Jet Pumps / Pump packing
« on: January 29, 2017, 08:27:00 PM »
I need to replace the packing rings in my pump. Is it recommended to use the factory style strips, or would the graphite type rope packing work?
Haven't found much in the way of a spec. on it, is it 1/4, 5/16?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / BBC head question
« on: December 13, 2016, 11:20:52 AM »
Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out if the set of heads I have are worth having done. Not looking for anything spectacular, maybe a mild budget build.
The casting number is 3993820, which shows to be from 71-74 chevelle/camaro? The little bit of info I have found his far, shows that they're just about the same as the 781 and 049 heads.
Any truth to that?
Would these be worth having them done?
Any insight is appreciated

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Buyer beware!!
« on: July 28, 2016, 10:59:57 PM »
In a way, I hate to do this because I'm not the type of person to badmouth people or do bad business. I'm only posting this in hopes of saving someone else the headache. Also, I know there are some people onnthese different sites who are friends with the person, but I really don't care.
I had an 850 Speed Demon carb, JAMES BURKHART had an IMI top mount starter and was looking for a carburetor. Ended up meeting up with him at the Oak Hill offramp above Cajon Pass and trading.
Most of you don't know me, some do. The IMI starter is basically idiot proof to wire(hot lead and key). Needless to say, starter was bad, dragging real hard(not binding/grinding) and would engage intermittently. I pulled the starter back out and messaged James Saturday. He said he would either find me another starter or give me cash. That statement, and messages being ignored until yesterday(Weds) lead me to believe he new it was no good. His last message yesterday basically said give him $85 for his time, plus the cost of the carb kit. I have no issue with the cost of the kit.
I'm only posting this so no one else gets burned!
Lesson learned, don't trade electrical parts.

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / BBC parts needed
« on: March 04, 2016, 01:05:11 PM »
A buddy of mine just picked up a 79 Crusader that has a BBC shirt block in it. I'm not positive of the casting number yet, he says it's gen 5 or 6.
Travis just left GS Marine and apparently he was told its got a hydraulic roller cam in it.

So, long story short, he's looking for advice as far as what heads to put on it.
Going to needs heads, lifters, push rods, rockers, valve covers and intake.

Anyone have any recomendations on a decent iron head or maybe have some parts they'd be willing to part with?

Miscellaneous / Spam / Oxy/acetylene set-p

So, I know cutting torches don't go well with boats. I'm trying to make some room and rid some things that don't get used. Have a set up same as this, just the cart is different(stole this picture from the web). 250cf/150cf bottles that are virtually full, hoses, regulators, torch and cart.
Figured I'd put it out there and see if there was any interest here first.

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: Am I f..cked????

Being directly into the fiberglass, I personally wouldn't put any heat at all to it.

How'd it get bent like that?

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Re: Stringer help!!!!
« on: July 13, 2015, 09:22:49 AM »
Wood doesn't appear to be rotted? Hard to tell from the picture. If the stringers are solid, fill the old bolt holes with dowels and glass back over it.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Carb questions
« on: June 15, 2015, 06:42:31 PM »
Alright guys, looking for some input.
I currently have an Edelbrock 1412(800cfm) on my, as far as I know, virtually stock 454. Runs pretty fair, until I get around the top end. If I get into the throttle to quick, it'll cough, and at times almost seems like it's running out of fuel. If I back out and ease into the throttle its fine.

My question is this: I know majority will say Holley. I've got a line on a ProForm 800 for what seems to be a fair price.(300obo)

Holley, Demon, ProForm, QuickFuel??

Ready, GO!
