Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Fire extinguisher
« on: July 29, 2014, 06:58:57 PM »
I am looking at the clean agent fire extinguishers and there is 1.4 and 2.5lb sizes. What is a typical size used for an 18ft open engine compartment jetboat?
Also where is the best place to get a nice billet bracket?

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / Sanding balsa floors
« on: July 09, 2014, 05:46:01 PM »
Ok, I have gotten one section of floor glassed down. Everything went well and is very solid. I was instructed to lay the balsa with the scrim side up and sand after it's set. What grit paper do you sand the scrim off with and is a 6" da suitable? Should I work my way up in sandpaper grit after the scrim is gone?
Thanks for any help!

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Fuel pressure reading
« on: June 08, 2014, 03:57:51 PM »
I am running a tunnel ram with 2 holleys and an aeromotive a2000 4 port regulator. Problem is that I have no fuel pressure ports. Can I just drill and tap one of the plugs that goes into my carb bowl?

Jet Pumps / Place diverter nozzle o ring
« on: May 26, 2014, 08:26:26 PM »
I ordered a rebuild kit from place diverter but it seems I got the wrong o ring. My diverter has a small groove and a large diameter Teflon o ring is what I have and it doesn't come close to stretching onto the housing. Is there more than one style? Didn't give any options when ordering  on place diverter website.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Best filter option for scoop
« on: May 23, 2014, 04:25:31 PM »
What kind of filters or spark arresters are you guys running under a large tall scoop? I have one with a smaller tray on it, 11 x 17 1/2" and I don't want something that is going to restrict the motor. Any help appreciated, thanks! Pictures please if you have them!

Jet Pumps / Berkeley casting accuracy?
« on: April 22, 2014, 06:04:55 PM »
I set the intake in my southwind 18. I made marks on the Intake and test fitted multiple times. Measurements were taken at the rear of the suction housing mounting surface and at the intake entry. When you measure from the strake to the outside edge of the shoe it's off by 1/8" and if you measure from the fins of the intake it's off center.  Where is square on these intakes? I lt looks crooked in my boat. Not sure what to do with it now.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Best way to get engine lower in hull?
« on: October 06, 2013, 06:39:13 PM »
I am in the process of rigging my southwind v bottom, I have a 460 ford with motor plates and 2 1/2" rails on the stringers mounted 1/4" from the top. I also have the pump sitting in the boat, the centerline of the pump shaft and crankshaft are 5" apart with the engine being higher. I have 6" of oil pan clearance, should I lower the rails on the stringers or trim the motor plates to lower the engine? I can only trim 3" from the rear plate before I run into the starter cutout.

Interior / Steering wheel hub and adapter
« on: April 17, 2013, 03:34:49 PM »
I have a dilemma, I am getting close to the rigging stage on my boat and I have ordered a steering post and adapter from rex marine. Problem is that they cannot tell me when they will begin producing some more of them. Only problem is that I am unsure where else to get a 6" steering extension for a morse rack? Also need a adapter hub for a momo wheel, both in polished form . Thanks in advance for any help! I wouldn't mind buying used if anyone had that stuff lying around.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 460 Ford water outlet and crossover?
« on: December 26, 2012, 08:17:57 PM »
I am plumbing up my 545 in my boat and was wondering what would be the best way to route water out? Use the water ports near my thermostat housing and dump them overboard with a crossover on the timing cover water ports. Or run plugs in the holes on the intake and thermostat housing and dump the water out of the holes in the timing cover, or plug the holes in the timing cover and dump water out of the intake ports? The water is entering the engine through the lower holes in the block on the left and right side.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / What exhaust hose to run?
« on: March 31, 2012, 11:11:27 AM »
I am having trouble finding a good 4" exhaust hose to run on my cruiser boat. The engine is a mostly stock 350 sbc with omc log manifolds on it 4" outlet to 4" tips, only about an 18" run from the manifold to tip. I keep burning holes in the top side of the exhaust hose, i am not sure why it keeps doing this but there seems to be plenty of water running out of the tips even at an idle and it doesn't feel all that hot when it is running, i mean you can touch it for a few seconds and it wont burn you. Hose that is currently burnt up on the boat now is mpi exhaust hose. I even put an 8" piece of 4" exhaust pipe inside the hose and clamped it in and it still burnt out the small areas where hose was exposed to the exhaust gas. I have looked for a different type of hose and found some trident marine silicone soft wall exhaust hose but i cant seem to find a dealer with the hose in stock. Anybody have any ideas?

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / BBF Tunnel ram for standard heads
« on: December 15, 2011, 04:45:17 PM »
I have a used Weiand tunnel ram for sale, I switched cylinder heads and cannot use it anymore. When i got the intake all of the damaged threads were heli-coiled and the pipe threads were re-tapped, intake is in good usable condition. I also have a dual Dominator top with spacers, i will seperate. To my knowledge they do not make this intake anymore. Someone did a little grinding to clear a distributor, but it is not very deep.
$250 o.b.o.

Jet Pumps / Double drilled bowl, what type of gasket or sealant?
« on: December 12, 2011, 04:28:04 PM »
I have a double drilled bowl and was wondering what type of sealant or gasket people have used? The pump will be set back and it will get torn down often, I was thinking anaerobic sealant would work well and was hoping if someone could tell me otherwise?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / maximum compression ratio wirh iron heads
« on: November 18, 2010, 07:33:59 PM »
Is it possible to be able to run 11.3:1 compression on 91 octane? I would have a custom camshaft designed and motor will be setup at zero deck height.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / best bbf stroke length?
« on: October 04, 2010, 06:52:48 PM »
I was looking at overlap drawings of crankshafts and noticed the 4.5" crank I was wanting to run has a very small overlap and seems kind of weak looking to me. If someone could shed some light on what would be the best compromise between stroke length and crankshaft strength. I want as many c.I. like anyone else but I don't want a crank that I am afraid of breaking when I put nitrous on the motor. I plan on making around 700hp n/a then some nitrous once everything is sorted out.

Gelcoat / Paint / Fireberglass Repair / how much resin needed?
« on: September 30, 2010, 06:41:34 PM »
I've got everything else tallied up for my project. I'm getting ready to order my fiberglass supplies and I'm not sure how much resin to order. I will be putting in full stringers in a 18' southwind and filling in the area where my pump is set back. can anyone give me a general idea? 2 gallons 5 gallons?
Any insight appreciated as I'm ready to order as soon as I know what its going to take.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Tunnel ram fuel setup pics
« on: April 29, 2010, 03:52:32 PM »
Just finished plumbing up my tunnel ram and carbs. I used 660 center squirter holleys setup by fuel curve engineering. Aeromotive 4 port regulator -10 inlet and return outlets reduced to -6 then to the bowls. Still trying to decide what type of air cleaner setup and carb linkage to run, any ideas? I was thinking velocity stacks

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Starting from scratch what engine to use?
« on: February 14, 2010, 10:43:53 PM »
I like the idea of the lsx or the mod motor because of the weight savings, but i also am a ford man. But i want to keep things simple, and if i can save a few hundred pounds off the ass end of the boat i think it would be great! I already have a 460 ford, DOVE A heads, tunnel ram and carbs dist etc. just needs rebuilt. The boat is going to be down for quite a while so i can parts pick. Just noticed i said 3 engines, but i threw the bbc in there just for shits and now i cant edit the title, or i do not know how  O0
