Boat Showcase / Anyone know this float?
« on: May 01, 2017, 07:06:51 pm »
I bought this 77 Challenger 19' the other week from some dude in L.A.  He said he bought it from a guy in Elsinore who was an electrician I guess.  Trying to find more info on the motor.  460 ford with tunnel ram and 2 quick fuel carbs.  Already set up for nitrous.  Has the ports on the back of the tunnel ram (capped) and a switch on the throttle pedal.  Sounds mean as hell just wanna know what it is and has in it and maybe a little history.  Dude I bought it from didnt know shit.

Ok im looking for a new boat.  Got 3-4k to spend.  I know im not going to get a bad ass boat for that but lets see what you got.  Wanting  a BBC/Berkeley set up but not set in stone.  Needs to seat at least 5.  Most of the stuff I've went to look at on Craigslist has been beat up crap but they think they have gold.  Dont mind a little work but dont want a full rebuild job right now.  Want to at least last the summer. Whats ya got?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Little olds help
« on: September 06, 2016, 02:50:51 pm »
Got a boat with a 455 in it the kid told me it was built a year or so ago but the motor looked like shit.  Rust oil etc everywhere. Wife pulled the motor down last night.  Bottom end looks good still has cross hatch in cylinders everything looks clean except for carbon on pistons.  Heads are a different story.  Thick black varnish on the intake side.  Looks like a couple of valves weren't seating right.  Guess I'll have a valve job done and the head surfaced since it looked like it leaked water out of the side.  If I have them surfaced will it affect the valve lash since there not adjustable?   They're flat tappet hydraulic.   What else do I need to look for on an Olds motor when putting it together?  Do they make a 1pc pan gasket?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / What fuel pump?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Edelbrock or Holley carb?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Well shit.....👎🚤
« on: October 03, 2015, 04:54:04 pm »
Took the boat out to get wet today and now we're sittin here like this...  Cant get past 3500 rpm without it stumbling all over.  Messed with timing, messed with carb air screws, adjusted floats and Nothing!   Only thing i cant check is fuel pressure.  Just a lot of poping at half throttle.....  Time to start drinkin 🍺

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / BBC Timing....
« on: September 19, 2015, 03:41:09 pm »
Ok I know it's been discussed somewhere before but I'm askin anyway...  Stock Indmar 454, no advance at all in distributor mechanical vacuum or otherwise.  What should my total timing with no advance?

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Getting paint off Gel Coat
« on: August 31, 2015, 04:59:53 pm »
Heard some old school guys talking about using "Easy Off" to remove paint from gel coat.  Was a little skeptical but said screw it lets try it.  Holy crap it worked great!  Sprayed it in a cup and Dabbed it on with a q tip.  Didn't want it everywhere.  After a few minutes the paint wiped right off.  Few spots needed a few coats but not bad.  After the paint wiped away I wiped it down with alcohol to remove any lasting chemical.  The gel was dull afterwards but hit it with a rubbing compound and it polished right up!  Now a Rename.....

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Little help with oil issue
« on: August 25, 2015, 08:34:42 pm »
Ok I have a stock Indmar 454 in my commander jet. Took off the spark arrestor and noticed excessive oil on the arrestor and all in the carb.  Figured the valve cover's weren't baffled so i took them off.  Wrong. Definitely baffled.  Lots of oil in PCV hose also.  So what can i do to stop this?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460 leak
« on: August 06, 2015, 04:28:53 pm »
Ok need the Ford guys input.  Gotta chance to by a boat for a pretty good deal.  Guy says the motor is a fresh built kick ass 460 BUT....  He says there's a water leak and thinks its on the front cover and leaking into the block.  He's already cleaned out the block and changed the oil.  My question is how hard is the fix gonna be.  I've always worked on Chevy's so not much knowledge on Fords...

The No Wake Zone / Shoulda stayed home!
« on: June 03, 2007, 08:25:57 pm »
Went to Elsinore this morning to do a little tunnin. everything else aside it was a great day for the lake...  but its the everything else that got me. :'( took off after we launched to play with the carb a little. bought a quick change kit for the vac. secondaries and played with that a bit but it didnt seem to cange anything. only gettin 2900rpm when im standin on it, WTF! 47 mph max!! this is bull shit. got some popin at the top end range too. but the bottom end is way better. so i said screw it lets have a couple cocktails ;D ill deal with it later. take off about 3:00pm headin home and about 3 miles down the freeway my engine cover blowes open!!  flips all the way over punches a hole in my scoop, ripes out a hinge, and bends the cables to both my fwd/rvrs and my diverter. now there both junk. goin to the river in three weeks now i got this to fix and my carb problem is wors than when i started...    I just should have stayed home. but at least i didnt lose the cover on the freeway so its all repairable ;D

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / what size carb should i run?
« on: May 16, 2007, 06:52:01 pm »
im wondering what size carb i should be running on my 454? the one i have on there just doesnt seem to be doing the job. dont know what size it is but it is a holley 4 bbl. dont know what the specs are on the engine but he said it was set up for turbo's so i assume its low compression. it supposedly has a small cam and it has an Edelbrock dual plane manafold. thinkin of may be a 750 or 850 dbl pumper?  the one thats on it now is only givin me about 3800 rpm. and once in a while when i stomp on it the rpm's will come alive bt ive only had it do that twice.  mostly you stomp on it and it sounds like its starving  for fuel. anyways just wondering what you guys thought. ;D
