Boats For Sale / 73 Southwind.....

What's up gents..... Been a while since I've been around here. Hate to be doing this but it's time to sell it. I'm going to put it up on CL but wanted to put it here in case anyone is interested or knows anyone and ill get them the scjb price lol.
Had 455 in it. I have the motor but is not running. Jacuzzi jet, place diverter. Paperwork is all current and up to date. Willing to sell complete or without motor. Took some pics yesterday. Boat is located in Torrance.
Not sure exactly what I'm going to ask for it so open to offers as of now.

WarZone / You Nevada Boys...

I started looking at new Chevy and Ford Diesel's this weekend. I am thinking of going to Nevada to buy it so i don't have to pay taxes on it cuz California taxes suck 
Any one suggest any dealers out there? I am looking to get this by the end of summer, i think that's when they start doing the good deals.

Boat Showcase / 74' Kona Cruiser

Ok, so i posted that i got this 1974 Kona 21ft Day cruiser w/ rebuilt olds 455 around christmas, but it has been sittin is storage since... so i pulled it out yesterday. I pulled the plugs out everything was good, cleaned the carb littlle, and it fired right up!
So the main question.... what kind of jet is this? And it has some electric place diverter on it too???
interior is good on it and came with a bimini top. paint is decent, the blue needs to be touched up. trailer is nice just needs to be registered. Taking it out next weekend to parker for a test run.

i have yet to attend a gathering. love going to parker. cant make the races due to prior obligations. races would be cool but a whole weekend for boatin and relaxing would be nice to me.
any one got any ideas?

The No Wake Zone / Getting the boot!

So... for the last 6 months, my wife and i have been renting a room at her grandparents' fairley huge home in San Juan that her 44 year old uncle also lives in. Her grandpa has been slowly getting sicker for the last few years. They have had care takers taking care of him for the last year and spent almost $55k just in caretakers last year (if that tells you how much money matters to them). They are now getting a "live in caretaker" to try and cut cost 
This person will be moving into the room that shares a Jack & Jill bathroom with us.
Friday, the uncle tells us that "we should probably start looking for places soon." Today he tells us " the caretaker is moving in April 1st and that we need to be out by April 1st!"
Don't get me wrong, i have no problem moving into our own place (that was intentionally our plan, i was just holding out to try and buy a house). I just can't believe that they really exspect us to unexspectingly find a place to move into in 2 weeks. i know that legally i am supposed to get 30 days notice but i'm dealing with inlaws and don't want to start a family fight. i just don't understand why the caretaker is a nessecity. There are alot of elderly sick people that don't go and spend $55k a year for a live in care taker.
soooooo....... tonight i will be looking at places to live (rent) in south OC (mission viejo, lake forrest, laguna hills maybe irvine)
it just pisses me off, doing stuff under such short notice. don't know if i'll be on the water soon now

Yesterday i found out that all the crf 50's, 70's, and 80's are being recalled. I guess they found some lead paint in one of the motor parts (as if kid's lick the damm motors!) and all the big companies are getting sued. This is for all kid's bikes, ie ttr 50, 90, klx 110 and so on including all those chinese bikes. As of Mar 1st it will be illegal for dealers to sell these bikes. Dealers haven't even gotten any of this word yet...
Hang on to your mini bikes, if this really happens, they're gonna be valuable!

Soooooo, i went and had my taxes done on friday (us marines get them done for free on base thankfully!).
when the tax lady tells me how much i was getting back, i asked why it was lower than last year. found out that i had to pay back the stimulus check that i received for me, the wife, and my son last year! so i start googling and it turns out that it was a non taxable money front. guess i should have read the fine line.
anyone else know about this?

My buddy has a 76 Southwind daycruiser with a 460 in it, with a single holley 650. I've never been out on the water on it, but he tells me it keeps dying on him. he will drive it good for a good half hour to 45 mins, then it ill just shuts off, then will not start. it has to cool down for an hour or so before it will start again. i know there is a thousand of possibilites! i am going to head up to his house this weekend to give him a hand and kind of would like to narrow the solution down. anyone have any ideas?

So a couple days ago i posted an ad from craigslist (not mine) in the spam/craigslist section. It was of a 74 kona for sale for $1500 with a 455 olds. Here is the link:

I thought the boat looked like a good deal.
Well, today while at my parents house, my dad hands me and my wife an envelope with a list of parts and a note saying to go look at the my boat in the storage lot. I was sure that he had bought me all the parts i needed for my broken down olds that is currently out of my southwind. So i get to the lot, look at my boat, and notice that my southwind is exactly the same as when i left it. My dad then goes "thats not your present" and pulls off the cover of the same 74 Kona i posted as a "good buy" here a couple of days ago. The list of parts was all the new motor parts that this boat had just gotten. My dad, who didn't know that i had made the post, said that he bought it because he was thought i could pull the motor out and stick it in the southwind. th boat was in such good condition that i'm going to justleave it be. The interior is brand new, the motor just had about $2k worth the work done, it has a new bimini top, new steering cables, hydualic place diverter, and a great trailer. Just needs a little paint. My wife and i were totally surprised and overwelmed. We decided that we're going to make that the family boat and that i could make the southwind my little hotrod/ project.
I am super stoked that i have a running boat for the winter until the southwind gets pieced together. I guess my dad and I know a deal when we see one! Or think we do at least...

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Some More Wet Sanding

So after reading through the forums, I think that I am going to wet sand my hull while the motor is out. the botom has the old 70's metallic red starting to show. i think i am just going to cover that up white so it doesn't show when i am catching big air! 
the hull was probably painted in the late 80's maybe 90's (not exactly sure, maybe you can tell by the designs), and it's starting to loose the nice shine it probably once had. there are a few thick scratches that show the old color. some of the paint is starting to crack. i'm looking to do this fairly cheap. it will me myself and my old man doing all the labor. i am thinking about starting with the sides and underneath (most crucial). the top isn't horrible, prolly just needs to be polished and waxed.
anybody have any sweet little nick nacks or "be aware of's" about wet sanding? it will be my first time doing it and my dad has some experience, but it's prolly been a while for him.
pictures make my boat look great, unfortunately it doesnt look this good up close:

So I am new to this website. But I would like to point out that i was the jack ass racing up and down in front of echo lodge labor day weekend, then blew up the motor. Wasn't aware of the oil issue that olds have until monday morning when i began to google it. I'm in the process of getting the motor apart and seeing what all i have done to the heads, as i pulled the oil pan off already and one of the rod bolts was sitting in my oil pan. I have already bought a used block in case mine is damged, and got some good extra parts to go with it. Anybody have this problem with their olds before??
and for all you smart asses, i would LOVE to put a BBC in there, but i work for the military and don't get paid the big bucks!!!
