Got a full battery, actually i tried 2 batteries, brand new fully charged. So it aint the batteries. I pulled all the plugs out, spun her by hand, no issues. Checked all connections to the starter. Everything seems fine. Only 2 wires, one to the starter from the battery and the other to the key ignition up front.

She'll click when i turn the key.....but nothing. Just click! Click! Click! From the stater.

Ran fine before i left the drain plug in on accident and she filled with water from all this rain the last few weeks.

Dried out just fine. I dont think its water related tho. And the motor aint locked up.

Anyone have any input?

Figured it out. Wrong oil filter. Went back to the old oil filter a wix 51258 vs the AC delco i got from summit.

See picture, the oil filter gasmet thing is on the inside, not the outside.

Blew out all the oil thru the filter...smh i probably lost more than a quart. I was changing it with Amsoil z rod, its like $14/quart.

Wow, see photos

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / 455 olds bad oil leak

So we did an oil change using an oil extractor thru the dipstick tube, done, all is good.

I couldn't figure out how to get the oil filter off, my brother had the idea to take off the oil feed to the filter. Or whatever it is you call that piece, took the 3 bolts off, took it out, cjnages the fikter and put it back.

When it was off i looked at the gasket and it was covered in grey silicone. Leads me to believe there was a leak there and maybe its a problem thats more than just replacing the gasket?

Anyways, we put it back started it up and lost atleast a quart of oil and the o ring on the oil filter popped off too. Maybe it was the o ring on the oil filter?  Or is it possible its leaking thru the fitting?

I did manage to mickey mouse pop the o ring on the oil filter back on. Dont know if the oil filter o ring is the culprit or the gasket?

Thanks for any advice

This is perfect,  i appreciate the time you took to repost those pictures. That's a great idea to mount them like that.  One on each side.

Thanks

Do you have a picture?  You have it in a battery box?

The only place i can see screwing into anything is fiberglass. Other than the wood in the back of the seat

Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Placing dual batteries up front
« on: March 01, 2023, 06:54:36 PM »
I got this new to me jetboat, i have no idea where the stock battery mounting location used to be. So the last owner just mickey mouse let the battery sot there against the exhaust manifold with a block of qood between the manifold and the battery.

I need dual batteries (one starter & one deep cycle for a stereo   im putting in.

The only logical place i can see me mounting 2 battery boxes is up front and screwing them to the plywood up front and running 2 guage battery cable to the starter, ground, etc.

Has anyone done this? Where do i mount these batteries?

Hi All, I just picked up my first jetboat.

1976 Waikiki 18ft with the 455 olds.

It has a 10Qt oil pan, Edelbrock manifold, new alternator and a 4 barrel Holley Carb.

I got her started, and she ran great, I didn't pay attention when i was revving it, and she revved to 5 grand with no load on accident, I let her idle, and all seemed okay.

Anyways, wanting to change the oil, the oil filter doesn't seem like it's in a place i can get to it, on the far right side twoards the bottom. I aint trying to pull the motor out for an oil filter.

I bought an oil extractor and i heard heavy weight oil i good for these motors. Any input?

Thanks
-Shawn

Can't launch the jet skis in needles cause were renting them from a jet ski spot in bullhead, i own the boat but would have to ride down river together

« on: March 25, 2016, 11:28:30 PM »
Hey anybody headed up to laughlin for memorial day? Me and 5 of my buddies rented a house on the river with an attached dock directly across from the laughlin strip on the bullhead side. I got an odd question, were heading up on the 26th-29th. My cousin who we used to go with in the past got rid of his boat, we usually launch from needles and hit up the sandbar/pirates cove area. Were looking to do the same this year but we don't have a boat. We've got some jet skis lined up but was wondering if anyone has some extra seats in their boat for us? Of course we'd pay for your time and gas and figured we could ride along Saturday if anyone has room available.
