Random Boat Parts For Sale / GC's Moving Sale
« on: September 07, 2016, 06:38:47 AM »
After 20 years in the same place, I now find myself having to move across town.  I have collected a few things for "projects" along the way that I now just want to get rid of instead of moving them.  Pics will follow when I can get them out of my wife's camera (which may have just gone to Mexico to cover some off road race).

Olds 455 Logs and snails, polished    $100

Olds 455 windage tray w/ bolts         $40

Ford 460 MSD                                  $100

Ford 460 longbolt logs/snails  UGLY    Best offer

460 valve covers w/ some outside rust    $25

stringer mount foot throttle                 $25

460 PTO  ugly                                     $20

More details to follow at some point.   Still trying to decide if I'm selling a Holley 850 and my stash of Chrysler jetboat stuff.

Nice Mallory dizzy with Accel wires and looms  (forgot if it is Olds or Ford)  $100

All items are in the I.E. and I would rather not try to ship most of this stuff.   Step right up, Operators are standing by.

Miscellaneous / Spam / Wanna trade a beer for a new BFG T/A radial?
« on: August 27, 2016, 08:45:03 PM »
Anybody need a spare for a boat trailer or an old school muscle car?

I have one (1) BFG T/A  235/60-14 on a rim that was a boat trailer spare for a boat that never got assembled  It has zero miles on it and has been sitting in a dark garage for appx. 4 years.   It is in a garage in Redlands now but will be going to the Redlands dump next weekend if none of you pick it up.   I drive to Corona every day if you live somewhere in between I might even deliver it for an additional beer.   Please don't insult me with offers of Budweiser, Corona, anything Belgian or with lime in it.

Oh yeah I'll throw in the wheel it is mounted on too, because, well I don't have the boat anymore or a tire machine.

Anybody else drinking tonight?

The No Wake Zone / HELP Residential Electrician needed
« on: June 30, 2016, 10:01:12 AM »
I have 3 different homes that need a variety of electrical issues addressed.  1 50 yr old tract home in Corona and another in Redlands.  Also need a ton of things cleaned up in an old Victorian in Redlands.  If there are any honest hardworking electricians looking for work, I think I could keep you buys for a while.
Referrals and/or recommendations are always welcome.
I need this work done ASAP so don't be shy.  I really don't want to just pick a name out of the phonebook.  Oh crap that just dated me didn't it?   Operators are standing by  951.454.1934

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / BBF head I.D.
« on: June 06, 2016, 12:16:34 PM »
I have a set of Ford DZVE AA heads.  Opinions on how well these will work for a build looking around a 500 hp 460 is what I am looking for.  How about if I decided to go big and build a 600+ stroker motor?    How well do they respond to light porting?  Looking for a bottom end monster tug boat, not a race boat.

I am looking for a place to clean some motorcycle hubs in preparation for painting.  They are cast magnesium.  I also have some bare rims that I need polished.  Anyone have any leads anywhere in the I.E. that won't tear stuff up?

The No Wake Zone / April 7 is National Beer Day
« on: April 07, 2015, 11:26:43 AM »
Please celebrate accordingly.  And be advised any Budweiser product cannot be considered as beer due to its lack of taste, quality, alcoholic content, and no longer American owned.   That concludes this Public Service Announcement.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / How to Build an Olds 455
« on: March 26, 2015, 10:25:22 PM »
I just found my copy of Timminator's The Practical Olds

It is the most thorough explanation of 101 little machining tricks to get your Olds to run long long time.  If there is any interest I will try to scan it into my computer and clean it up a bit.  Then I can mail it to you, as I'm not sure about posting it here as there are probably copyright issues somehow.  It runs 10 pages and it has been copied several times so the pictures are a bit fuzzy and dark but the text explains everything you need to tell the machine shop anyway.  It is an awesome store of information for anyone thinking about trying to squeeze any extra ponies out of your grandfather's 250 hp Cutlass motor.  But yeah, some of us are just crazy like that.   :screwy:

The No Wake Zone / Elsinore Sat. March 28, 2015
« on: March 24, 2015, 10:35:07 PM »
Just a heads up about boating local this Saturday.  La Laguna will be hosting professional Water Ski racing and the lake will be closed to public boating.  But the following Saturday the city waives all ramp fees, so get yourself out to Helsinore this weekend and next if'n you can.

