Engine Mechanical / Electrical / Water Routing for Center Riser Exhaust
« on: September 06, 2020, 01:36:50 AM »
I finally found some exhaust manifolds that match up with the transom holes for repowering this boat from a 455 to a 460.

However, the riser water line requirements seem to be different than the standard logs with jugs.  I want to have the Berkley feed water into the manifold so it gets pre-heated before entering the engine, but there is no return line port like the typical jugs have.  Can somebody tell me how to route the cooling water so it can be pre-heated first?

Fabrication / Custom Swim Step
« on: July 17, 2020, 01:08:52 AM »
Where does everybody go to have a custom swim step made?

I checked out what Eddie Marine offers and it's nice, but I'd have to TIG 2 of their steps together to span my transom.. would rather just get something made right the first time.

Ceramic coated.
I don't have any other plumbing available for these, since I never mounted them in my boat:
$500 for the pair plus shipping.

I've got a set of Bassett BBF over transom headers available

Called Eddie Marine today to inquire about the center riser style manifold, which would definitely solve my problem.  Unfortunately they only make this for SBC and BBC......this is so frustrating!

14
Are you saying put the long bolt manifold snails on the regular manifolds?  This would gain me about 1/2" in height I think.

15
So I bought those Hardin Long Bolt manifolds and they are really nice, but unfortunately they make my problem worse because the runners slope downward.

Anybody have some other ideas?

Engines / Engine Parts For Sale / 455 parts

I'm in Seattle.... make offer

I have both risers, even though just 1 is pictured.  I do not have any other 455 parts left.

I've tried standard hardin logs and hardin long bolt logs, but the snail exit doesn't match up with my existing transom holes.  I guess I need some center riser exhaust manifolds from somebody like Edde marine?

I think these must be what I need?

Post up some pictures of your setup so we can help.

I've got an F460 with 12JE setup, Milodon 8" 10qt pan, 4 point mounting system and everything lines up nice (except my exhaust to transom ports).

I just took one of my snails off to replace the leaking gasket.  The log had some serious gouges in it (might have been from me wrestling the snail off).  You can fill the area with jb weld, slap a new gasket on it, and let it cure in a vise with the snail pointed toward the ground so jb weld doesn't run  too deep into the cooling passages.  I've got jb weld in the 4 cooling passages, but no thicker than .25" deep.

Did these sell?

I need a set just like that for my F460 project

23
I was hoping there were a few different types of Hardin Logs for an F460 so I could simply change the manifold or the snails.

I have a set of Bassett headers, but they also run into the transom

24
I would say that my logs are about 2" below the transom holes and about 9" apart on the port side.  I used some lithium grease and stuffed the port side hose on, but you can see the angles that are pulling away.  The other side the distance looks more like 5".  Are Hardin logs identical on both sides of the motor, or do they have a left and right side that will account for the exhaust port offset?

I tried MIGing up a little adapter pipe that could account for the 2" offset, but this is the easy side..... I don't see any way to pull this off on the hard side.

Lastly, does anybody have an upper Ujoint cover available for sale?

New to the forum, so go easy on me please.

Trying to revive a 1976 Caldwell 19ft boat with a Berkley 12JE.  The boat originally came with a 455 and 3 point mount.  I received the boat with nothing but the pump in it.

I sourced a late model f460 and installed with a 4 point mount and Hardin exhaust logs.  Now for the dilemma......

My transom exhaust ports are a few inches off from where the Hardin log exhaust ports sit when bolted to the F460.  I tried to flex the rubber exhaust hose, but it's too rigid for the short rise/run distance I'm trying to adapt.

I know many people have dumped the 455 and converted to 454 or 460, so what do they typically do about the pre-existing transom holes?
