The No Wake Zone / Three Lakes Shootout Back on the Table
« on: June 20, 2022, 03:35:48 PM »
I just found out that the Three Lakes Wisconsin Radar runs are back on the schedule for this year this coming Saturday, June 25th. I know this is short notice. This event has not been run the last couple of years. There is also a boat show Friday evening at a local bar/restaurant.

A bit pricey I think, $80.00 for 3 runs, but usually goes to a good cause. Time runs are I think 800 ft. Usually a good time.

If you are in the area and looking for something to do, drive up for the day or spend the weekend. Hotel/Motel rooms are available in Eagle River. If you want bring your own boat to race, or watch the runs from the water. The runs are run on a chain of lakes so you can tour the lakes later in the day.

The No Wake Zone / Chrome Headers, How do you do it...
« on: February 10, 2022, 12:53:21 PM »
How do you keep your headers from tuning blue?  The only thing I can think of other than running lots of water thru the injector lines is cam shaft design, short duration and watching your over lap, keeping the exhaust flame travel out of the pipes as much as possible and not running the carbs lean.

I have seen lots of pictures and videos of great looking boats and headers look like the engines have never been fired. My headers are blue, not dark blue, around the first bend and a few inches up the first straight length of tubing. I know the engine is not running lean, plugs are normally a nice golden brown. Timing is usually around 34 - 36 degrees.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Cam Shaft Duration @.050 ?
« on: February 10, 2022, 10:51:53 AM »
I think I have found my cam, still need to talk to Bullet on its specifics. What has me bothered a bit is the duration is 259 and 265 I/E. Is this getting  to close to the magic number of 275 degrees to cause the engine to start sucking water back into the chambers from the water injected headers? I don't need to hydraulic the engine.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / New Cam Maybe
« on: April 29, 2021, 05:25:58 PM »
I think I have found my new cam. I am going to have to call Bullet Cams to have them do some research as to the exact spec and then change it over to hydraulic roller lifters.. As I don't have access to the cam card, it will be a little work. I do not want to use solid rollers, don't want to be 10 or 15 miles out and then have to find a ride/tow back.

Here is what I know of the cam:
.625 / .617 Lift   1.6 / 1.55 Rocker Ratio    Doesn't look like it will be real hard on the springs
259 / .263 Duration      Don't know if this was advertised or at .050 Might be a bit to much for a lake boat
114 Lobe Separation

761 HP at 5700
802 Torque at 4600

This was a 535 CU IN ,10.79 compression Hemi. I am running 500 inches Going to have to look at my compression, original compression about 13 to 1, now block has about .100 more deck height and uncut heads with way to big of ports..

If I can get this figured out, I think this might work great with a A impeller.

The No Wake Zone / Berkley VS American Turbine Droop Snoot
« on: April 05, 2021, 06:25:52 PM »
Which has a better designed Droop Snoot? I see that the Berkley has a divider where as the American Turbine doesn't. Does it make a difference? Does the divider straighten out the water flow out of the bowl?

I am starting to gather parts as I am starting a major rebuild of my Eliminator and want to try something new. This will give me a chance to find on on the used market before I need it

Have you ever wondered what was going on at the back end of your boat? I stumbled across this video last night. It is interesting to see how much the pump actually moves around, along with the transom. I am sure a lot of the movement is being caused by the ride place. There has to be a tremendous amount of force being placed on the plate and pump, then into the suction housing, bottom of the hull, and transom.

It is also interesting to see the flow of water out of the nozzle as it is going thru its up and down motions. I am trying to figure out the forward motion of the boat/our boats at speed when the nozzle is in the full up position and a large portion of the flow is actually in the air.

I wonder if the nozzel o-ring was replaced after this video, along with the rudder?

Interior / Martinez Interiors
« on: April 02, 2020, 06:46:19 PM »
Has anyone used either of the Martinez interior shops lately, either Elsinore or Perris ? I need to have my seats redone (raccoons, Thanks neighbors) and had originally planned to use Eddie a few years ago, but I had some family problems and didn't get the work done. Since that time the brothers have split and I read that some of of the work had become questionable and pricey.

The plan was to disassemble the seats and send the coverings to use as patterns. Eddie would send the new coverings back and I could do the install on my frames. Eddies theory to do it this way would save a bunch of cost for shipping. I may have found a somewhat reasonable way to ship, Fastenal.

I tried to get someone here in Wisconsin, but they were out of their minds, $4600, just to replace the covers, no wood. I really can't find someone close that I would trust with the work.

Pictures are on my other computer

The No Wake Zone / Three Lakes Wisconsin Time Runs Canceled
« on: April 02, 2020, 08:57:52 AM »
Sorry to be the barer of bad news.

To all of those who were planning to attend the time runs this year, they have been canceled due to the COVID-19 virus. This was taken from the town chairmans/town facebook page.

"1. All public events scheduled through July 31, 2020 have immediately been cancelled. This includes any and all permitted and non-permitted events that gather on public or private property that are open to or gather the public. This includes events such as tournaments, parades, memorial ceremonies, races, sporting games and practices, and any other public events. This date will be re-evaluated regularly and should circumstances change we will adjust accordingly and swiftly in either direction, but most obviously and hopefully for the better."

The town is also asking seasonal visitors and people with summer homes not to come up, if you do, to self quarantine for 14 days. I probably won't go up until the middle of May or maybe Memorial Day weekend, By that time the grass will have had a start to grow, I have about an acre and a half of grass that will need to be cut and there is no way I can wait until the end of July or longer. Planning my trips, I don't have to interact with town people for as long we are there, unless I need gas for the tractor, toon, or need something from the hardware store.

I can see them wanting people to stay away do to the limited medical infrastructure and the county has one of the largest senior populations in the state.

The No Wake Zone / Intro, New Member
« on: February 13, 2018, 06:18:54 PM »
Hello

My name is Bob. I live in currently snow bound Wisconsin, 16 inches of snow so far this month. New member to the SCJB site. Have lurked for several years and thought it was time to join, I am going to have lots of questions for boat updates. I have an 84 Eliminator Formula jet with a 500 in. HEMI.. It is just a lake boat, but is fun. I have been around jet boats since the early 60’s when my dad bought Buehler Turbocraft, center consul with a straight 6, very fun boat. My first jet was an 18 ft Sleekcraft with a HEMI also, purchased in 78 and lost it in 83, another story. I normally boat in northern Wisconsin.

Seeing the pictures from the different weekend events SCJB’s jet boaters take have shown me what I have been missing over the years. and get me through the winter. I have it on my bucket list to get out to the Southwest in either the spring or fall to see what goes on first hand on the river, either the Billy B show or one or two of the SCJB events. I tend to watch the youtube videos a couple of time a week. The closest I have gotten to the river was Christmas of 1987, it was cloudy and 42 degree’s in Havasu with snow in the desert. I was working in Vegas at the time, had the day off, and I had to go. My ultimate goal is to run all the big ponds in the soutwest.

Lurked here to see mods that you guys have done to your boats. Lake jets out this way are very few and far between.

Boat is currently down as I need a new interior, Rocky Raccoon found the boat for a winter home a few years back. Not pretty. Looking to send the seats out to Martinez. Was going to do it this fall/winter but had some family issues. Maybe next fall.
