Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Fuel Pump/Regulator ???
« on: October 12, 2014, 12:19:46 AM »
I bought a new electric fuel pump in july and just now got around to installing it. It was supposed to be carb. friendly and only be rated to about 9 psi.  I installed it today and it pegged my fuel pressure guage.  Question is if I get a fuel pressure regulator do I need the one with the return line or will the regulator without a return line be sufficient?

Suggestions / Support / 98 Silverado Z71 4x4 growl noise
« on: September 15, 2014, 10:34:12 PM »
I am running out of ideas, I have a 98 Z71 4x4 and driving in 2 wheel drive it makes a growl noise from the front end after about 40mph, put in 4 high and it goes away and stays away when going back to 2 wheel dr. when in 2 wheel it does not drive like its in 4 wheel so I know it is not stiking in 4 wheel dr. Is this a common problem with these? it has 115k on it. Other then that it runs good, shifts good, etc.  Any ideas will help.

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / Chevy Cavalier A/C inop.
« on: July 08, 2014, 08:11:57 PM »
My sons a/c quit working on his car. Turn it on and compressor clutch engages, coming fan comes on then after a min. Comp. Shuts off, then comes back on for a min. them shuts off again. I thought it might be low on freon but the gauge on the can says its really high pressure in the red so it ain't low on freon. I'm stumped now? Any ideas? Compressor turns freely by hand. Compressor ain't noisy when running.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Carb PSI
« on: June 30, 2014, 10:12:54 PM »
I have a problem with stalling after running for 30 to 60 seconds at about half throttle. Changed a few things and woke up in the middle of the night thinking its running out of fuel.  Idles all day long and after it dies give it a few seconds and it would start back up, idle, and then go again for about 30+ seconds then die. idle all the way back to the dock.  I changed the fuel filter and moved fuel pressure guage where I can turn around and see it.  Ran much better almost without dieing but any more than half throttle and fuel pressure goes to 0 and then starts to sputter then I let up on throttle and fuel pressure climbes to about 2 to 3 and will run all the time, floor it again and pressure goes to 0 and does it all over again. Im thinking fuel pump. at idle it pumps 6psi all day but cant keep up when cruising, is it normal for the fuel pressure to go all the way to 0? I don't think it should and thinking of replacing electric pump with a carter p4070. Anyone use that one before? Or should I do Holley Red? right now im running what it came with and that's a facet noisy electric and dont really want to do that one again.or if there are any other suggestions/brands that may be better

Cars / Automobiles For Sale / 98 Firebird overheats
« on: June 23, 2014, 10:43:17 PM »
HI! I just acquired a 98 firebird 3800 v-6 an you cant even go 2 miles without overheating and then a hiss noise from middle of intake.  It has a new water pump but you can see that if it were leaking, and t-stat. it has no water in the oil and it does not blow water out of the exhaust. Looking for opinions and maybe someone has had some experience with this. I don't think it head gaskets. I got it for less than 1000.00 and its red with t tops.  and guesses on what it might be??  This is a car and not a boat.

Jet Pumps / trouble installing place diverter
« on: March 15, 2014, 07:33:03 PM »
I am installing a place diverse on a JC Berk and I wrestled with it all day and still not complete. The pins that hold it to the bowl, the top one is too long but that ain't all. The holes for the place diverter were stripped, I tapped them and conquered that. Come to find out it was a hydraulic place D and the cable that was sent won't mount I'm the hole on the arm for the tilt. I know others have converted from hydraulic to manual. The cable is like a throttle cable  and don't have the big nuts like the reverse bucket cable. What do I do now?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Intake manifold questions???
« on: January 11, 2014, 09:12:10 PM »
I am wanting to replace factory Chevy Z-28 intake for BBC this winter and I can get a Edelbrock Victor Jr. 454-o from a friend but what I read about it it recommends 850cfm carb with I only have a 3150 holley which I believe is a 750. Will that be ok? I didn't want to buy a bigger carb too to do this or should I see about a different manifold and which is better single plane or dual?

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Dual or single plane intake???
« on: July 14, 2013, 10:20:11 PM »
I have a mildly built 454 BBC bored out 30 over and good cam and O/T Headers.  I am going to replace factory alum intake to a nice polished air gap one.  Should I go single plane or dual plane and why?  I know one is good for higher RPMS than the other but I am  only turning about 5000 rpms

« on: March 28, 2013, 08:54:31 PM »
I noticed I have rusty water in my pool light. Is this a shock hazard? Do you just take light out and unscrew old bulb and screw in new one? I noticed LED bulbs don't, they are rewired and does anyone know how to re wire if i go this route. I know wiring just wondering if there is anything special since this is underwater.

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Carb Problems
« on: February 17, 2013, 09:11:33 PM »
I have not had boat out since july, took to lake in Nov. and it would not start.  Rebuilt carb in dec. fuel in bowls had dried and left a yellow film on everything, sprayed out all passages and it fied up and ran in driveway for 1/2 hour, went to start today and same thing, no start.....no squirting in carb at top.....What do yall recomend for winterization? I use the fuel stabilizer stuff from wal mart in the marine isle thats blue (cant think of name right now) running a holley (3310 I think, cant remember now either)   I know its not spark or anything, its just from sitting..

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Gas gone bad
« on: October 08, 2012, 06:56:03 PM »
I took my boat to lake this weekend and never had trouble starting so I did not run at home before leaving.  Got to lake and it did not start or would sputter and die and not resart.  Gas smells like varnish and it has been in there since fathres day weekend.  Do I need to drain and fill with freash gas, or is there an additive that I can pour in to get it to burn and do I need to rebuild holley carb while im at it?
