Glad u had a great time. Did u get ur carburetor issues sorted out?

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
Oh ya. Ended up changing fuel lines, Flushing fuel tanks, new filter with water seperator, and rebuilding carb with quick change secondary cap. I also have an upgraded secondary metering block with an assortment of jets but i haven't put that on yet.

Yes sir just keep a eye on the weather....i have been all over the San Francisco Bay in my light lay up 18 ft Mantra.....i always take a gallon of water to wipe the engine down and put it in fresh water and run it a little bit...which bay you headed too?
I took my son to Balboa peninsula and got reallll curious. It would be pretty cool to just cruise around and see whats up. But im open to suggestions

How did it go?

Time has not been on my side. I will be getting it out sometime this week after work now that i got all of these other things done. Lots of stuff going on but i killed most of it this weekend. Since i was welding I managed to make 2 pretty sweet removable flag poles. One for each corner of the rear. Unfortunately i didnt get to use them

Sounds like the hesitation is caused by the secondaries trying to open. I had a similar issue on my prop cruiser boat, it would stumble badly and not accelerate past a certain rpm if you were at full throttle. You could back off a little and it would eventually come up on plane. I added a little bit stiffer secondary spring so that they opened later and the problem went away completely.

I also messed around with the power valve. There are a few old posts with some good responses and suggestions for the vacuum Holley carbs on a jet boat. I was satisfied with the results I got from just a few changes after I rebuilt the carb.
Great info thanks

Awesome! keep at it, it will get sorted out.  Be careful at Perris, the speed limit is 35mph on the lake, dont know how seriously they patrol it though
I live about 10 minutes from the lake. Its been the only place ive taken the boat too since i bought it. But now.... we're river ready.

On the back of the boat, typically in the upper right hand corner, is there a HIN number?

Boat ran great. Has a slight hesitation around  around 4600 4700 rpm. Im hoping its a rev limiter that im not aware of or the secondaries but i feel confident that it will perform well on the river. Im still going to get an MSD unit for piece of mind although i didn't notice anything with the Ebay HEI. Thank you to everyone thats given me advice.  Definitely some fine tuning but it idled well and responded well so im happy. Clocked at 48 mph at 4700 rpm but i let off and cruised easily at 4500 rpm around 45mph.

Vacuum secondaries are mor fuel efficient. Mine work great. Keep us posted.

That vacuum port opens into this bathtub shaped cavity in the baseplate.  The round hole between my finger and the screw is the vacuum source for the power valve.  There are channels connecting the vacuum port and the power valve hole to both primary throttle bores.

It's possible that a blown power valve could leak there.  It could also be a cracked main body or metering block.  Hopefully it is as simple as a gasket failure.

That would be one explanation for why you achieved best idle with the adjusting screws all the way in (out richens the idle).

My guess is that fuel is leaking into that area, where it is remaining in liquid form, after the engine has stopped running.

After it sits for a while, is the primary float bowl empty?
Just going to buy a new carb. I rebuilt this one but im over it. 2 years of on snd off messin with it and i still havent seen the river with it. New carb coming but holley has the quick fuel line and the brawler im having trouble choosing .

Your boat but new gasket, power valve and base plate inspection cost almost nothing. With that said 750 Holley is a good call.

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
I just did the rebuild on the 3310 which is a 750 cfm but ive heard nothing good about the vacuum secondary on a boat. So to get on the water and finally use this thing. Im starting with a brand new holley 750cfm with mechanical secondary but holley has the quick fuel and the brawler on their website plus several factory reconditioned carbs at a decent price. Im also going with msd if i continue to have problems after the new carb.

So ive decided to just do it. Im getting a new carb. Shoot some ideas. I know 750cfm with mechanical secondary is ideal and im going with holley. But holley has quick fuel and brawler whats up with those?

No the brass screw above that. That looks live a vacuum rube your touching. Don’t think fuel should come from that

Sent from my iPhone using SoCal Jet Boats
And yes the vacuum port. When i took the rubber plug off a small amount of fuel came out
