Jet Pumps / Advice on pump mods
« on: June 26, 2014, 06:29:47 PM »
Just picked up a spectra 18 and took it out for the first run last weekend.  Just looking for advice on what the trick setup on the pump on these might be.  Right now I have a BBC 454 that is mostly stock.  Pump is a Berk JC with a intake loader and place diverter.  Boat runs good to about 4k then it seems like the pump cavitates and I can't get anymore mph out of it but I have plenty of rpm left.

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Fiberglass question
« on: July 22, 2013, 07:20:04 AM »
Ok, so I am in the middle of replacing my transom and installing a Berkeley pump into my question is what glass and resin should I use to glass in the transom and what should I use to fill the hole where the pre existing intake for the pump was.  I have decided to stay away from epoxy resin just for cost.... I am just mostly interested in what weights of cloth/mat you recommend and  what would be the best process/material to seal that large hole from the intake so I have a fresh start for the new intake.

Thanks In Advance

Hulls / 75 Eliminator Bubbledeck questions
« on: June 19, 2013, 06:45:00 AM »
Ok so Ive been tearing apart my bubbledeck project hull and I have 2 questions for you guys.

1) The front of the hull is packed with this necessary....and if so what do I replace it with?

2) There are a set of fins in the center of the boat(like a v drive)....not sure if these are stock or an aftermarket idea...should I keep them or ditch them?

Jet Pumps / Set Back Pump
« on: June 14, 2013, 12:01:05 PM »
Just wanted to get everyone's opinion/input on an idea.

I had posted earlier that the boat that I had recently purchased came with a Drake pump.....after a lot of thought and advice from the pros im going to drop the Drake pump and replace it with a Berk JC that I have found.  My question is....if I am going to all the trouble to replace the intake and pump should I set it back?  I have read that it is not benefecial for every hull.  My hull is a 1975 Eliminator 18' Bubbledeck....if I should set it back my second and third question is how far back and should I set the motor back or leave it?

Thanks in Advance

Jet Pumps / Drake Pump
« on: June 05, 2013, 09:25:45 AM »
Hi everyone....I'm new to the forum! I have just recently purchased my first boat...and its a huge project!  I will start a project thread as soon as I start tearing into it.  The boat came with a Drake pump....which from doing some research I understand is hard to find parts for and any information about.  I would like to basically be able to completely rebuild the pump but I dont even really know where to start.  Im just trying to see if anyuone here has any extra parts, manuals, knowledge, advice......etc.  I understand most of you will probably suggest I replace it with a Berk....but its just not in my budget...and I figure since I'm a machinist and have access to machines.....I can just make the parts I cant find.  Let me know what you guys think.