The No Wake Zone / Let's talk Insurance
« on: March 11, 2015, 07:07:56 PM »
I am getting set to pay my yearly premium.  At the time I was reading on RDP about all the trouble people were having even finding insurance.  I started with AAA because I am already a customer but they wouldn't do it.  After getting a couple other turn downs I ended up with Progressive.  Now that I know George Soros owns Progressive (cute name George)  I want to leave.  The question is where to?

Anybody wanna compare comps?

1974 Wreidt Montara
300 HP  Covered motor

100/300,000 Bodily Injury
100 Property damage including fuel spillage
100/300,000 Uninsured boater
5K each person medical benefit

Comprehensive   Agreed value $10,000  (I paid 6K for it)  Zero deductible
Collision               Agreed value $10,000    Zero deductible   Zero deductible

Included with the Comp & Collision  is $250 damage coverage on trailer with no deductible

$500 towards Emergency Watercraft Towing and Labor for each incident.
$1000 towards replacing Personal effects lost/damaged by sinking.

Seems like pretty good coverage but it comes in at $335 yearly.    High?  Low?  So whatchu all think?  Can I do better?

The No Wake Zone / SCJB banner ads
« on: February 22, 2015, 04:59:29 PM »
An ad from tirebuyer dot cm  was running here the other day.  I'm needing tires on my truck and so I clicked on it.  They had an fantastic price on several great tires for my MegaCab.  They will ship to many major shops in my town for free, or to my house.  And they will give me a discount towards having them mounted if I use one of their shops, of which they had many to choose from.

I know Brad didn't want to bring in the ads and that he has no control of them, but this seemed like a pretty legit way to save some big bucks on an expense that we all have from time to time.  I'm just trying to help y'all spend your money  LOL

The No Wake Zone / Happy New Year SCJBrs
« on: December 31, 2014, 08:00:31 PM »
Happy and healthy New Years wishes to all of you.  It has been far too long since I have seen any of you, but I hope to change that this summer.  We just polished off an 8 lb. prime rib, cajun corn salad, several microbrews and just now some scratch made brownies.  The wife works tomorrow at 5 a.m. so I will be sitting in the hot tub here at home with a grip of Jack & Diet Pepsi and a few adult indulgences from about 11:00-1:00 with some friends like most years, listening to the world go crazy yet again.

Feel free to post your party pics here.  My phone's camera got broke so I got nothin' but I love seeing people have a good time.

Now let's get this party started !!!

The No Wake Zone / Cheap azz Tip O' the Day
« on: December 10, 2014, 05:57:44 PM »
This week the original 99 Cent stores have Coppertone spf 30 spray can for  NINETY NINE CENTS !

Despite the new science that says the aerosol lotions are pretty unhealthy for you, I think they convenience with kids trumps that.  I bought a dozen cans yesterday.  That might get them through a year of camping trips and lake runs.  Maybe.  They sure can lose these things fast.

I am on the look out for anything cool that has to do with trucks.  Do you have, or know where I can find, trucks or off road related stuff worthy of being published in a national magazine?  Truck?  Shop?  Tech?  Big inches or lift, tire, or motor?  Let me know about anything that you might think that other people would like to read about.

I have a few friends in the industry who are hungry for truck and/or off road related material to eventually end up in one of several nationally recognized magazines and maybe video.  For now being local to So Cal is helpful although frequent trips to Las Vegas are planned.  Obviously vehicles have to be not only clean but interesting or different enough to stand out, but great shops or products can be good too.

So who wants a few minutes of "fame"?

Project Boats For Sale / FS: 1978 Spectra 20
« on: June 28, 2014, 05:32:29 PM »
I can't believe I'm doing this but I have been drinking heavily for hours.  Money is tight and I'm tired of just seeing this boat sit unfinished.  so its kinda of a drunk thread but not. Anyways

A couple years ago on a lark I drove up to Fresno to buy this boat basically unseen.  It ran (Ford460/Berk) and the price was a steal.  He said the pump was new but something quit working on the last outing.  Crawling under it I find a 12 pack wrapper in the grate.  And a ton of stuff wrong with the trailer.  Crossing my fingers we get to So Cal with no trouble.  I'm a happy camper and only $1600 lighter!
Fast forward . . .  Two years ago I spent another $1400 having the trailer completely re-habbed including tires, brakes, bearings, etc.  The motor turned out to be junk but the interiror is good for a year or two.  Rub rail needs some love but not much.  It is brown, which is honestly the only reason I don't put it together.

