« on: April 25, 2010, 09:38:25 AM »
My motor is based on a '76 ford 460 with DoveC heads... It had those funky 4 electrode plugs in it and they where new so I ran them last season.... Well it's about time to uncover the old hot boat and dust off the winter blues... I'm looking for a new plug this year but not sure where to start.. It has a Mallory unilite dizzy on it... i want a old style single electrode plug... Any ideas and any ideas on the plug gap...

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / won't start when hot
« on: August 01, 2009, 08:21:39 AM »
ok here is the deal... When she is hot she won't start sometimes.. after alot of head ache :banghead: and a little trouble shooting with the multimeter my dad and me have found i'm only getting about 8-9 volts at the coil in the start mode... Once she is running it drops down to 6 like it's supposed to.. So I'm assuming the resister is still good... I have made a little jumper wire with som clips and when she won't start i just hook it from the coil + plus side to the 12 volt side on the resister and she will fire right up.. So am I looking for a loose wire????? Which I can't find or is it something mechanical???? My dad swears up and down it is a loose wire.. Im just not sure about that though... Only happens when it is hot..

Oh and I could be wrong about the 6v at run and 8-9 at start.. it could be the other way around.. But it is still wrong I should have a full12v on the start circuit....    I have a mallory unilite dizzy with an Accel coil... 76' nordic with a 460

Hulls / Bow foam
« on: May 28, 2009, 08:06:14 PM »
Ok this might be a dumb ???? Not even sure it's in the right spot  :screwy:Is there any structural need for the foam in the bow or is it just there to help float your boat for a bit if it sinks.. And does that stuff weigh alot and are there any benefits to removing it...
Thx guys, Andrew ???

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Header water injection
« on: April 12, 2009, 04:33:26 PM »
Ok so here is my issue.. The fellow i bought my Nordie from "modified" the Basset T-Valve so there would be just enough water going through at idle to cause a slight steaming effect in order to keep the headers cooler... I Idle it more and tend to get just a bit of water in tne oil than I would prefer ... So My question is I'm going to redo the system by either buying a new T-valve or going with a manual control from Rex Marine.. I have no experience with these manual dealios.. So what do some of you guys prefer and can I run just the manual control without a T-valve or do I need both... Thx Guys

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Header Decibels
« on: April 03, 2009, 08:16:50 PM »
Ok so here goes guys.. My first post and sorry for no pics yet.. New computer and haven't got to it yet... I have basset headers and was wondering what decibel reading I would be looking at... My state has a noise limit of 90 DBs at idle... Think I'll fail and if so I would like some thoughts..
