There is a local socal guy with the molds to make new ones if you want to go that route?  I can get his number from my brother who had new ones made about 5 years ago.  Probably around $1000 now

Projects / 74 Kona ( JRS Fiberglass HIN ) bubble deck
« on: August 30, 2024, 02:05:49 PM »
Hey all,

Just picked up a 74 Kona bubble deck project to play with a little and sell.   Has a 455 in it that is "knocking".  Guy i bought the boat from had it listed as an eliminator, says it looks just like his eliminator, was looking over the registration and noticed JRSFBG (dont have it in front of me right now) as the manufacturer.

Anyways, got it for a good price i think, the plan is to fix the engine, maybe freshen up some upholstery (if the sale price allows) run it around a little and sell it.

Looks like a fun little boat, it is definitely smaller then our 69 Tahiti was.  I bet this boat will scoot.

Let me know your thoughts!

Also, the square port heads had terrible valve jobs on the intakes from the factory.  you will want to go to a 2.25 intake so that you can get 3 to 4 angles on the seat of you havent done so already.

something like 224/229*  and .545/.545"  lift on a 108 will still make peak power around 5500 but im not sure you will want to go smaller on duration then that.  maybe install it with a couple more degrees of advance .  should put you over 500HP at that rpm

you dont need that much compression at this cam & RPM level with Iron heads.  I would keep it under 10:1 unless you like mixing race gas

Hey all,

Curious on value of running 76 Hawaiian Mini day 460 ford berkeley Jet.  Currently needs motor work.  Thinking of flipping it after i rebuild the engine.  seeing if there is any money there.  ( really im just looking to pay my time to play with the engine lol. )

Just had a holley last year that had 1 power valve channel not drilled through all the way.  Had one half of the motor lean while the other half was good but that was on a dual plane intake not a tunnel ram.......

Took the old mantra out today the double water dumps kept oil temp down and no freeze plug popped out. Got the water dialed in with the rpm timer. Seems like we are done testing and ready to have fun.

What lake are you at?  Are you running an oil cooler?   Ive never had an oil temp sensor in my boats so im not sure what temps i get to

Look at that future jet boater in the making! haha

Wonder if the new pump work increased the water pressure going into the block.  Do you have a pressure gauge in the system?  Did the plug pop out cruising or more "spirited" driving?

Ya im not thinking the manifold is limiting anything.  I think the heads are limiting.   Boat is looking great!  bet it will be a blast with the AA impeller.   Is there a certain MPH you are shootin for?

Was the fuel pressure running out up top?  Is that why you said you thought you could get a little more out of it this week?  Did you get a chance to get more tuning done?

Makes me want to yank the 455 out of my 69 olds 442 and add another 100 hp to it hahaha

We really cant tell you without knowing the exhaust on the engine.   Seems pretty tame especially with the 114 lsa
