That is what really gets me. My boat is original. This is the way it was built.  :banghead:

Gt Jets, I was looking at those. I was tempted to give them a try. Were you saying that you might have a pair you wanted to sell? Feel free to send me some pics. playgrundy@yahoo.com     Thanks.

Events / Clear Lake Minnesota Boating Event June 26
« on: June 21, 2010, 07:06:31 PM »
Sat. June 26 there will be a day of boating on Clear Lake. A couple of buoys will be dropped at 1000 ft. and there will happen to be a pontoon with flags at one end if anybody would want to test their rigs.
There will also be a radar gun present for testing purposes.
Clear Lake is North of New Ulm and South of Gibbon a few miles. The launch is located on the northwest side of the lake. Easiest to do is to turn south at Gibbon and drive til you see the launch on your left......
There are a few new additions to the boats running this year and I think that a few classes will have new competition for the top places. There may be some of these new setups at the lake that day.....

Are there different size snails? What is the inside diameter & the out side diameter of the mounting flange? If they will bolt up to my manifolds I will take them. Thanks.

I have Hardin logs. I'm looking for some used snails/risers so I can run threw transom exhaust on my jet boat.

Minnesota Stationary Idle Test. Taken at least 4 feet above the water and at least 4 feet behind the transom of the boat. 86 dBA... Looks like I will have to go the tt route.

When I was told I was too loud, the first words out of my mouth were I have baffles in them. He did not care. He stated that the fine would be $300 and he could ban me from the water until I make my boat legal and have it inspected & tested by a sheriff.

10
I'm running water through them. I have baffles in them that were purchased from CP Performance they are part #410-284402 HP Silencer. The sheriff tested them with a meter but I looked up the law and it says that the test shall be done 4 feet back from the exhaust at idle, my idle was a bit high that day. He was nearly in my pipes when he took his reading. They tested at 125 decibles, legal here is 89db I believe. The DNR officer never even heard it run, he was going by a complaint that he got of a loud boat.

I'm running a BBF 460ci. with Hardin logs and Rewarder over the transom pipes with baffles. I have been told by a sheriff who tested my decible level that my boat is too loud so I got a warning ticket & I also got a warning ticket from a DNR officer. I'm tempted to buy some used snails & run my exhaust through the transom. My boat has never had threw transom exhaust. Any help with my issue will be greatly appreciated. I really want to get on the water but I do not want a $300 fine. If someone has some used snails they want to sell I might be interested or if anyone knows of a baffle that will get me in the legal range that would be great. Thanks.

Do you still have them? I'm interested.

You might also have a problem with your accelerator pump. I had this same problem at the begining of this boating season. A needle in my Holly carb was sticking and not allowing my accererator pump to squirt fuel.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Fuel tank vent problems.
« on: May 27, 2010, 04:43:18 PM »
I have a jet boat with a fuel tank mounted in the bow of the boat. It has a factory vent mounted on the boat with a 5/8 fuel line running to hit. When I'm using the boat I ocasionaly have fuel coming out of the vent. Is there any way to prevent this? It is starting to stain my boat :-( any help would be greatly apreciated.

Tomorrow I'm going to check the gap of the points. Any ideas what they should be set at? I have checked the plugs & they look great. I gapped the plugs at .035, They were at .045.

16
Well, I replaced the fuel filter by the tank, even though it was only 2 weeks old, & I had much improvment today. Its not perfect, but much better. Next I'm going to replace all the fuel line and I'm going to run 2 new upgraded fuel filters. Wish me luck. I have my fingers crossed. Thanks for everyones help.

17
I have 2 brand new inline fuel filters. 1 by the tank and one by the carb. I put a new fuel pump in it. I do not have a fuel pressure guage.

18
The carb that came with the boat is the original 0-80318-1 600 CFM Four Barrel Marine Carburetor,  Model 4160; Electric Choke; Vacuum Secondary; Calibrated for Big Block Block 460 Ford Marine Engines. The second one I borrowed from a friend off of his performance street car is a Holly 650 double pumper. I just do not think it is carb problem. Maybe I'm vapor locking. My fuel tank is vented.  :banghead:

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460ci Jet Boat boggs and dies. :-(
« on: May 18, 2010, 05:45:15 PM »
1 month ago I purchased a 1976 Holmes Horizon Jet Boat. It has a 460ci. engine and berkley jet drive. Before I put it in the water I had to rebuild the carb. When I put it in the water it did not run very well. I checked the cap & rotor & I checked the plugs for proper gap. It ran a little better but when I punch it it boggs and dies. It then takes a bit for it to run again. It idles perfectly & has no misses. I since have tried a new fuel pump and replaced the carb with a known working carb and it still does the same thing. I take it out run it at 3000 to 4000 rpm and it runs great, as soon as I punch it, it will take off and then bogg and die. Is my coil giving me problems or maybe my distributor or the ballist resistor? It has a marine points distributor. I'm a small time mecahnic and this thing has me baffled. It never skips a beat until I punch it. After that it starts hard and boogs at low rpm. after waiting for a minute or 2 it starts right up and runs great until I punch it. Any help would be much apreciated.
