Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Re: timming settings on a midly built 454

You haven't said if you are running a jet or v-drive.  In a jet getting total advance quicker will not hurt you.  I am running a 468BBC with a comp cams extreme marine hyd roller with HEI.  I have it set up to get total advance at 2200 rpm and have the total timing at 36deg. When at idle 1100 rpm timing is at 16deg with the weakest advance springs available for an hei dizzy. Depending on your cam choice will determine idle timing needed........Just my 2 cents

OK smoken deal on the build  what kind of MPH and at what RPM?

Only got 2 hours on build not ready to HIT IT yet but it sure feels good when so far probably going to change to a b impeller next to get some more rpm out if it as well as soon as I have it broke in I would like to get at least 5 hours before I start turning over 5k rpm

Jet Pumps / Re: Need help reinstalling intake
« on: July 06, 2010, 01:00:02 PM »
Thank you Lucky Now how to prepare the hull and intake. Do I sand the hull area and the intake flange? i was advised to chisel the old epoxy out by someone and now I read where heat applied works well to so I guess I will try to heat the remaining parts off I did get into the fiberglass of the hull in 2 places (very minor) I will probably put fiber glass resin to repair these areas. Should I paint the intake flange with epoxy or appliance paint prior to installing it I know prep for paint is impotant not to worry I have been custom painting for over 30 years. Should I coat the hull area with paint as well I am afraid if I leave it sanded then if I ever need to remove it again it will be a b*tch.

Ok so I checked the intake and the flange that the jet mounts to is 4 deg angled to the hull mounting flange this points the jet downward 4 deg from the hull when the intake is mounted level to the hull bottom SO to get the intake level with the hull bottom I need to have 4 deg on the jet mounting flange this will put the rear of the jet flange  lower than the front of the flange
