Dang.  Had to tear it Down Again eh....
You can rebuild it.....stronger....faster.....better... ..

yup so the first time i tore down I replaced the phasers, VCT solenoids, etc... basically everything external the longblock.  either theres a blockage in the head or the cam is effed.  apparently they dont use cam bearings so once that happens the whole head is junk.  im running out of parts to replace short of the entire car driving off a cliff.

sadly no.  I've got my boat out in my driveway and my navigator is being torn apart in my garage.  New set of heads, cams, etc.  Been busy doing that.

you should have ball valves on your tanks regardless... if you get a leak you need a way to shut off the fuel.

there are "other" places with vdrive information.  but for the most part its a bunch of old crotchety dudes bitching and moaning about not having the right strut angles and talking about their stuffing boxes.  i do enjoy a good rigging thread though.  vdrives look like their parts are just more fun.

(my dads old boat, wish i could buy it back)

Random Boat Parts For Sale / kiekhaefer trim tabs
« on: January 24, 2015, 11:11:23 AM »
These are extremely rare all in one trim tabs.  The pump and sender is all in one small unit.  No giant trim tab pumps mounted in your boat with hoses running everywhere.  No giant 33c cables running around with more holes in your transom for trim tab indicators.  They're about 10x12 in size.  Have annodes on the tab and the mounting plate in good condition.  Wiring is very easy, I used a set of relays with 2 switches when they were in my bahner, but I dont think I'm going to use them in my warlock.  Trim sender works with a generic trim gauge for your stern drive.

the part inside the boat (dont have a pic afterwards when they were wired up...)

video of them working...

Asking $750 obo.  Feel free to ask me any questions you may have as you generally dont see a set like these.  I've only seen one other picture of them and it was from europe.  I'm located in huntington beach, ca... prefer NOT to ship them.

thanks.  still learning the whole wood thing.  most everything is dado'ed and rabbited... never had the ability to do that without the table saw.  still trying to learn all the tricks to make things strong and planning.  been watching a lot of youtube vids, new yankee workshop, etc.  havent got to the point where i cut everything and assemble, its kinda a measure and cut as i go thing and then realizing im missing a 1/16 somewhere.  haha.

Interior / Re: Needs to get seats ad wood done
« on: January 17, 2015, 10:47:59 PM »

i actually had my seats done at fibertech in huntington beach.  it was pricey, and they took quite a while to get done.  something about a bunch of car shows and previous projects, blah blah.

in the end here's my suggestion:

a1, martinez, etc do boat seats all day long.  they know all the little tricks as far as cupholders, storage pockets, etc.  regular upholstery shops might be cheaper, but you gotta give them *EXACTLY* what you want.  i gave them pictures of the seats that i wanted and they copied the design 100%, but none of the little things i had talked about were done, such as pockets in the backs of the seats. when i finally picked them up the guy was like "heres the pic, we copied that" so i guess i couldnt really get mad at them.

What would it cost to have my 2 buckets and bench seat done just like this? If i had the $ right now id buy these.!

sky is the limit.

while it might not LOOK like huge progress, its huge progress...

before...

after:

ive got MOST everything back down to GOOD glass.  just gotta strip down the burned gelcoat, give the drivers side a good sanding, and then its time to start building things back up, and do re-gel.  not sure if i should just tape off the whole top area and redo it in like a grey or a color or try to match the white.  i could REALLY use some tips to redo it in white and to feather the edges and blend it all back together.  ive heard that gel matches color when wet and dry so im thinking of wet sanding the sides and polishing it so that its all clean and matching.  im probably going to use whatever i can find at west marine, since i seem to have good results with their products... although expensive.

dumb question but wouldnt it be easier, cheaper, faster to just sand down to original gel while not trying to preserve it and lay down matching graphics?  it seems like a week has gone by and its still in the sanding phase.  it couldve been ripped down to original gel or even original glass in a day.  or is it the whole preserving the original and restoring it what you're after?  i see some spots where the sanding has gone too far and those areas will need to be retouched.  just curious.

Used the first one on my southwind... very good results

yeh if you have a decent amount of oxidation at all, regular paint waxes/cleaners/compound just aint gonna cut it.  sure once you have a mirror finish then you can apply that stuff but if you need to cut, you gotta use gelcoat friendly materials.

Hulls / Re: FIBERGLASS TANK REMOVAL
« on: January 05, 2015, 10:35:12 AM »
oscilating saw like the one pictured above, cut the tabbing.  wheels and things that spin make dust.  vibrating saws dont.  once the tabbing is cut, the fuel fill removed, the sender wire and ground for the tank level sender, and the fuel hose the tank should be able to be pulled out.  but dont throw it away just yet.  take it down to  IMCO and have a set of replacements made that match the dimensions of the ones removed.  install them into the same location using the same tabbing method.  that way the fuel fill locations, sender, etc are all in the same exact place.

i had tweed and i would advise against it.  dirt gets stuck in it while trailering that otherwise would just be wiped off with vinyl.  also if you have snug seats the tweed rubs the crap out of your skin until its raw.  you'll always have em covered up with towels.

The No Wake Zone / Re: Steering Cable Numbers
« on: December 28, 2014, 11:31:00 PM »
all you should be worried about is the numbers right before "FT"  i think it says 15.  maybe 16.  thats the length of the cable.  then go buy a teleflex rack and pinion kit with helm for the same length.
