Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Locking dizzy and timing
« on: January 09, 2019, 08:11:41 PM »
I’m almost done building my 454, I have the little plastic piece to lock out the hei distributor. I also installed a Mr Gasket timing tape to the damper pulley. Here in the next couple weeks I’ll be firing it up to break in the cam. When I got to set the timing what is the best way to do it. I guess I’ve heard set at 36 degrees at 3500 rpm and leave it there. I’d like to keep this simple if possible. Thanks guys

I have two boats and one had a 454 and the other a 460. I want to install the 460 in place of the 454. Are the “feet” that are bolted to the stringers the same?? Or do I need to relocate them.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Marine cam vs street cam
« on: September 19, 2018, 03:00:02 PM »
I know the street cam kit are about $200 cheaper than the marine cam kits. I don’t plan on going crazy with horse power. Will a street cam kit work or do I really need the Marine kit. Wanting to put one in a bbf 460. All stock engine and plan on running headers with edelbrock 750 carb.

Jet Pumps / ride plate adjustment for bigger roost question
« on: May 19, 2015, 05:00:14 PM »
I have a Berkeley 12 JE pump on my boat with a newly installed type place diverter. Since mine is a one piece bowl I cannot add a droop snout or rooster booster for a taller roost. Here is my theory, if I adjust my ride plate down a little so it pushes the front of the boat down will that in theory angle the diverter up more. Does that sound rite? Right now my ride plate is about level with the boat, if I adjust it downward will that push the front down and in turn angle the place diverter in a more upswept position for a taller roost?

I have heard of people grinding the diverter so it angles up more but haven't heard if it works or not.

Jet Pumps / What to expect with place diverter on a Berkeley JE pump
« on: April 29, 2015, 08:19:35 PM »
I have a 79 sleekcraft rebel with a mild 454 BBC engine. It has a Berkeley JE pump and I have ordered a manual place diverter for it. Cant wait till it gets here. Can someone tell me what to expect as far a roost goes, I know there for making the boat go faster but I think the roost is cool as hell and want to shoot a big one if its possible. Don't know if mine has the split bowl thing or not or even if what it is. Not new to boating just new to this jet boat thing. Thanks in advance.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Horse power- Headers vs logs
« on: September 18, 2014, 07:55:35 PM »
Been discussing this with a friend and he seems to think that you can get more performance out of the logs than a set of headers. His understanding is that the logs have more back pressure, my understanding is that headers help in more horse power. This is on a 454 chevy engine that has a mild cam, its in my 79 sleekcraft rebel. I like the headers cause they look badass but are noisy as hell and I guess cause of the noise and looks they seem to make more power, its in the mind I know................

I might put the logs on tomorrow and see if the boat has the same top speed as when using the headers, maybe that will tell me something.
