Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Nitrous Set-Up
« on: February 11, 2016, 06:28:48 PM »
I decided to move these posts so I can find them easier...

I got this in the mail a couple days ago. I am going to add a 175 HP shot.

78Southwind
What's the best way per cubic dollar to retard the timing? I currently have a 6M-2 box. I have been looking at the Programmable Timing Computer since it's a good price but it looks like you have to lock out your distributor. I really don't want to lock out the timing. So now I am leaning towards the Digital Retard Control or a 6 plus. Any other ideas?

Also, I want to use my claysmith fuel pump (14 to 16 psi) to fuel both the main fuel system and the nitrous fuel system. I am looking at running two fuel regulators and dead head them at 6/7 psi. I also want to run a fuel safety switch on the nitrous fuel system. For the electrical, I am going to run a toggle switch to arm the nitrous system then a microswitch set for full throttle and a nitrous push button. Yada Yada... So does this sound good?

capogniracing
Just went/going through the same thing. I was thinking of a msd-6425 ignition and a msd- 8970 retard. A magnafuel 500 pump running both regulators. And I'm still gonna have locked out timing and a crank trigger. I would love to go with the Msd 6520 and think this is the best dollar for dollar but I need to be able to retard atleast 11 degrees and the 6520 only is capable to retard 9.9 which would work great for your set up. And maybe run a seperate fuel pump for nitrous to avoid a possible lean out. That's my 2 cents.

78Southwind
Ok, so you have to lock out your timing on the msd- 8970 retard box too. If I am running a fuel safety switch to the solenoids (say set 6 psi) should I really have to worry about a lean condition?

capogniracing
Andy gave me a full lock out dizzy and with a safety switch I would think your good to go. Those clay smith are around 140gph right??

jyeager
6 lbs is good for the safety switch. Start with retarding 2 degrees for every 50 hp shot of nitrous. That will give you a good base line for tuning. 👍👍👍👍
I don't like using the same fuel pump for both nitrous and motor but that's me. I use a Holley blue for the nitrous side and now a aeromotive with a bypass for the motor side.

78Southwind
I can see using a separate fuel system for racing but it just doesn't make sense to me for play. If you're running a safety switch then the nitrous won't fire unless you've got good fuel pressure. Maybe I will do some more homework and see what I find. I plan on running 78/78 fuel and nitrous jets with a 6°-8° retard. I am thinking about running one of my gunnel tanks with a mixture of 91/110 and just switch to that tank when I want to run a nitrous pass. Edelbrock says to use 92 octane pump gasoline or better with 175 HP shot.

jimpen
That jetting would be real fat.

78southwind
That's what came with the kit and what Edelbrock suggests.>>?

Flusher
What about when the fuel pressure drops as the demand increases after the N2O fires?

jyeager
I agree. i used the normal squared jetting 2 passes and dumped down the fuel side because it was so fat. It killed my plugs The recomended jetting from Edelbrock and NOS is a fat tune up for sure. Also spark plug gap plays a good role in the tune.

Interesting thanks...

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Ebay STAINLESS PERFORMANCE HEADERS
« on: July 31, 2015, 12:28:58 PM »
So it looks like I am going to have to replace one or both of my headers since one of them is rusted really bad. What you guys think about the stainless jet boat headers i keep seeing on ebay and the FB Jet Boat groups? It looks like they're sold individually and average average around mid $300. Anyone have any recommendations?

Jet Pumps / Pump Work
« on: December 08, 2014, 06:26:53 PM »
So I decided to get some pump work done on my Southwind since I had a rock do some damage to my impeller. I also had been feeling a slight vibration, so I went down and saw Chris at B 1 Racing. Chris measured the back side of my impeller and it was close to an A/B on one end and an A on the other side. I had Tom Papp detail the impeller about 10 years ago but I don't think he touched the back side of it. I never saw the impeller either since Tom Papp removed it and detailed it along with some other pump work he did for me back then. This impeller is the original impeller since before I bought the boat which is over 25 years ago (maybe the original owner did this). Has anyone seen any thing like this before? The backside of the blades have been grounded down too. Chris said it looks to be all hand done but he hasn't seen anything like it before. It's hard to tell on this picture because of the chip where the rock passed through (but you get the idea).

