Boat Showcase / Working on New Design 2012 version
« on: July 23, 2012, 04:25:51 PM »
Thought I would post up some views of my latest 3D model of my dream circle boat. Named it Man-O-War after the triple crown winner of the late 30's.
Comments are appreciated. By the way after 3 years trying I got my first job offer... Looks like I'll be a High School Teacher - Pre-engineering, digital graphic, and Solid Works CAD.

Jet Pumps / stearing cable force
« on: September 19, 2011, 05:05:27 PM »
OK guys does anyone have an idea of how much force ( in pounds) is on the cable of a Calgo system when turning the nozzle to the peg at full throttle? I was trying to figure out what it would take to make a joy stick stearing system. I don't want the force it takes on the wheel but on the cable.

Hulls / Pantera Molds Found
« on: June 21, 2010, 02:23:04 PM »
Went to the LA Roadster Show for Fathers Day and ran into Pete Giroux owner of Giroux Boats.  He has most of Cole's molds including Hondo's Pantera t-deck molds.  He told me that the original straight deck molds were distroyed long ago due to lack of sales but he wants to recreate them.  If anyone has a Pantera stright deck and would like to rent it out so he could make the deck you can contact him at girouxboats.com

Jet Pumps / Dear Jet Tech II...
« on: September 28, 2009, 02:41:01 PM »
I was wondering, what ever happened to Air Induction Impellors?  Of course the AAA cut titanium impellors and the hyyperbolic nozzel reducers were a bit costly but the fact that once induced the pump would rev to +20% with a 75% increase in nozzel velosity while increasing the bowl pressure 95%, I always thought the costs would be far outpaced by the thrust increase. Back Then I thought we would finally outpace a TFH in the quarter?

The No Wake Zone / GM Bankruptcy / Iron Blocks for Comp Jet
« on: May 13, 2009, 12:53:39 PM »
If GM goes " Tennies Up" ( old boat racing turm) what do Chevy guys use for engines? Can after market blocks be used as long as they are Iron? ???

The No Wake Zone / GM pending chapter 11
« on: March 06, 2009, 01:05:31 PM »
I'm wondering what will happen to to Engines and parts if GM files... Even the Ford guys should be worried.  If it's decided that all V-8 aftermarket or crate engines are bad for business in order for GM to survive will all manufacturers follow?  Can't imagine what costs will do if you're forced to build a new motor using Dart or World blocks, cranks, heads, have to use billet cams.  Then there is oil and fuel pumps, timing chains, even spark plugs.  Sounds like a new basic engine for a ski boat could be a $25-$30k race motor. No one will have boats anymore even if the economy picks up.  I guess we could use a CAT diesel.

Boat Racing / Ideas on new type of racing
« on: December 31, 2008, 08:29:44 AM »
The tread asking about types of racing got me thinking so I thought I would throw it out there.
Car racing has gone a long way with series races and spec classes and the outboard guys seem to have joined in the game but there has been a real reluctance in the inboard ranks aside from APBA Hydro classes.

Here is my idea... Two classes.

PRJ (Personal Racing Jetboats).  16' mod V sealed injected small blocks basically stock running on pump gas. Run 10 miles with traditional APBA 5 minute countdown starts. Set it up like Legend cars, one hull type, one sealed motor, one pump spec. This would be an inexpensive Breeder class. I would hope to get a turn key boat to cost +- $25k.

PJ (Pro Jet).  Open hull designs, single motors up to 512CI, Aluminum blocks ok, alcohol ( promote "green" racing), canopies (promote "safe" racing), open pump designs. Run 100 miles with APBA 5 minute starts. Pit stop refueling. More like world of outlaw cars with pit stops. Run a circuit of say 10 races a year. This would be a true pro class capable of having TV coverage (hence the length) with sponsorship capabilities.

Any comments?

The No Wake Zone / Someone
« on: November 21, 2008, 11:29:08 AM »
I can't believe that a handful of guys in a rubber boat can take over the largest tanker in the world with $100 million in crude and another tanker with frickin tanks and there is no protection for the ships. Spanish gallions at least had a few cannon on board. I've decided the best way to fight back is by doing what we know best. I want to propose to the navy a little bit of protection (and build my boat at the same time). Hell I can charge them Millions per unit and it would still be cheaper that chasing these guys with the entire fleet and then negotiating with them. Just put one of these with a couple of navy guys to operate it on each ship.

