Projects / 1976 Rogers Winter Project Completed
« on: June 01, 2019, 06:40:17 PM »
That was a long stressful 7 months of chasing waiting working. Lake tested twice and she works well. 460 Ford block checked for cracks and pressure tested built by Britco Racing engines a reputable local shop. To shorten the build, everything new and forged with pump gas friendly 9.5 compression, full roller solid lift cam and rockers. Air gap manifold and Brawler 850 double pumper. She was broken in on their dyno with my boat headers and made. 472.6 @ 5400 and 553.3 lb. ft. @4000rpm, on pump gas. Hassler's custom paint repaired the dock rash. Longview upholstery did the seats. Skagen Marine did a complete rebuild of the pump with a new A impeller. I had the pump cover powder coated black. New wheel bearings fixed the wiring problems with solder/shrink tubing no crimp connectors. Wife went on the first lake test and I got a little wild, so wife sat out second lake test bummer. We have been together for 34 or 35 years I have forgotten for sure but I have ordered a new Nitro "weed wacker" bass boat. (actually, the 2019 are four cycle) I guess I may have two boats, after the work and money I don't want to part with my Hot Rod Boat; but going alone isn't much fun either...

Boat Insurance - Nikki Bostick / My SAFECO insurance experience
« on: May 20, 2019, 12:40:30 PM »
I have full coverage, agreed upon for the actual hull and motor. (15K) In addition $1500.00 for unattached equipment $100.00 deductible. Trailer is custom and has $5k,  personal effects emergency assistance, (not sure if that's when your sinking or stranded)  liability limit at $500,000.00 which includes bodily injury and property damage including fuel spill and wreckage removal. Roadside assistance and additional fishing equipment/captains package endorsement.
This policy is written through Safeco which covers my vehicles home and life. My age 68 "Yikes" (how did that happen) and clean driving record for over 20 years; could be the reason I am able to get full coverage at less than $400.00 per year.

Jet Pumps / Drop Snoot Advice
« on: May 20, 2019, 12:27:00 PM »
OK, the pump is completely rebuilt, bearings packing wear ring "A" impeller, SS loader; The boat came with a Drop Snoot, (I think that's correct spelling) but you get the point. So the boat with the old motor which on the dyno makes 600+ hp and over 600 lb. ft. torque; Had a 4-degree wedge. So my new pump gas friendly motor on the dyno. 472.6 hp @ 5400 and 553.3 lb. ft. @ 4000 rpm.
When I lake tested the boat before the rebuild she did 75 mph @ 5200 rpm with the wedge installed worn A impeller GPS indicated.
So the question "Wedge" or No "Wedge." I know go test her. That takes time and money and a wasted day at the lake, therefore I'm open to suggestions. I have had many boats from V-Drive to IO, this is my first and definitely last pump boat, lol...

Purchased new 1/4/08 2LZ Z06 flawless. I drive her a couple of times a summer. Factory valve issue fixed, still smells new. I could write a couple of pages on build although the engine transmission and rear differential are stock. I installed the Ktech dual disk clutch anticipating supercharging her although I never did. I have agreed upon insurance from Heacock for 80K. I'm testing the waters at 60k. It's been paid for years ago, no need to sell. I would appreciate it if only interested folks with money reply, I don't need opinions, one gets what one pays for. Guess that's a nice way of saying I already know what the average Z06 is going for. I don't want trades, both shops are full...

Jet Pumps / How does on tell if the pump needs rebuilding
« on: January 31, 2019, 09:30:32 PM »
I have a new 460 going in my 1976 Rogers. Since the existing engine is out now might be a good time to rebuild the Berkely 12 JC-A pump? It's been previously rebuilt but I don't know exactly when. The packing is not leaking. the front bearing has no play, no perceived unusual vibration. The boat ran with ease to 80mph no performance problems. I have been told that you would hear a "Growling" noise if the front bearing is bad. With the headers, there is no way one could hear anything other than the motor/exhaust. I watched a U-Tube video that indicates the pump can be removed out the back with the engine installed, although the local boat repair shop says the motor needs to be out. I'm past buried in the full roller, forged everything, new down to the ignition wouldn't mind waiting until next winter for the pump but; Since it's out now anyway just wondering; Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Boat Showcase / My First Pump Boat
« on: December 20, 2018, 08:19:51 PM »
Hello Jet Boat people, wish I lived in Southern CA. I'm in the process of the engine down/up-grade (less radical I don't want to run race fuel or octane booster) and pump rebuild over the WA winter.  :( Had the boat out last fall four times and she handles nice. Completely different from my Schiada V-Drive. Wish I could find who originally did the Awesome Paint, and interior. Does anyone know who makes the "Wash Over" trim for the transom; or does one make it themselves?  Apparently, without one, you may be in jeopardy of swamping your boat. (been hearing stories/watching U-Tube disasters) I'm working on the mechanical first then will finish with the detail.

Anyway, hope you all have a Safe Happy Holidays...

Test / Transom wash over guard
« on: December 20, 2018, 07:21:20 PM »
I have a recently purchased 1976 Rogers Jet boat with a 460 Ford.  I have owned boats since the 70's including a Schiada V-drive, but never a pump boat. Apparently "wash over" the back is an issue. Other than making my own does anyone know a shop who fabricates those units for specific hull designs?

Is Rodgers Custom boats still in business, I see a posting on facebook but there was no contact number.

Does anyone know who originally restored my boat. I wouldn't mind contacting them with some questions. One thing for sure whoever painted her did and above average job!!!