Hey Lower River Peeps

We're making a trip down to Martinez Lake from McIntyre Park (Blythe) and wanted to see if anyone else was interested in going.  I don’t know how much interest we will get with giving such short notice, but we will be making the trip on Saturday, September 19th.  With less water being released by the end of the summer, I felt the sooner we planned the trip the better.  The trip from McIntyre Park to Martinez Lake is estimated at about 65 miles.  Day use and launch ramp fees at McIntyre Park are $10. We will be leaving McIntyre Park between 9:00 to 9:15 AM.  For those that are interested the phone number is (760-922-8205) the address is (8750 E. 26th Ave, Blythe, CA 92225) and the website link is http://www.destinyrv.com/mcintyrervresort.htm. We made a trip similar to this about a month ago and we made it about 50 miles south of McIntyre Park before heading back to McIntyre Park.  For those that have never been down that way the scenery is completely beautiful.  There is a lot of interesting places to stop on the way down to Martinez too.

Between 10:00 to 10:30 AM the first stop will be at Walters Camp to meet up with some of the Lower River Peeps (BarryMac and Friends).  Waters Camp is estimated to be about 35 miles south of McIntyre Park.  On our last trip it took us about an hour to get to the gas dock from McIntyre Park which is about ¾ of a mile back in the Walters Camp channel.  The gas dock is open Thursday thru Monday and they only sell 91 octane.  The last time I was there they charged me $4.25 a gallon.  For those that are interested here is the phone number (760-854-3322) and address (2556 Walters Camp Rd, Palo Verde, CA 92266).

The trip gets real interesting after Walters Camp with green vegetation back dropped by chocolate mountains.  This area is also full of sandbars so you will want to keep a look-out for them.  The sandbars are pretty easy to see if you are looking for them and you can usually maneuver around them.  This trip is probably more appropriate for a PWC, Jet Boat or a Pontoon Boat.  However, I did see a Master Craft direct drive floating down the river in this area.  On our last trip we took the Sea Doo and we didn’t have a problem, we just drove straight over the sandbars.

About 15 to 20 miles south of Walters Camp is the Picacho State Recreation Area.  This area was an old gold mining town in the late 1800’s with about a 100 citizens.  The Picacho State Recreation Area has several boat-in-only camp grounds with bathrooms.  The following is a link to the parks map http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/641/files/PicachobrochureFINAL.pdf.  We will probably make our second stop at 4 S Beach, Carrizo or Paddlewheeler which are camp sites.  If we have time we might stop at Taylor Lake.  Our last stop is about 15 miles south of 4 S Beach and will be at Fishers Marina/Landing, I called today and they have a gas dock with a pretty good restaurant.  The following is the link to the Fisher’s Landing website http://fisherslandingresort.com/default.aspx.

Let me know what you guys think?

Lower River / McIntyre Park Mobile Home
« on: August 04, 2009, 01:42:50 PM »
Hey Guys
I was down at McIntyre Park this Monday and took some pictures of the Mobile Home I rented.  I don’t know if this is the right place to post this or not but I thought some of you would appreciate it since the park doesn’t have any pictures posted on their website.  The Mobile Home is a double wide (pretty big for a rental) with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.  It’s somewhat of a beater but hey it’s the river right.  The lot could easily fit 5 to 6 trucks including boat trailers and it rents for $120 a night.