Two grand for the boat, or $3K for the boat with most of the parts to build a bad ass 460.  So far I have had zero luck posting pics on this site so if it don''t take, Pm me and I can email you one or two.  they aren't great pics but I din't have much to work with today.  I can get more when I'm not quite so looped.   Original everything, dog house is there but side seats are dust.  Solid classic boat, I just don't have the time to work on them both.  Or the money.  Why the hell does it have to be brown?  Why?
Holy crap ~ I think I got this !  thet deservs another Jack n Pepsi dammit

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Any plug reading Pro's out there?
« on: April 02, 2014, 11:12:08 PM »
OK, this is the plug in a two stroke dirt bike we are talking about here.   I'm running out of time and you guys are all I got right now.

Sooo will running old (5+months) premix turn a normally nice light tan electrode gray?   I don't have a lot of time to fix problems between now and the race on Saturday and I'm going to change the fuel anyway.  But I am going to have to make time for a jetting season/carb inspection if I change the premix and that DOESN'T return things back to normal.
Somehow I developed a serious case of water in my tank and I have NO friggin idea how it happened.  I mixed it and the raw gas came right out of a 5 gallon drum of VP that I had just bought.   I haven't changed any jetting but I have made a number of suspension and clutch changes.  I really need to focus on them and getting the brake shoes changed out between now and this Saturday.  I would really sleep better knowing that stale gas will cause a tan plug to go gray.

C'mon someone please at least blow some smoke up my ass.

The No Wake Zone / Any minibike experts here?
« on: December 30, 2013, 05:04:36 PM »
I have a CRF 50 and a CRF 70 that are giving me fits trying to get running.  The little one won't run without the choke fully on, even though it ran fine when parked nearly a year ago.    And the big one has gas coming out of the vent in the bottom of the carb whenever it is running but not when turned off.  The drain screw is closed completely.    Any help?    Anybody want to buy the 50?

Cars / Automobiles For Sale / F/S CRF 50 & 70
« on: December 19, 2013, 10:58:20 PM »
Both are in good shape, my kids just  outgrew them before they learned to like riding.  Extra set of new plastic for the 50 and a FMF exhaust on the 70.  I'll even throw in some small gear if it will fit your kids.  I think I even have a set of training wheels for real little kids.  I'm pretty motivated so shoot me a reasonable offer.  I have pinks on them but DMV will want stoopid money to register them as they are a few years unregistered now.
PM me or call   951-454-1934  John

Project Boats For Sale / Spectra 20 ~ I'm thinking about selling.
« on: November 06, 2013, 06:37:37 PM »
Just throwing it out there .  .  .

So I have this boat halfway back together but don't really have the funds to finish it anytime soon.  I spent $$$ on having RiverDad rehab the trailer and it has 5 brand new tires.  The boat has original swim step, interior is very useable but no jump seats, gauges work.  Big plus is aluminum fuel tanks down the sides. Boat ran until the motor broke a year ago.   I bought the boat several years ago but have never used it because of minor wiring and carb problems.  It was bought to be a restored classic but I just have lost interest in having two boats, and frankly this one will never be the beauty  my Wriedt is without a color change.  It is however a Spectra 20 which has got to be one of the all time best jet boats of all time.  Set up for a BBF with a Berkley jet that seems to be in good shape.  Rock solid in the chop and lots of room inside, these really are great boats.
I know someone needs this boat more than I do.  Actually if you were ever thinking about getting into the entry level racing classes it would be an excellent start as one of those too.  I don't want to just give it away and I have already stored it for 4+ years, it ain't no big deal to keep doing so, but I would be interested in talking about a deal for someone on here.   Getting pics is kind of a pain but I'll do it if we talk first.