The No Wake Zone / So Cal Fires
« on: November 16, 2008, 08:41:46 PM »
Last two days have been awful. Like camping out down wind of the campfire all weekend with no relief, can't breath and the alergies are freeking out.  Luckily we were between the Brea and Yorba Linda fires when they started. About four blocks south of Brea's origin and 5 miles from the Yorba Linda origin. By sunday morning they merged.  Have about five pounds of ash in the front yard alone.  My daughter and her husband have a friend that lost his apt. in Anaheim Hills.  This is a mess.  If they find out it's arson and find the guy I elect returning burning at the stake!!!

Events / Funnyist race you would ever see
« on: October 27, 2008, 09:07:22 AM »
Had some time on my hands Sat. so I went to Irwindale Speedway for the Outlaw Figure 8 Championships.  Those guys are truly nuts! One hour of 80+ lap times missing each other by inches at the crossing.  BUT THE BEST WAS AT THE END.  TRAILER RACES!!!!  EIGHT CARS TOWING TRAILERS ON THE SHORT 1/3 MI. TRACK.  Four boats were included and three of them ended up on the track. One guy towing a horse trailer hit two of them amidships and parts were everywhere.  If any or you want a real fixer upper there is a 16' Wreit (?) outboard without motor that needs some glass work and the trailer needs straightening.

Boat Racing / New Circle Boat Teams
« on: September 03, 2008, 02:03:15 PM »
Little birds are starting to sing about new and old circle and drag boat teams thinking about putting circle boats together.  Seams drags are getting boring. Anyone else hear these vicious rumors?

The No Wake Zone / SAFETY EQUIPMENT
« on: July 13, 2008, 02:59:28 PM »
Wanted to get ideas from the multitudes on safety equipment in boats. Good enough as is, should be more, butt naked classes...(maybe not)
I've been thinking of capsules and there are two types,  used in drags, which are steel driver cages with a fiberglass and plexiglass skin that depart from a disintegrating hull, and the kind found in APBA class circle boat hydros , f-1, and offshore that provide a containment area for drivers. these cockpits generally stay with the boat and provide top and bottom hatches.  Both provide five point harnesses and air bottles.

I'm also wondering what everyone thinks of Hans Type devices for the helmets?

Comments welcome

Projects / Weights and Measures
« on: April 08, 2008, 01:57:59 PM »
I'm wondering if anyone in SCJB land has weighed the following separately...

1. Engine (make, model, induction exhaust... different types ok)
2. Pump (w/ or w/o snoots, extentions, intakes, nozzels, more types the better)
3. Hull (make & model plus a dimension from the transom to where it balances)
4. Tanks (empty w/ capacity in gal.)
5. Driver suited up (vs. in your b-day suit)

I would like to set up a little CG calculator and want to get an idea of how they set up compared to where we think they should be set up.  This should help everyone in ordering drive lines, fin placement, best location for tanks, driver's seat etc.  My hope is I'll develop it as free ware (probably a modified excel spread sheet) on the site if our fearless leader thinks it's ok.

Boat Showcase / Still Working on New Boat Design
« on: March 17, 2008, 04:20:30 PM »
Thought I would post up this latest image of the new tunnel boat I'm trying to figure out how to finance.
This picture should help.  Since the last image posting I've changed it to a CJ with twin dominators and Headers. Figured out a cool trailer and added something to tow it with. Added some sugar and resurrected my old business name "Aire Kraft Boat Works Co."

Don't all go crazy now but Hot Boat's web page is back up!!!  :screwy:No better than before since the forum isn't working, which was the real reason for going there anyway . I just hope that the threads we had don't go the way of the rest of the mag.

I started a thread on Hot Boat and it gave me a lot of info but when it went off line not only did we loose a really cool thread I lost a lot of good info.

What I want is your input on a new boat design. I'm thinking of three different boats 1) jet drags, 2) Comp Jet Circle racer, 3) river boat for the family. The ultimate goal would be to be the Ferrari of jet boats, building family boats in order to finance the racing. You can look at the first iteration on . Even though this shows a blown motor, I think this is closer to the circle boat concept. Drag boat would be narrower, smaller air traps, smaller cockpit and maybe shorter, Family boat would be completely different with seating for four, open cockpit, extra interior amenities, etc.
