 AM »
So I know quite a bit about car audio but boats are a different world.

Currently running 6 Jl audio m6 speakers  on the 800/8 amp and a 10 inch sub 1000w amp. And it sounds great in the boat but it doesnt project words far as I would like

My years at the sand bar I have noticed the wake board boats with the tower speakers project sound the best. Im thinking I want to try something similar. Wet sounds makes a sound bar that I want to mount hidden up in my Bimini powered by my 2 extra channels that are currently unused. Itll be on the inside and will be able to swivel front, down or back depending on  where the sandbar is

Jet Pumps / Re: Weld repair dominator cast aluminum impeller?

It?s been on my todo list lol it sounds like I better just replace the impeller. It?s been getting worse and worst the last 2 years but I didn?t tear into it until last week. Thank you!!

There was .105? gap between my impeller and wear ring not the .025 I?m supposed to have.  I dont know how to tell if I?m having cavitation? (In the picture of the leading edge I lightly stoned to remove a little burr, and the trailing edge is sharp.)

A flame spray or cold spray could be done but I?d be concerned that it would want to flake off under the stress. We have lots of lathes and I might turn a stainless sleeve just to see how secure it is when I press it on.

I reached out to jet boat performance and will probably just be replacing the impeller but if I don?t I?ll write down my process and share it with everyone here.

Thank you everyone for your time and input!! I appreciate it

I?m not sure why it broke, I assume I sucked up a rock or stick. There was no vibration and was running fine. I only took it apart to replace the wear ring (my rpm was rising). It?s only on that 1 vein and the crescent shape crack goes all the way threw on 1 side and is slightly bent. But with a brass hammer it won?t pop back into its original position.

As far as adding a sleeve to the aluminum impeller I think it would be fairly easy to do and I imagine stainless on stainless would wear down much slower with the small sand particles? Does a stainless impeller last longer then an aluminum one all things bring equal?

I never thought about the road grime and will definitely start doing that. But I do all the other tips

Thanks for the response mash on it!!  I work at an aerospace welding company so having it welded was my cheep/lazy option, I didn?t see new under 500$ And couldn?t source a reliable used one but I will definitely check out jet boat performance. I?m probably making 400-450 hp is there any benefit with going to a stainless impeller?

Whats up everyone Im new to the group, Im running a 21 open bow kachina boat  with a 460 Ford on a dominator 12-s pump but I have a few questions about the impeller.  1) I want to weld repair my impeller (see pictures) has anyone done this? and do you know the type of aluminum it is?
2) is is possible to press on a stainless sleeve onto the the impeller across from the wear ring so it does not wear down so quickly?