Topock / Laughlin / Park Moabi Boating and Camping Trip July 2nd to the 6th
« on: February 03, 2009, 02:07:17 PM »
We are trying to put together another boating/camping trip at Park Moabi which is just south east of Needles California. There is no registration list and this is not a scheduled event just a boating/camping trip with friends. If you are interested in joining us at Park Moabi PM me and let me know.  We will be camping at site 15 on the Riverfront Peninsula side.  I have rented six hookup camping spots of the ten that were available.  There are currently only two hookup camping spots left.  So if you are interested, let me know as soon as possible so I can give you my information for payment.  As of Jan. 27th, 2009 there are no other available sites on the peninsula side.  However, there are camping sites available on the launch ramp side (non-peninsula).  If you want to camp on the launch ramp side you can make reservations by calling Park Moabi at 760-326-3831.  Also, you don’t have to be camping with us to enjoy our company, so if you staying local and just want to come down and hang out on the beach with us you're more than welcome.

The Colorado River Park Moabi Camping Trip will be from July the 2nd (arriving Thursday) thru the 6th (leaving Monday). The park charges $35 per RV for sites with hookups and $22 per night for sites without hookups. This price is per night for four nights Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a total cost of $140 per RV with hookups and $88 without hookups. Park Moabi has charged me $88 (four nights at $22) plus a reservation fee to reserve each camping spot. After you have sent me a check for $88 and once you get to Park Moabi they will charge you the balance. For example, I am getting hookups so my total charge will be $140 minus the $88 that I put down to reserve the camping spot which equals $52. My understanding is that tow vehicles and boats / trailers are included in that price but other vehicles will be charged an additional $22 per vehicle once you arrive at Park Moabi.

Camp site number 15 has the 2nd biggest beach and the most room for RV’s.  The site also has two entrances and plenty of boat parking.  There is 200' of river frontage (beach). Park Moabi also has unlimited tent camping if you prefer to tent camp.

Topock / Laughlin / AVI Special Deal / Get together
« on: August 21, 2008, 06:54:05 PM »
We're planning a boating trip on the traditional weekend of the Freeboard Challenged (the second weekend in October) which is October 10th, 11th and the 12th.  Though most of you may stay at the AVI we feel that meeting at Glass Beach (which is couple miles up river from the AVI) will allow for better water conditions for our low freeboard boats.  Feel free to use the AVI Real Deal codes to help reduce your reservation costs.  You can also upgrade from a standard room to a river view room for $10 per night.  If you’re stay for four nights you can combined the weekday and weekend deals but I believe you have to use another name (for example have your significant other call in for the other 2 night reservations).  See you guys there and make sure to put you name on the list.

Topock / Laughlin / Park Moabi Camping/Boating Trip
« on: June 09, 2008, 10:05:30 PM »
We are putting together a (Meet and Greet) or as I like to call it a good old boating/camping trip at Park Moabi which is just south east of Needles California. There is no registration list and this is not a scheduled event just a boating/camping trip with friends.

The Colorado River Park Moabi Camping Trip will be from September the 5th thru the 7th. The park charges $35 per RV for sites with hookups and $22 per night for sites without hookups. This price is per night for 3 nights Friday, Saturday and Sunday total cost is $105 per RV with hookups and $66 without hookups. Park Moabi will charge you $66 (three nights at $22) a night to reserve a site. Once you get to Park Moabi they will charge you the balance. For example, I am getting hookups so my total charge will be $105 minus the $66 that I put down to reserve the site which equals $39. My understanding is that tow vehicles and boats / trailers are included in that price but other vehicles will be charged an additional $22 per vehicle.

The camp site is site number 16 on the Riverfront Peninsula side which will hold at least 10 trailers. The camp site has 10 spots for hookups and there are currently 4 spots available. So we will need at least 4 other individuals to reserve a site so that we can hold the site for ourselves. The site can hold a couple more RV’s if someone is interested and doesn’t need hookups but again we need 10 reservations to hold the site to ourselves. Camp site number 16 has the 2nd biggest beach and the most room for RV’s. There is 200' of river frontage (beach). Park Moabi also has unlimited tent camping if you prefer to tent camp.

You can bring your own RV or you can rent trailers. There is a rental company onsite that has three trailers:

2. 2004 Aljo - 28 X 8 / sleeps 8 with three bunks

3. 1999 Sprinter - 28 X 8 / sleeps 5

Check in is 3:00 PM on Friday and check out is 1:00 PM on Monday.
